Thanks for getting me a better picture (well, once it's posted, lol).

Dude, seriously GET. OVER. YOURSELF. My comments were toward DisneyDVDFan who was the most recent poster in the thread, thus, the ones I saw. I already read the previous posts, and commented on his to ask about his period piece shelf.

(Don't know why I even bother trying to explain anything anymore. reyquila is of a one track mind that everyone must be jealous)

You're welcome. I've only watched the first two Hornblower movies on DVD, hardly have had the time to watch the rest. Looking to get the Wind in the Willows series and movies one of these days. I remember watching them on PBS on Sundays as a kid.

BTW, do you have any versions of Nicholas Nickleby? I've seen a few, but I think the one I like best is the 2002 one by Douglas McGrath, with Charlie Hunnam as Nicholas. Also, if you want another period piece to add to your collection, I also recommend Roman Polanski's version of Oliver Twist, and (once it's released) the 1940 Laurence Olivier/Greer Garson version of Pride and Prejudice. That should hit the shelves October 10. And (yeah, another and, lol), there's a new 10th Anniversary Edition of the 1996 miniseries coming out on Tuesday. Supposed to have a new remastered transfer, a third disc with two documentaries, and a bonus companion book about the movie.

And (ANOTHER one!), I also saw that you've got the old versions of Pretty in Pink and The Princess Bride. I wholeheartedly recommend the (single-disc, not two-disc) special edition for The Princess Bride. It's a really well-put-together disc with great bonus features. The two-disc is okay, they simply add 40 odd minutes of unnecessary featurettes and charge you twice what you can pay for the single-disc set (which is often at Wal-Mart for $7.50 as opposed to $20 for the two-disc).

Wow no versions of Nicklas Nickelby yet have had my eye on the A&E version that comes in the Second Romance collection set ... but wil look out for the one you mentioned... Yeah I know about the Pride and Prejudice release looks gorgeous may have to hold out for a bit too many pre orders ;) i was looking to get the Disney Oliver Twist with Elijah Wood but will check out the other movies you mentioned too ;...thanks again

you sound like you know your stuff ;) as for the Willows series they are releasing all of the sets plus movies sometime soon ... so you can get all of them instead of separate sets. amazon has it up already ...

well thanks again for all the positives ..
Oh forgot to add about the Princess Bride and Pretty in Pink trying to hold out for the Dread Pirate edition Like that cover better as for pretty in pink don't know if I want to double dip on that as yet...

I know what you mean. My wallet always hurts in the fall and winter DVD season.
DisneyDVDFAN wrote: i was looking to get the Disney Oliver Twist with Elijah Wood but will check out the other movies you mentioned too ;...thanks again
No problem. I passed on the Elijah Wood Oliver Twist when it first came out, but the review here for it is pretty good. May get it if I can find it used or at a lower price, but otherwise, it's a low priority for me.
DisneyDVDFAN wrote:you sound like you know your stuff ;)
Thanks again! I like to make sure to keep up with DVD news and releases of films that I have even just a passing interest in. Sometimes get a blindbuy that I read up on and picked out simply to check out the bonus features, then I'm pleasantly surprised to see that it's actually a pretty good film. Eg. I blindbought the Garbo Signature collection solely because of the price (on sale for $79.99 at Amazon), and the collection-exclusive documentary from TCM, and had no real interest then at watching any of the other films besides Camille and Ninotchka. Over time, I decided to watch Anna Christie, and then Queen Christina, and now consider both to be two more of my favorites from Garbo (though nothing tops Camille. Nothing.).
DisneyDVDFAN wrote:as for the Willows series they are releasing all of the sets plus movies sometime soon ... so you can get all of them instead of separate sets. amazon has it up already ...
Ooh, that's good. It's always cheaper to buy in boxsets for me, though sometimes I take exceptions (another example, but I'd buy every season of Lois & Clark individually instead of waiting for all 4 to be out, so now I just need to wait for Season 4 to come in November).
DisneyDVDFAN wrote:Oh forgot to add about the Princess Bride and Pretty in Pink trying to hold out for the Dread Pirate edition Like that cover better as for pretty in pink don't know if I want to double dip on that as yet...
Well if you're upgrading from single-disc barebones to two-disc Dread Pirate, I'd go for it, but if it's about content and price, you'd still be better set with the single-disc special edition. I mean, yeah, the two-disc is two discs and has kickass cover art, but the 3 new featurettes and quote game are hardly worth the difference in price. Plus, sometimes after watching the features, you feel like watching the movie again, and conveniently having it on the same disc is quite a benefit from having to take the disc out and put the other one in and let it load.

I still need to get the Pretty in Pink double-dip, but like several other new Paramount SE's, it's not that high on my priority list. Once I have my hands on Reds: 25th Anniversary Edition and 1900: Extended Edition, then I'll likely concentrate on finally getting stuff like the Airplane, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Pretty in Pink SE's.

And just some random DVD recommendation: Pick up Legend: Ultimate Edition. Every DVD collection should have this two-disc set. Legend = Greatness. Legend = Fantasy At Its Best. Legend = my favorite movie in the whole world after The Ten Commandments, which will always claim the top spot no matter what.

Yeah I have had my eyes on this for a long time just waiting for the right time I guess not a big Tom Cruise fan so i guess that is why it isn't on top of my list right now ;( but I may just get it for my collections ... as for the two disc I will get that simply because of the slipcover if nothing else ;) it is only 14.98 or so on amazon ...

well I think this discussion is in the wrong thread hopefully no one complains ;()

 Yeah, a lot of people are turned away cause of Cruise. Thing is, the fact that he's so awesomely bad in the role strengthens it as Jack the character is really somewhat...well, even though he's a hero, he's not supposed to be the brightest crayon in the box, you know?

Oy, the slipcover. I'm a huge anti-slipcover person, lol.

Hehe, no worries. People have hijacked threads before.

Has anyone of you ever seen the Jane Eyre 1973 version with Sorcha Cusack? I'm thinking about getting that one, but I'm not sure yet.
