A Bugs Life CE vs. A Bug's Life SE

Post by Prince Phillip »

What is the difference between the Collector's Edition of A Bug's Life and the Special Edition rerelease? Is either one better? I know the rerelease has some promotional stuff for Nemo that the first one doesn't but is that it? Does it have all the stuff the first one did, or perhaps more, that's revalent to the movie? Thanks :)

First off, the reissue is also called Collector's Edition, not Special Edition. It's essentially the same disc so they kept the same title.

Two, it is a REISSUE of the previous set, not really a re-release in the sense that it's been upgraded. It's got everything from the previous release plus a Nemo Fishy Fact about Bruce (which can also be found on the Nemo DVD) and a couple kiddie games. And it has new cover and disc art and the insert isn't as extravigant as before. I see you've got the original CE from your 'Should I go for the mother load?' thread -- don't worry about the upgrade. The games are, well, you know what to expect with Disney DVD set-top game features, and the Fishy Fact is on Nemo if you want it that bad.

Jake's totally right. If you have the old one, which you will from 'the mother load', then there's no real reason to 'upgrade.' If you have the new Collector's Edition released this year, there's no reason to track down the out-of-print, more expensive set. Cover, packaging, the Fishy Facts, and availability are really the only differences.

I recommend upgrading (don't listen to Jake & Luke's poison).

The Fishy Fact is awesome - it'll blow your mind only on this DVD, not on the Finding Nemo DVD for some reason. The games are better than anything on X-Box or PS2 - you help Heimlich eat a Watermelon and play hide-and-seek with Francis by answering mind-meltingly easy questions. Plus the packaging will make your eyes pop out its so cool and kiddie.

Seriously, the 2 previous post summed it up perfectly. Heck I own the reissue, and I wish I had the original!

i own both the CE and the SE they're both the same. Unless you have cash to blow for the new cover and the stupid game (I bought thinking the fishy facts we're going to be something worth it........it's only a tv spot! oh well) Don't upgrade if you have the CE!

i would go with the one that just came out recently in 2003 since both of them are equal and it is easier to find the new one than the old one.

So do I, if only for the cover, but this cover does have a neato shiny effect. And the Fishy Fact was another teeny-tiny tantalizing glimpse at the then-upcoming Nemo, so I suppose I'm alright with the one I've got. And as much as I'd like the old one I'm not sure I'd upgrade to it either, unless it was dirt cheap.

I own the original "Collectors Edition" and it was the first DVD I ever owned. I am upset about the new version because I feel like my copy isn't as "collectable" as Disney acted. They better not re-release any more "Collectors Editions" like they did with this. That would be bogus for us collectors who make the effort to buy it when it's available.
