This is upsetting to me. I much enjoy Menken's works over Newman's. Let me ask you this: Do you want people in general to think that Newman is at Disney? He definitly isn't at Disney. The general public, when heard "Randy Newman" will think of PIXAR. When the general public hears "Alan Menken" they automatically think Disney. I'm disappointed in Mr. Lasseter's decision.

You know I was initially disappointed with the decision that Menken had been replaced with Newman, but that was when I was under the impression that The Frog Princess would be a traditional fairy tale. Now that there are rumours that The Frog Princess will have a jazz score, I can't help but wonder if maybe the right decision in replacing him has been made after all! But that's just a maybe!

I agree with many.
Alan Menken has made excellent scores for BATB, Aladdin, TLM, and all others. His music is excellent in every way. Certainly you can find some flaws in some cases, but he gave Disney the lift they needed. Hunchback had an excellent score and Pocahontas blew me away. He has redefined the term: "DISNEY MUSICAL". When you think of a Disney Musical you think of the best music, you think of characters singing the music and not background music, you think of a music style that will be different from their past successes. Alan Menken brought us A WHOLE NEW WORLD of Disney Music. There was SOMETHING THERE in his music that made us all want to hear the same songs again and again. (Although we should never forget of the lion king, fabulous). He brought Disney from ZERO TO HERO.
Randy Newman on the other makes us feel: what happened to the musical! I knew this would become a Pixar 2! Now I would love to hear the characters sing, but I bet that it will be background music and we will hear a Randy Newman song and you may not be repeating the artist for Disney but you are for Pixar. Some people may consider this a Disney/Pixar film. This is supposed to set a difference for Disney from all other animation companies around the world but all Randy Newman will do is directly link Pixar to Disney, who knows maybe later we'll have to only pop in at the credits of the movies just to see the funnier parts, when back when Pixar did not exist I think it was better for Disney. Isn't it odd that once Toy Story came out in 1995 and in the same year Disney released Pocahonatas and what happens Disney has some huge flops.
I just think Pixar should sometimes leave them alone. In the parks all you find are Mickey, Winnie, and Stitch but also so much PIXAR.
These are some STRANGE THINGS.

Clearly Menken would have been the best choice. You can't deny his amazing work. Hunchback and Pocahontas are probably two of the best scores written for any film, Disney or otherwise. The problem with Newman, much like Phil Collins, is that they want to be the ones singing and I for one, can't stand their whiny, grading voices. They personally drive me nuts. I remember being about 12 when Toy Story came out and "You've got a friend in me" was so annoying to me and still is. I'm really not all that excited about this anyway, because despite being 2d (which is great), it still sounds like some cheesy comedy, lacking the depth and emotion of the 90's films, but at least it could have had a nice soundtrack.

Can we please stop bashing Lasseter? Yes he comes from Pixar and yes Pixar movies are different from Disney movie, but we have NEVER seen him in controll at the Warlt Disney Animation studios. SO before his first work comes out, lets not jump to conclusions! Lets not forget that the Disney studios can make some mistakes aswell like what was first planned to be Rapunzel... Lasseter came in redone most of the project! And without him 2D was not even going to come back on screen!!! So stop the bashing! All you are basing Randy's style on is his songs from Pixar, if you go and listen to the soundtrack of Seabiscuit you might realise he could apply him selve to a Disney movie! They said he was going to write the music, no evidence of him singing anywhere yet. So stay calm, wait what the product will be and then bash him or praise him.
Alan did make some very nice Disney scored but he also made huge flops. like the songs for Home on the range.
