Re: I thought some woman named Jodi Benson voiced Ariel...
No no, it's Kerry Butler. She said so in an interview that she did the demo for "The Little Mermaid".Disney Duster wrote:I believe that is actually Celia Keenan-Bolger singing, not Kerry Butler. The Little Merboy wrote:I think Kerry Butler is perfect for the choice of Ariel, she did a great job on the demo.
And it sounds just like her.

Q: You also were part of the reading of Alan Menken's The Little Mermaid. What's happening with that?
KB: I don't know [laughs]! Your guess is as good as mine. It was great. [Menken] wrote amazing new songs, a lot of new songs, it was so good. We'll see. . . I did the demo and the reading, and then that's it [laughs].

The Little Mermaid Broadway Demos
Well, I don't know...someone on the Little Ariel Forum said this:
Anyway, I found a blog that has all the demos. Let's see if this one keeps working, or if it'll stop like the old one did. To hear the demos, scroll down to the bottom of the pink page and then find one you like. Click on it, and it should open a page with the phrase "4 Shared, your virtual drive" at the top. Scroll down, wait a few seconds, and then click on "Play" or "Download", whichever you prefer.

Notice that the full version of "Part of Your World" has an Ariel that sounds quite different from the Ariel in the other songs. I believe that Kerry sings the full "Part of Your World" and Celia sings the reprise and the other songs. I hope we get Celia in the cast, because Kerry sounded annoying and disgusting, not sweet or beautiful like Celia.
This implies that yes, Kerry Butler did A reading and did maybe SOME demos, but not the demo online. But I don't know FOR SURE.There have been several workshops, and Kerry DID participate in some, but not this one. The workshop available online is the one from last July that Celia did.

I LOVED the new songs, but one thing really, really REALLY grated on me. In the song 'Beyond My Wildest Dreams' (which should have been in the movie)!, Ariel says some thing like "Oh my god! look over there..."
I feel that Ariel wouldnt ever say 'oh my god'. i dont know why, i just dont!
anyone else agree?

That might be because, in the movie, she only ever says, "Oh my gosh." I have a feeling the creators were trying to avoid religious issues.
Besides that, though, Beyond My Wildest Dreams was pretty good. Wasting Away is still my favorite new song though.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"

that is not proof what so ever, just because someone said that. atleast i posted an interview with Kerry, so that there is more reliable than your quote.Disney Duster wrote:Well, I don't know...someone on the Little Ariel Forum said this:

i know the full "Part of Your World" is not part of the actual demo. it's from the special "Part of Your World : The Music of Alan Menken." she sang that live, the other versions could be recorded in a studio, live and studio never sound the same. so the whole project could be Kerry, there is no way to find out.
Kerry is a better choice, hands down

even though this is over a year old, it still proves. that Kerry is more tied-in to the role of Ariel. Celia hasn't even been mentioned, only by fans like you, hoping she gets the part.

Ariel is Celia or Kerry?
I'm only a fan of Celia if that really is her doing the demo. If that's Kerry doing the demo, then she is actually good and I hope she gets the part. Maybe when she did the concert, she wasn't trying to sound like Ariel, but now that she's trying for the part, she's doing a better job. I don't see any real proof that it is Kerry Butler, you just have good evidence. I'm basically just saying I want Ariel to be whoever did those demos, whether it's Celia or Kerry. I thought Kerry singing "Part of Your World" was terrible, in that particuliar recording, but if that's her on the Broadway demos than it proves she can sing better. The Little Merboy wrote:Celia hasn't even been mentioned, only by fans like you, hoping she gets the part.

Avenue Q not the only Musical with puppets!
Well, I hope the shark actually gets to chase them instead of just appearing on the side of the stage and they pretend to run from it. Related to this, it might be a puppet. I heard Pat Carroll was set to be the voice of Ursula in puppet-form. Any confirmation on this? I'd rather have a costumed actor instead of a puppet.Jasmine1022 wrote:does anyone know how they are going to go the shark on stage? because he's so big, and it might be difficult. just a question!

I hope not. I don't see why Disney always has to make a robot for her in everything. Jeez, just give a woman a long dress (with some padding if she's thin) and put some make-up on her. Emily Skinner wasn't bad on the demo, so I wouldn't mind seeing her. However (as far as voice goes), noone can play Ursula like Pat Carroll. Sometimes I wonder what it'd have been like if they had used Rosanne Barr in the movie. @_@

I registered just so I can say this:
Has anybody noticed that the very last little bit of music on the Part of Your World demo is exactly like the last bit of music from Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop of Horrors? I find that very amusing.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I've been curious about what the final note of Daughters of Triton was, and the "younger" Ursula is an interesting take on the character, but I think she takes it a little too far in that direction sometimes.
