Hi! I'm writing from France and the review of The french edition has been done. http://www.dvdrama.com/news.php?16863rodis wrote:Any clue on when we'll have the UD review of The Little Mermaid? I just went through some of the reviews of the site and can't wait 'till the one for Mermaid is posted. Luke, anyone? Is it going to happen before Oct. 3? Thanks.
Is it true that the original French version with Claire Guyot and Henri Salvador is on this DVD in Francewinniedu77 wrote:Hi! It says that it is a disappointement, disappointing because of the others disney movies editions which are better.
The movie is supposed to be restored but the 1.66 format respected from the previous DVD is not respected for this new one (1.78 now). The colors seem to be worse. Finally, there is no mention about the restoration in the bonus material as they did in the previous editions of the others movies.
I hope that it will help you all.
In the second link, you'll find the french menus as well.
Fortunately yes it is! And we are happy!kenai3000 wrote:Is it true that the original French version with Claire Guyot and Henri Salvador is on this DVD in Francewinniedu77 wrote: Hi! I'm writing from France and the review of The french edition has been done. http://www.dvdrama.com/news.php?16863

The first screen cap is from the PE. The second is from the LI. The new version has more image, so it was actually the Limited Issue that was the wrong aspect ratio and the Platinum Edition is correct. Also, in the screen cap from the LI, Ariel's skin has a yellowish tint. The PE looks more like skin color. From the pictures I've seen of the new restoration in the other topic, I'd say the new restoration looks really well done and all of the colors seem to be more accurate than the LI was.Hi! Are you not able to sit down and talk with them? What will happen if your parents find out you spent money on this DVD? If it was me, I'd try to talk to them instead of having to try to hide a DVD from them for the next several years....nachonaco wrote:I work next to Wal-Mart.

And what should my explanation be for having the DVD?
Well I don't think there's much of an explanation you can give for owning a DVD. It's not like you can just say you bought it by accident or anything. I think you should just explain to your parents that Disney is for everyone. I hope they realize that it was adults that created these movies. No offense to your parents or anything, I just find that very odd.nachonaco wrote:I work next to Wal-Mart.

You saw what happened to all of the stuff Ariel hid from her father, King Triton. Do you want your parents destroying your DVD? Just kidding. I have a friend who's parents are very closed minded and once they are set in their ways, there is little anyone can say to change their mind. I know how hard it can be to talk to parents, so this is what I would do. Wal-Mart has a HUGE supply of cheap DVD's(around $5.99). I would pick 1 or 2 that your parents would approve of you owning. Buy that WITH "The Little Mermaid." Remove both discs from TLM and dispose of the case. Place the discs in the 2 cheap movies, and place the real discs on top of them. Be careful to choose 2 movies your parents would not go to borrow so they don't find your discs in it. And then I guess watch the movie while they are asleep or something... wow. I feel like I'm giving you instructions on how to hide porn from your parents. lol.I work next to Wal-Mart.

I know about the re-dubbings because I collect the foreign Disney songs and I have two versions of most of the songs in Euro Frenchwinniedu77 wrote:Fortunately yes it is! How come you know them?
wow, your right about one thing. it sounds a lot like your telling him how to hide porn. come on, just suck it up. Im asking for the little mermaid myself as a christmas gift. and Im already finding it a bit embarrassing when it came up in conversation once, but hey, Im not going to go to extremes and try to hide it. I may not watch the movie as openly as I might something like aladdin, but when it comes to actually owning it, dont sweat it too much. maybe try and explain how this movie brought disney back from a dark period of sorts in animation. it jump started animation enough so we could later on get to the really good stuff like the lion king and aladdin.goofystitch wrote:nachonaco wrote:You saw what happened to all of the stuff Ariel hid from her father, King Triton. Also, if you want the cover art, you could just by 1 movie they wouldn't have interest in seeing but approve of you owning, remove that cover art, and place it over TLM's cover art under the plastic of the DVD case. You would have to get rid of the slip cover, but it's just shiny embossed cardboard anyways.
Good, maybe now they'll stop thinking we're all pedophiles. Honestly.nachonaco wrote:My parents, in an extremely odd and unexpected event, said I could get the DVD.
It was my DAD, who is so ridiculously anti-Disney it's not funny, who said he wanted to get it.
Probably because I freak out during 'Poor Unfortunate Souls'.
Because unlike the others in the Fab 4, The Little Mermaid is almost entirely female-centered. Your protagonist and antagonist are both female. The strongest and most developed characters are female. Unlike Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, The Little Mermaid is the only one in which there really isn't an equality in the lead male/lead female dynamic. In BATB, you've got two major protagonists (Belle and Beast, and even Gaston to an extent). In Aladdin, the central figure is Aladdin, but Jasmine is just as developed as he is. In The Lion King, Simba and Nala are pretty much one and the same, except for gender. With The Little Mermaid, sure, Prince Eric gets some screentime, but it doesn't develop his character much as he's either seen enjoying the sea, worrying over a mute Ariel, or under a spell. He isn't given as much growth as everyone else. The whole story is about Ariel, and that's probably why many consider TLM to be the "girly" film of the four.Kyle wrote:random thought: I wonder why the little mermaid thought of as so girly anyway? guys like girls, so why wouldnt guys like movies staring girls? is it the underwater thing? the singing?
