Animated American (ImageMovers)

Post by ichabod »

From: <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR111795 ... Variety</a>
Disney has acquired "Animated American," a film that will use a mix of live-action and animation to illustrate the difficulty teens experience trying to fit in.
Bob Cooper's Landscape Entertainment and ImageMovers partners Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke will produce.

Peter Ackerman will pen the script, about a misfit who's at sea when his girlfriend leaves town after graduation and he's forced to find himself. Protag will be animated, while the world around him will be live-action.

That mix was employed by Zemeckis and Disney in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." Zemeckis and Rapke recently moved their ImageMovers label from DreamWorks to an overall deal at Disney.

Random fact...Protag means every day in German. :shifty:

Anyway, does anyone know if this will be a mix of CGI (or motion capture photography, considering Zemeckis is onboard) and live action or hand drawn animation and live action?

Disney/Zemeckis' Animated American

Post by Sotiris »

Robert Zemeckis and Bob Cooper will be producing a project called 'Animated American' for Walt Disney Pictures. Rob Edwards (The Princess and the Frog) will write the screenplay.

Similar to Zemeckis' own 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit', 'Animated American' will involve a reality of both cartoons and live-action people. The plot follows a cartoon baby raised by "humans" who, on his 18th birthday, decides to go in search of his birth family.

Zemeckis currently is attached to numerous projects right now, including the drama Flight, a sequel to Roger Rabbit, another CGI/live action hybrid called How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack, and two time-travel films, Timeless and Replay.

Better not be another mo-cap flop. I wonder how many millions Zemeckis has already lost Disney.

There's an insanely talented traditionally trained group of animators sitting around at WDAS doing nothing right now....

USE THEM.

This could work with the right script. Though the plotline sounds a bit similar to The Country Bears, hopefully they can stay clear of that mess.

But, this sounds a lot more plausible, in my opinion. With a lot more freedom.

I don't think that the animated character will be mo-capped because it won't contrast the real world enough. So, it will probably be CG. I wish it were hand-drawn, however.

I have a confession: I did like A Christmas Carol. Not a big fan of the motion capture style but as long as the story is good, that's what matters. That said, I'm glad that Zemeckis is backing out of the Mo-cap it seems. He used to do a lot of live-action. Where did those days go?

You know after reading 2 reports on this, it got me thinking; Could this be the Roger Rabbit sequel in disguise?

Also here's another link regarding on this project:

This project was first announced (with the same title and with both Disney and Zemeckis involved) way back in 2006!
