Ok I see that now... sorry my bad... I just re-read it and the R3 whcih is from asia is ok. Here is a quote from someone who posted about the R3 I think the region 2 version in the UK is currently unknown as to if it has this goof up as well.yamiiguy wrote:the Region 2 isn't released yet they were commenting on the Christopher Reeve Collection which is different from the Superman Ultimate Collectiondisneyboy20022 wrote: Well.. while it does not say that in the initial article... Some people from the UK replyed saying that their Region 2 version did not have this goof up. Nor did the Region 3 which I think is Australia but correct me if I am wrong. Evidiently Warner Brothers is going to offer free disc replacements for both Superman 3 - incorrect edition and Superman 1 - some problem with the audio/special effects.
Okay its official - Warner is offering disc replacement for Discs 1 and 8. They are currently setting up a 1-800 number for the problem. They are not recalling any sets, just replacing discs.

So, will we have to send back the discs or will we just need to call the number to get them?Mr. Toad wrote:Evidiently Warner Brothers is going to offer free disc replacements for both Superman 3 - incorrect edition and Superman 1 - some problem with the audio/special effects.

Finally, Disc Thirteen is arguably the crown jewel of this box set. It includes all-new bonus martial, including the excellent new You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman documentary. It's feature-length, full frame (acceptable given that so much of the archive footage that appears here is in full frame) and it offers new interviews with just about everyone involved in the making of these films (with the exception of Richard Lester, though he does appear in archive footage and photos), as well as lots of rare footage, outtakes and more. It's another great piece, and you'll find particularly interesting the section in which the Donner/Superman II controversy is addressed head-on. This disc also includes a pair of additional featurettes - one on the mythology of Superman and one profiling actor Christopher Reeve - as well as the aforementioned Snafuperman short, the Super-Rabbit and Stupor Duck Looney Tunes shorts and the never-before-seen 1958 The Adventures of Super Pup TV pilot in its entirety. The set is topped off with a booklet that lists all of the features, a mini reproduction of DC's Superman #7 (originally published in 1987), a mail-in offer for reproductions of all five theatrical film one-sheets, a holographic slipcase cover and a spiffy metallic-embossed tin to hold it all.

Hey, was hoping someone could answer my question... Where does Superman Returns fall in with the other Supes movies? does it come in after a certain one or is it completely off on its own?
I've really only seen parts of Superman I and II. Havent seen anything of III or IV, which I've been told is a good thing.

No information Bill Hunt(Digital Bits) was hoping to have all of the info tonight, but given it is 11 in the east where he is we will have to wait until morning for details.Escapay wrote:So, will we have to send back the discs or will we just need to call the number to get them?Mr. Toad wrote:Evidiently Warner Brothers is going to offer free disc replacements for both Superman 3 - incorrect edition and Superman 1 - some problem with the audio/special effects.

Has anyone else this in there set? On the set there is a pic of the disc art of all the discs. In this pic "Look, Up In The Sky!" has disc art matching the rest of other 13 discs and had a comic like Superman, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain & Brandon Routh. The disc art I got with my set has the 'films' font like on the dvd cover and has the pic of the 90's cartoon Superman flying & Brandon Routh doing the same. Is this just me?

I called the 800 number provided. The representative said that, right now, they are just taking names and telephone numbers. He said that this is all very sudden, and Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed the details of how they will offer the replacements. He did say that they should have the answer in 24 to 48 hours, and would be calling people and giving them the information on the exchange.

Looks like they are fixing this problem fairly well and a new set will be out in December.
Someone on DVDTalk said that their Barnes and Noble order want ship until Dec 28th. When they called the CSR told them that they were contacted and told that there was a mistake with the Ultimate Box Set. A new set would be released on the 28th with the corrected discs.
If this is true then I'm glad its getting corrected so quickly. Also the exchange program is already setup for people who have the messed up discs.

Well I am impressed
I just got off the phone and they took my name and address and they will be sending a Pre-Paid Package to me within 7-10 days to send the 2 discs in. I asked them if I needed to put the 2 discs in the case so they dont get scratched and the guy said it didn't matter because the 2 discs I send back to them are going to get DESTROYED anyway. So then they will mail the new discs once I send them out. They also asked for the proof of purchase code on the back of the cardboard SO DON'T THROW AWAY THE CARDBOARD WITH THE PROOF OF PURCHASE ON IT. They also asked where I purchased it from.
So I am glad to see they are not going to re-use and re-sell the wrong discs in a differ package.

Oddly, this Amazon reviewer had a slightly different experience:
Although this is a great collection, Warner did mess it up and didn't warn in advance (they had to have known). Basically, the Superman III disk does not have any of the promised special features, as noted by some reviewers. In addition, disk one of the four disk Superman I part does not contain the 1978 Dolby 2.0 version, as promised. If you bought the standalone four disk Superman I set or standalone Superman III that also came out on the 28th, this problem doesn't exist; only with the Ultimate or Christopher Reeve collections.
Warner promises to fix it through an exchange, but it's not particularly "elegant". First, you must call 800-553-6937. After waiting your turn to get through, they ask for your information, including where you bought it. Then they will ask you for the "catalog code", which is near the UPC bar code. This is reasonable, in order to prove you really bought it. Then it gets interesting. In one or two weeks you are suuposed to get, not the replacement disks, but some prepaid envelopes from Warner. You take the two "problem disks" and mail them back to Warner. When your disks arrive back there, they go into the queue for processing. Once they've verified they have your disks, and once they've remastered sufficient disks, they're supposed to mail the replacement disks you need. They acknowledge that during this period you will not have any form of those two disks. This also renders the set unreturnable to where you bought it, by the way. When asked what happens if the disks you send back or the disks they send you get lost in the mail (a lot of stuff gets lost around big volume mail periods like Christmas), since you won't have any proof, they don't yet have a plan.
They acknowledged they're going to correct the problem in production and sets manufactured later will deliver what's advertised. Keep this and the exchange process in mind when making the decision when to buy. Note that Amazon, which was advertising availability of this set on the original Nov. 28 release date, is now moving the availability date furhter back (it went from Dec 06 to 07 this morning). This may be a reaction to information they're getting from Warner as to when the corrected sets will be avialable.
Even more odd, my shipment from Amazon for this set, originally due at my doorstep on December 7, showed up today. At first I was excited, then I got pissed. While I already know about the problems with Discs 1 and 8, I could hear a little rattling, and for the first time ever, I got a loose disc from Amazon. Turns out Disc 14 wasn't put in properly, so it was rolling all over, and there's noticeable scratches on it. Immediately I put it in my player to see if it'd be affected, and it looks like the disc still does play. I tried wiping/cleaning the disc with some DVD cleaning stuff, but the scratches are still there, dammit.
So now when I call for Discs 1 and 8, I need to ask what they can do about my Disc 14. It's not an Amazon problem because Warner packaged it and the disc was loose because of them, not because of Amazon, so Warner should replace it as well as my Discs 1 and 8.

How are the transfers for the Reeve films?
The only one I've heard about is Superman: The Movie. The review said that the Extended version didn't look as good as the Theatrical, and that the old 2001 Extended looked better than the 2006 Extended. The screenshots provided in the review backed it up as well. The 2006 Extended had noticable "dirt" on the print where the 2001 didn't.
Sorry to hear about the loose disc. I HATE when that happens. Hopefully you will be able to get it replaced.
Also did anyone pickup the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD releases? Just wondering how they looked...

I just got off the phone with a rep from the toll-free #. They took my information, which included name, address, telephone #, catalog #, and place of purchase. They state that I will receive the postage paid envelope in 7-10 days. After mailing it back, they said I should receive the corrected discs in 2-3 weeks. Hopefully that's all it will take. Other than the issue with those two discs, I'm pretty pleased with this set. I haven't got to watch much. I will say that the transfer for Superman Returns could have been MUCH better. It should have been, considering that it was filmed using a digital film. It looks grainy in areas, the black levels aren't as good as they should be, and some dark areas have a "pixel" like appearance. I don't know why the transfer on this wasn't top notch?!
Anyway, all in all, I'm pleased. I can't wait to really dive into the whole thing, which is going to take quite some time! Luckily, I don't have to work, tomorrow, so I should get into it pretty well.
I also mailed off for the 5 free posters, yesterday. I can't wait to get those!
