The Little Mermaid on Broadway

They're not going to use wires to suspend people. The director has already stated that there will be no wires, and as part of the audition process, actors had to be competent with heelies.

Those annoying shoes that have wheels in the heels that are retractable...go to any toy store, and you'll see a bunch of kids zooming around the store on them, to the dismay of the employees.

Oh dear - I was hoping one of the wealthiest and most successful companies in the world was going to come up with something a little more magical than roller skates. Oh well... Maybe it'll just be for parts of the show. It'll be pretty hard for performers to sing on roller skates.
Besides, the director said they must be competent with heelies, so they aren't looking for trained inline skaters like they would if skating was a major part of the show.

So it's gonna be like "Ariel meets Starlight Express"!!!
That sucks, I wih they woud come up with something more innovative. I would have loved to make it like the Ariel show in WDW that has the blacklight and stuff. That would have looked great, and under the sea like.

I really don't see why thye characters just can't walk like the regular Broadway shows. Roller-skates are impracticial, but I also think that wires would be youself in "rising to surfaces" scenes. I have to admit that even though I'm excited about Mermaid on Broadway, Disney sure has their work cut out for them.

The Little Mermaid updates!!!

Mermaid now on the Disney Site

"The Little Mermaid" has been added to the line up of Musicals by Disney - including the controversial blue poster. It seems that the poster will infact be the one that Disney uses to market the new show and is not a 'first draft' or a 'work in progress' as some have speculated.

I didn't say it was controversal. The website I got it from said that. The web owner went to say (this is regards to the controversal coment):

"Alot of people (on other broadway message boards) feel that the poster doesn't live up to the previous Disney Broadway Posters such as the stunning Lion King 'stamp' design and the simple yet elegant Beauty and the Beast Design. From reading other comments on broadway message boards, that most assumed that this poster was only to be used in Denver, and that another poster would be produced for the Broadway show."

i"m the only one who think that the poster is a litttle creepy? it's a pretty poster but the water dosn't look like water at all.

While it's nice to have all the mermaid-theatrical information in one place, that owner of that blog likes to exaggerate. She's using "controversial" simply to mean "some fans assumed it wasn't final, but it apparently is, and now they don't like it" as opposed to, say, an ACTUAL controversy over its use. The owner's also posted "costume artwork" without any further text, but its only when you read the comments that she later on says that she simply drew it as a FAN, not as someone actually involved. So yeah: sketchy.

I agree. It's got a very caribbean/miami beach art deco look to it. I'd still be open to another poster, but I certainly don't think this one is bad. I'm just surprised they didn't use WATERcolor.
