a story of one of hitlers children from education for death

Post by wizzer »

:o i just got done watching this and i am really surprised. it's kind of strange because i think they were trying to really make fun of nazi germans but it almost comes off seeming like it's cool to be a mindless nazi. anyway, does anyone who has seen this have any feelings about this clip? i downloaded mine from bearshare, but maybe it was avaliable somehow in other countries. it kind of seems like it was made to scare children into supporting the american cause but maybe it even backfired when it first came out but i wouldn't know.

"marching and heiling, heiling and marching- does nothing but what the party wants him to do"

I thought the idea of the short was to
1) ridicule Germany. Hence the skinny Hitler trying to push the fat woman (Germany) onto a horse;

2) Scare people into NOT supporting Nazism. I believe thw clip shows the child having mindless rhetoric drummed into him until there is no other option. There is one answer - the Nazi answer for children of Germany. That was meant to scare US citizens into thinking that Nazism could spread, and ultimately destroy the American way of life. It was also shown as being the opposite to the "American ideal way", of truth, justice and all that..

It was propaganda to give the US a reason to hate the Germans during war time. At that time, the US was reluctant to enter the war in Europe. Japan bombing Pearl Harbour was one thing, but European wars had nothing to do with the US (and still don't, I should add).

Anyways, that was my reading...

I have seen this short thanks to the inte Internet. I was shocked... this film is a very powerful propaganda, and it is even frightening. You would never imagine that the Mickey's studio would atempt to create something like that.

i'm getting my fill of propaganda related disney and you can add spirit of 43 to the 'weird' list. "taxes to sink the axis" i'd say donald duck was a very good tool for propoganda of the time as i see donald as the blue collar type. trippy stuff.

Yes they are strange, but oh so powerful for that time.
We will see more of this on the Treasure Set in May.

i'd like to know exactly what portions of these cartoons will be included. i don't see how they would release any of these (i also just saw der furers face where donald is a nazi the whole time until ....oh he's dreaming). although the cartoons are clearly propoganda i think the constant swastika bushes, wallpaper, clocks and so on are really suggestive, not to mention the number of times they say zieg hiel. with all the politicaly correct editing disney does on films where say, goofy is smoking, how are they going to show a donald character looking like hitler wearing a swastika on his arm? or donald himself marching in a nazi band with a swastika on his arm? these images could be completely taken out of context and used in a negitive way and i dont think disney would risk something like that. but i may be wrong. does anyone have a link confirming that these cartoons will be released on the upcoming treasures?

No link, I´m sorry - but they will indeed be released on this Treasure set in May.
Now you maybe understand why so many are anxious and worried about the delay in December - should they cut them out or not.
Maltin promised that this was not the reason for the delay, so if it´s true we will have them on DVD soon!
And the mostly of this material, is stuff that Disney never have released to the home market before...

Is "Education for Death" included on the Treasure set itself? I'm sure it will be very heavy-handed in it's propaganda content, but everything from that era is. It is difficult for us to understand, even now in our post 9/11 world, what it was like to live through World War II. They didn't have 3 or 4 24 hour news channels available at your fingertips to look at.
