the disney that used to be

Post by disneyfella »

after making my way through all the posts, it has come to my attention that disney has edited some of their films. now i knew they edited out the cigarette in melody time, and took out the martins and the coys from make mine music, but it got me thinking, "what else has disney destroyed"? i don't know what they took out of saludos amigos. so if you know of any edited or deleted disney element, please post it saying

a)what movie
b)what it was that was deleted
c)any idea as of why it was deleted
d)any idea of where to locate a "pure" copy (unedited)

well, Roy said that he was unaware that Saludos Amigos, Make Mine Music, and Melody Time were edited. He assured us, that the next release, would be UNEDITED

I dont know if he assured us, but atleast he will try his hardest to get them UNEDITED!

Well they edited the "1-800-SPANK-ME" reference from The Santa Clause, but that doesn't really bother me.

Something like colorizing The Absent Minded Professor is much more troubling to me.

I didn't know that about the Santa Clause. Hmmm.
I find any tinkering with the original disturbing.
Now, there have been recent cases where films have been scrubbed up and restored (Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty for example), but I don't have a problem with that. Keeping the picture and sound fresh is a good thing that will help them last for generations. We can't deny the technology we have.

Edits to fit today's standards are unforgivable. These movies stand as historical documents.

The biggest edit I can think of are the attempts to erase Song of the South from film history. We want the DVD, and we want it uncut!!!

Soapbox time is over.

There are also a bunch of shorts that have been edited. Several of them were available unedited on Home Video (VHS or LD) and are currently OOP. We know they were edited because their airings on the late great Ink and Paint Club on the Disney Channel were cut versions.

I'm waiting for their eventual release on DVD to see if they restore 'em, or if they're scared that the image of Mickey pulling a gun on Donald is harmful and should be lost in the vaults forever...

Unfortunately, I still haven't purchased The Santa Clause on DVD, but it is certainly one of my favorites and I have the VHS. I had no idea about that line being cut either. I've ALWAYS laughed hard at that line. She gives Scott Neil's number

"1-800-SPANK-ME...I know that number"
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?
