I'm not entirely sure how this should be understood, but grain is definitely not a sign of deterioration...

If you don't like buying DVDs on eBay, consider buying from Half.com, which is a part of eBay.

I've purchased enough on the site. I haven't had any problems -- though the tin of the used Treasures MM in Living Color 1 I bought had rust on it!

No particular "edition" - "OOP" simply means that it's "out of print" - no longer available.

OK, before I start, Escapay, don't yell at me for this, if it has already been discussed.

But I have a question about the two Dumbo releases. Which one should I get? I really want the Big Top Edition because it is easier to find, but according to some people it has not-so-great picture quality.

I also want the 60th Anniversary Edition (I know where I can find it -- GameStop!), because I heard its picture quality is better than the newer edition, and it even has a sneak peek at the scrapped Dumbo II.

So, which one do you think I should get?

The Big Top edition has the better picture quality generally compared to the previous release imo despite a few big flaws.

Well, I actually started a topic about this, and NO i'm not yelling at you.

I believe I titled it, "Dumbo-Which Version??" in case you're interested in reading what others recommended to me.

But, to summarize, it seems a mixed bag. The "Big Top Edition" actually does have a slightly better picture quality, that is, until you come to the "Pink Elephant's on Parade" scene. Supposedly, that scene is undoubtedly darker on the new disk.

And, in case you gotta know about bonus features, the Big Top Edition does take off some bonus features (most noticably, the Original Theatrical Trailer, in case you're a trailer buff like I am.

). The only thing that the BTE gained as far as bonus features was a "DisneyPedia" on the animals seen in the film.

But here's what you're looking at: an easier to find, better picture quality (sort-of) Big Top Ed. versus A some-what hard to find, better pic. quality in "Pink Elephant" scene (only), and more bonus feature 60th Anniversary Ed.

I think the best thing to do is read the reviews, and see which release has the things that you would enjoy more. If you want the better picture quality and are a slipcover fanatic, go with the BTE. If you love trailers or a few more bonus features in general, or love the "Pink Elephant's on Parade" scene, go with the 60th Anniversary Edition. It's really up to you.

Personally, I went with the 60th Anniversary Edition. My favorite scene in the ENTIRE movie is "Pink Elephant's on Parade", and I figured I could "suffer" through slightly worse picture quality just to enjoy the disk with better picture quality for my favorite scene. I am also a HUGE trailer buff. So, I was really let down when I found out that the new release wouldn't have the original trailer. But, overall, I am happy with the 60th Anniv. Edition. And, I was easily able to find it used at a close-by Gamestop for $12.99, and I had it transfered.

But, I know that normally it can be pretty hard to find. So, once again, it's up to you. But I really do recommend reading the UD Reviews as well as the topic I started about Dumbo when I was contimplating which version to buy.

4. My opinion, as I said in brotherbear's thread, is this:

I'd go for the 60th Anniversary Edition. Less obnoxious cover art, NO slipcover to worry about, has the wonderful trailers, and while the transfer isn't as...well, it's the lesser of the two. The added features to the BTE could be interesting to some (I wouldn't mind seeing the Jim Brickman/Kassie de Paiva music video), but ultimately unnecessary.

Hey, BB! Thanks for the info! I will go check out your page. BTW, I know you weren't "yelling" at me, I was just joking around about how Escapay always posts links to similar pages (

). Anyways, I check the GameStop inventory, and many have the 60th Anniversary (of course none close to me), but one store does have an inventory of "4+", so do you think its price will be lower? I may transfer that, but, (like The Little Mermaid II), I will wait til after Christmas, because my parents will probably not let me buy anymore DVDs (unless they are Christmas-related probably). The reason I will get the 60th Anniversary is because (like I have read in the reviews), the Pink Elephants scene is better. I will be getting both of the editions, probably just to make it a two-disc set (like I plan to do with Robin Hood, but for different reasons: Fullscreen-Disc one, the old mill in color- disc one (the GC disc), Widescreen-disc 2, The Old Mill in B&W - disc 2 (the MWE disc)). Wish me luck!

It also might have been a mistake but play.com had a Dumbo SE listed as well, it never said the amount of discs though, it was listed for May 23rd before being changed to Coming Soon

From what I've read and seen (ie- the UD review's screen captures), I think I may choose the 60th edition.

In my opinion, the crop/loss of the image area (Note the review's screen of the elephant tower.) is unacceptable. Walt and the animators framed the art as they intended! That's almost like buying a full screen version of 'Lady and the Tramp' or 'Sleeping Beauty' when the original widescreen version is readily available!

I can live with grain, and I'm not sure I like the brilliant colors of newer editions of Disney animated features, a la 'Cinderella.'

I don't know if the R2 versions use the exact same transfers, but I just received the R2 "Special Edition" and I think it looks much better than the previous release. The picture was overly bright, had too much contrast and color saturation, and also great amounts of digital burns and noise. Now everything looks fine. I see no reason in keeping the old release.
