Post Count: Goodbye!!!

Post by Escapay »

Yes! Post Count is Gone!!!

Escapay

Of course, the only way to see someone's post count now is to click on their name or their profile link, but people hardly ever do that, so yay, no more post count!

Yay, I guess? I don’t think it’ll make much of a difference, I know I didn’t really care about them or even notice them really.

Post Count Go, Gender Come?

Post by Disney Duster »

*hopeful* Does this mean we can replace post count with Gender under our avatars? And people will no longer think that just because a female is in my avatar, I'm one too...?

Post count never really mattered to me, it was just something fun to notice once and a while. A new gender icon would be a good idea DisneyDuster!

I know! I was thinking the same thing, too!

But like Escapay stated, just go to your profile and you can check it.

Now join date will become the factor of seniority.

But overall this is great. I am tired of all the fluffy posts to raise post count, and I hope this cuts it down. :)

If it wasn't for this thread, I probably would not have noticed for several weeks that the post count was gone. I think getting rid of the post count is a great idea, maybe it will cut down on some of the fluff posts.

Perhaps by the quality of your posts, which isn't easy to assign a number to. Some ways you might calculate this is by the percentage of your posts that are either replied to or acknowledged, with bonus points being assigned to posts which actually further discussion and lend unique insight onto a topic being discussed.

While this is not a permanent goodbye to post counts (and as has been pointed out, it is not even a complete goodbye), if it does anything to discourage inane posting and increase the substance of posts, then I don't think there's any reason to bring the number back.

Now I agree there's room for something else to go there, but I'm going to think about the matter before deciding what (if anything). I know there's the possibility to do a gender image or a home country flag. Are these things essential to know? No, so ideally, things like these would appear only on a voluntary basis. We'll see. I think multiple-selection polls are more of a priority right now.

Well, I just decided to read a thread and noticed right off!

While I rarely ever disagree with Escapay(unless if it's another unending battle of WDFA's biggest hit and Pixar's biggest hit  ) I have to be in the minority and say I miss it!

It just doesn't look right to not have it as it leaves quite a big space. In the end, I guess it's for the best to stop a percentage of fluffy posts, I always liked to see how many posts a member had. :P

Oh well, I'll get over it, as we always have the good ol' "memberlist". It'll be interesting to see what will replace it.

LOL, I didn't even notice. I thought this was a wishful thinking thread. Ah well, as long as the titles stay, I'm a happy camper. :D

I really didn't notice they were missing until I read this thread. After I reached 50 and obtained my avatar, I guess I didn't pay a whole lot of attention. I can live with them or without them.

YES! THIS IS AWESOME!!! :D :D :D Thank you SOOOOO much Luke! Over-posters really got on my nerves, especially when their posts consisted of nothing. I think some members were even getting competitive over it

Hopefully this will put an end to posters, double posting, posting one word answers and wasting space just to up the number under their avatar! Which as you've seen I've made my feelings clear on on many occasions. ;)

The new change is fine by me!

Posts are now being measured by bananas, courtesy of the Escapay Banana Bank. Forum members with at least 10,000 bananas get an avatar, and forum members with more than 1,000,000 bananas get a Platinum Loss of Quality (PLOQ) Card, which allows the poster to do one-word or one-line posts, and only costing fifty bananas at the start of the month. This not only allows for greater freedom in posting, but reflects the loss of quality in Platinum DVD releases, prompting more discussion about the subject.

Values are as follows:

Any Posts asking about or praising Slipcovers: Worth negative one hundred bananas.

Any Posts against Slipcovers: Worth negative one hundred bananas. (Which means people will never talk about slipcovers, lest they want to lose a hundred bananas!)

One-Word/One-Emoticon/One-Line Posts: Worth negative one banana. You lose money for every one-word (or one-emoticon) post. (or a fee of fifty bananas a month with the PLOQ card)

Posts in Polls & Games: Worth nothing. (not covered with PLOQ or any other banana currency.)

One-Line Posts that spark discussion or is replied to specifically: Worth a banana skin, and ten banana skins equal one banana.

List Posts that Merely have a list: Worth a banana skin, and ten banana skins equal one banana.

One-Paragraph Posts (3-5 sentences): Worth a banana.

Non-paragraph-specific-but-still-several-lines-long Posts: Worth ten bananas.

Three-to-Five Paragraph Posts: Worth fifteen bananas.

Long-ass Essay Posts (more than five paragraphs): Worth thirty five bananas.

One-Paragraph/3-5 Paragraph/Long-ass Essay Thread-Starting Post That Leads to at least three pages of one-paragraph or more posts: Worth seventy bananas.

Platinum Loss of Quality (PLOQ) Card: Forum members with at least 1,000,00 bananas receive a PLOQ card, that allows them as many fluff posts as they want, but must pay fifty bananas a month for the privilege. If a forum member goes below 1,000,000 bananas, they must forfeit their PLOQ card.

As of now, all Forum Users have a clean slate, with no bananas in their bank account, so now, once you finish making a post, decide which category it falls in to, and update your bank accordingly.

Escapay's Bank Account: +15 bananas

:P ;)

Well, it doesn't have to be an image. I would just prefer "Gender: Male" or "Gender: Female" in text. Having an image would use more bandwith, but just having text would not use as much, right?
