Congrats on the great find. We have nine GameStops here in Wichita and I find Disney stuff all the time. Not that good of stuff, but lots of fill-in movies for my collection of both live action and animated films. Best thing I got there was Fantasia Anthology for $29.95 last year.

Yes, but so far from what I've seen, the condition of the DVDs is pretty bad. I have a Fantasia 60th anniversary suspected bootleg that I found last weekend and a SW where the outer DVD case and insert isn't in too bad of condition (and its a real one!) but the discs are pretty scratched up. I saw a Peter Pan about 6 mos. ago and should have bought it. I suspect the condition is always going to be pretty bad compared to going online to a dealer. The parents are probably letting the kids handle the DVDs. But at least at Gamestop, you are holding it in your hands and can try and discern whether its a bootleg before you pay for it.

Still have yet to find a Sleeping Beauty SE or Fantasia Anthology in the GameStops in my area, but here's a list of Disney DVDs I got used, along with other BVHE titles, in other stores as well:

GameStop:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition $16.99
Pinocchio: Gold Collection $14.99
Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition $9.99
Peter Pan: Special Edition $12.99
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: 25th Anniversary Edition $12.99
The Fox and the Hound: Gold Collection $12.99
Oliver and Company: Special Edition $9.99
Beauty and the Beast: Platinum Edition $12.99
The Lion King: Platinum Edition: $12.99
Tarzan: Collector's Edition $12.99
Brother Bear: Special Edition $12.99
The Lion King 2 - Simba's Pride: Special Edition $9.99
Dinosaur: Collector's Edition $7.99
Monsters Inc: Collector's Edition $12.99
D2 - The Mighty Ducks $6.99
D3 - The Mighty Ducks $6.99
Spy Kids 2 - Island of Lost Dreams: Collector's Series $6.99
Spy Kids 3-D - Game Over: Collector's Series $6.99
Serendipity $6.99
Proof $9.99

E/B Games:
Fantasia: 60th Anniversary Edition $11.99
Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001 Release) $9.99
Atlantis - The Lost Empire: Collector's Edition $9.99
Finding Nemo: Collector's Edition $11.99
Signs: Vista Series $9.99
The Golden Girls: Season Four $12.99
The Golden Girls: Season Five $12.99

Sam Goody:
Tron: 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition $9.99

Coconuts:
The Rocketeer $6.99
The Cider House Rules: Miramax Collector's Series $10.99

FYE:
Life-Size $6.99
102 Dalmatians $6.99

Blockbuster:
Tuck Everlasting $12.99 (it was also my first Disney DVD)

Bandit Video:
Treasure Planet $7.95
The Fantasia Legacy - in perhaps the stupidest move I ever made, I found the third disc from the Anthology for only $7.95 a couple years ago...and I STUPIDLY PUT IT BACK.

It's all really in knowing where and how to look. Instead of skim the titles, actually look at them individually, otherwise you might overlook a title that's right in front of you (During my one visit to Gamestop, I first found Snow White in my first skim, the skimmed again and noticed Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan, then after another skim, I finally found Tarzan.)

My GameStop always has Disney dvd's, but it's usualy new releases. I think people steal them from the Wal Mart across the street & sell them there. I bought my Totoro & Howl's the day they were released there used.

GameStop here in Wichita is pretty picky about what movies they put out for sale. I have never known them to sell a suspected bootleg copy. They are also very selective in the titles they buy so they don't have ten of certain titles and none of others. Most of the Disney titles are together and I never found any of the cases to be a such bad shape that I would pass on them.

My favorite store and they have a web site you can look at what they have in stock at all times, is CD Tradepost. They have stores in several states and they carry quite a selection of Games for PS1, PS2, XBox, XBox360, Super Nintendo, Nintendo64, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast and GameBoy of all kinds. They also pay more than GameStop when you trade movies in and they have a definitive children's movie section.

Check them out at: www.CDTradepost.com

YES...here's a list of the titles of bought:

1. Beauty and the Beast (with slipcover) - $12.99

2. Snow White (an AUTHENTIC one..) - $17.99 (apparently, Gamestop raised the price of SW to $19.99 used....when I asked them about the price change and how it used to be $16.99, they gave me $2 off, which was really nice of them)

I have also SEEN others there, but not purchased:

1. Aladdin - $14.99

2. Beauty and the Beast (no slipcover)

Unfortuately, that is it...as far as Gamestop / EBGames...I dont have the oppertunity to go there often.

BUT, at my local used CD / DVD shop, I have seen...

1. NEW Fantasia 60th Aniversary Ed. (YES, NEW IN PACKAGE!!!) for $29.99....I would have bought it, but I wasn't able to at that time.. :(

2. used TENG:CE for $29.99 (again, I saw this, and I had actually never seen one before, so stupidly I went home and searched the net about it, and then I called the store and asked if they would hold it for me, but it had already sold....less than 2 HOURS after I left.... :( :( )

3. many used Aladdin and TLK PE's ranging from 9.99-12.99; they also have new ones from 19.99-29.99

4. Brother Bear SE- used 9.99

5. TENG (standard Ed.) used - 9.99

Here's the ones I purchased from them:

1. Bambi PE - 19.99 new

2. Sleeping Beauty SE - 18.99 new

3. TLK PE- 9.99 used

4. Brother Bear - 5.75 used

So, overall, many used CD / DVD or game stores have some really good deals on Disney DVD's!! I love going to those kind of stores cause you never know what you may find!!! :)

When I worked at Suncoast a year and a half ago, a lady came in with a copy of Snow White, I was like where did you get that?!! She told me gamestop so I stopped by there every now and then and never found any OOP titles, only newer titles.

My Gamestop has Snow White, but they want 17 for it :( (as opposed to 13 for the others...) I actually picked Snow White up used at Blockbuster like 4 years ago.

I found both Beauty and the Beast and Snow White at EB Games, which is a store VERY similar to Gamestop. I was all worried that I'd have all the Platinums but those two (because I didn't start collecting until around TLK's release) and then I found them there when I was looking for a game.

I remember finding old Disney movies at BestBuy as well (like The Emperor's New Groove: Collector's Edition and The Fantasia Anthology).

Just a small fact:
Ebgames is actually owned by Gamestop...it was a merger of some sort earlier in the year or late last year

Well I finished watching both discs of the SW copy that I bought at Gamestop over last weekend, for $19.99. It was like 6 hours to watch and play everything. I woke up with "One Song" stuck in my head!

After cleaning the SW discs of fingerprints etc., they look fine! I used liquid hand soap and water and just my finger to lightly clean it and then rinsed and used a fine grade T-shirt to wipe. Both discs play perfectly so I can't be happier about this. As for the 60th Anniv. Fantasia, I am almost positive its a bootleg. Maybe I'll post the pics in a new thread and see if anyone wants to help authenticate it.

From what I gather at Gamestop, they don't try to check for bootleg status, unless it is pretty obvious. They would have to train all their personnel on the fine points of bootlegs for not only Disney but any other type of highly collectible DVD product. I can't see that they have the time or ability to do that.

I don't think that Gamestop personnel can actively watch for Disney bootlegs except for anything that is certainly obvious. They'd have to be trained in all the fine nuances. Someone here did mention that they saw an SW bootleg at Gamestop.

I FINALLY found Snow White a month ago. I was hesitant to buy it because the insert was in pretty bad shape and was $17. But I decided to get it anyway, as they have NEVER had it before and I really wanted it. I'm glad to own the movie but am even more impressed with the special features. They are the best I have ever seen on any DVD.
I've seen Sleeping Beauty a couple of times, never with a slipcover. I came upon Beauty and the Beast once, probably a year ago, the slipcover was in terrible condition though.
On a side note, what is it with people and their DVDs? Is it really that hard to put the DVD back in the case and then put it on a shelf?
Though not OOP, I'm still waiting to get Cinderella. I never find it with a slipcase.

I know alot of my dvds have gotten beat up when my 2 yr old got a hold of them. She's starting to learn to treat them better though.

It's funny that you should bring this up because I thinking the same thing. I watched my newly purchased Gamestop edition last night and I must have spent about 6 full hours watching (and listening to the audio commentary from Walt/John Canemaker) and when you look at how many people were doing guest appearances on the DVD (Barbara Streisand, Eisner, Roy Disney, etc. etc) you really can appreciate the amount of work that went into this release. It really is quite amazing. After listening to or watching all the features, you become an expert on how the studio was instrumental in developing the art of animation… truly must have been an amazing experience to be part of Walt's studio back in those days. But not only are there the special features but all the design elements with the interactive menus and the galleries – all that artwork that is presented. I do not own any of the subsequent early platinum editions (eg. Pinocchio etc) to know if they kept up that high level of detail in the releases and of the current Platinums that I do own I haven't had a chance to watch any of them.

I am positive it is parents who let their kids handle the DVDs and the fact that there is the big misperception that DVDs are indestructible. This would account for the atrocious condition of the copies found at Gamestop.
