POTC Dead Man's Chest Missing Scene??

Post by lizbaby007 »

Hi all! Finally got around to opening the 2-Disc DVD set (I know, I am way behind)and now think I have completely gone crazy!! I swear when I watched this movie in the theatre, there was a scene at the beginning of the movie of Will and Elizabeth getting married on the beach and they get arrested?? My dvd jumps from Capt Jack giving directions on which way to sail to Will being brought in to see Cutler in Handcuffs. Did I dream the scene up? Was it cut from the movie? Is my DVD defective?

THANKS :)

If this has been answered before, I apologize. I did a search but couldn't find that it had been discussed....

They never got married, as Will was arrested before the ceremony started (hence nobody in the congregation except Liz).

Yeah, I know they didn't actually get married :) For some reason I just thought that they were on a beach together and were going to get married but got arrested and then Will was taken to see Cutler. I have no idea where I got that from. My bad. It just seemed out of sequence to go from Capt Jack and then the first time we see Will he is being led in to see Cutler handcuffed. Thanks for the response!

While I am certain the shot was never in the film, I'm pretty sure I've seen what you are talking about. Does anybody know if it was possibly used in one of the trailors or if a production photo showed an image of what appears to be a wedding?

It's probably just another case of remembering something that never existed, the mind plays tricks!

For example, I seem to remember Michael Jackson being black! ;)

However the film probably would have benefitted with about 20 minutes worth of missing scenes! :p

YEAH!!! IM NOT CRAZY!!!

So, I took my DVD set back to Best Buy today and told them the story. They let me exchange it for a new 2-Disc set. I brought it home, popped it into the DVD player and whalah- the missing scene! Turns out my original set was majorly defective and was skipping over the entire first 5 Minutes of the movie including the opening credits (I wondered where those were), yikes!!

Although my memory wasn't entirely correct (Elizabeth wasn't on the beach, she was on the cliffs overlooking the water in her wedding gown) there was a scene actually showing Will physically being arrested at his wedding and introducing the East India Trading Company to the audience. Man would I be ticked if I had never seen the movie and that was my first time viewing it. It made no sense why Elizabeth was in jail and Will was in handcuffs without that first 5 min sequence :)

Im glad to have the entire movie now and am about to go sit back and watch it!

And the mere fact that it was recommended/nominated taints it now*, so I have to sue you for damages and loss of probable entry.

*the Loomis/Kelvin WIST is the only exception to tainting as I had planned on WIST'ing it, and Kelvin came in and said, "I nominate..." before I could change my sig.

Wait, I'm confused.

I never saw the movie in the theater. My DVD starts with Elizabeth alone in the rain in her wedding dress on the cliff. There is five minutes of material before this?

Is this documented officially anywhere? I have had my DVD since it was released. Is it still exchangible?

No, you're fine. It's supposed to start there.
Liz is sitting in the rain to some sad, rainy music as Beckett comes up with his men with Will in their custody.
:pan: Love It.

No! That is the entire sequence my Original DVD set was missing!! It literally started without any opening credits and showed Capt Jack climbing aboard his ship. My new set that I exchanged for has the opening scene with Elizabeth in the rain in her wedding dress etc.... Sorry for any confusion :)

Basically I had a craptastic copy that cheated me out of like the first 5 minutes and left me scratching my head that I returned to Best Buy who graciously let me exchange it for a new set that once popped into the DVD player had the opening sequence that I semi-remembered from the theatre that is on Everyone else's copy and now my movie is not only complete, but makes sense as well!!

Haha lizbaby007, I thought you might be talking about that scene (with Elizabeth alone in the rain in her wedding dress) when you were talking about the "wedding" but since everybody was saying that scene didn't exist, I didn't want to pass for an idiot. Serves me right! ;) I am glad you got a new, complete DVD!
