Classics box set from Japan
Doesn't this box look great! It's called the "Early Classics Collection" and includes 10 movies: Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Melody Time, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady & the Tramp. I really like the artwork on the DVDs. It will be released on September 22nd.

According to http://www.xe.com/ucc/271286 wrote:I HAVE to get this? Anyone who knows what bonus features it will have? Languages ect.
Notice it's region 2, thats odd normally Asian DVD's are region 3 encoded...
what is the price (¥ 24,200) in british pounds or american dollars, dont know how to convert this currency...
¥ 24,200 = £114.823
or
$213.639
hope that helps!

So it looks like an official release from Buena Vista Home Video Japan.

That box set is exquisite!
It makes them all the more classic with the retro poster cover art.
Good work Japan!
It's sad Australia doesnt get anything fun like this.
People would buy it as you can't get Snow White, Fantasia or Pinocchio
anymore. Ah well.
Delightful!

That is incredibly gorgeous.
If it wasn't so expensive, and the fact that I'd just be buying it for the box alone, then I'd jump all over it. As it stands, I already have:
- 3 copies of Snow White (from different regions)
- 2 copies of LATT (Limited & Platinum) * Soon to be 3!
- 2 copies of Pinocchio (Limited & SE)
- 2 copies of Bambi (R1 & R4)
- 2 copies of Alice (R4 & R1 ME)
- 2 copies of Cinderella (R1 box & R4)
plus singles of the other ones in the box. It would incredibly excessive to pay the $213 for things I have already rebought.
And a box. Don't forget the box.
It's odd, isn't it? We have a pretty dedicated following here - indeed, a large chunk of the non-US UDers are from a Land Down Under - yet we tend to get shafted when it comes to fancy boxes and SEs. I suppose we can't expect a fancy box like that when we aren't even getting a 2-Disc set of Lady & the Tramp next month!

It's also for the original poster artwork on each disc, and it's the first time that Melody Time has been released in Japan. I'm hoping that it will be the uncensored version, which would be the first time on NTSC. The 4% speed up on the PAL DVD is very noticable with Bumble Boogie. It sounds freakily fast.Loomis wrote:That is incredibly gorgeous.

We wouldn't be Disney Connoisseurs without owning multiple copies of every Disney Classic.
I too have many copies of the same movies, heck I have 5 versions of Aladdin alone if you count the good ole VHS copies of everything that everyone bought.
Technically I already have 3 versions of The Little Mermaid but of course i'll buy the new 2 Disc one. And a Collector Box if they bother to surprise us with a release.
I think everyone should invest in the Japanese Boxset purely for the
fun and the chance to say to kids in the Future that we got things in
Treasure Chests when they laugh about those crazy old things called DVDs.

I got my Japanese re-releases of Pinocchio, Fantasia & Snow White
the other day.
Its fun on Snow White as the Magic Mirror speaks in Japanese.
And the menus are in japanese.
And theres turn offable Japanese subtitles while everyone talks...
But other than that theyre exactly the same as the Australian releases.
Even Fantasia is the disgustingly hacked up Edited version with
dodgy presentation.
Unlike the beautiful 60th Anniversary American one, which any actual
Fantasia fan should already own.
Other than that, hooray for Japan re-issues.

"UK format"? Well, it's R2...
Commenting on earlier posts: Not all Disney DVDs from Asia are bootlegs. Besides, based on my experience with Japanese Disney releases, the Japanese know better than most how to make really classy covers!
I'd even consider the whole release even more classy if they'd included all of the package features instead of those 50s titles...

Japan do majority of their DVDs better.
They have awesome collectable sets for films if they put their mind to
it.
My Directors Cut of Kill Bill V1 is a prime example.
I think you can still get it off HMV.
Think up random movies and look them up on Hmv.co.jp
you'll find lots of trendy, zany boxsets.

It is beautiful isn't it?
I bought my copy from Akihibara & then had to buy extra luggage
just so I could fit my Disney Classics treasure chest in!
I love the tin.
I thought it would be shoddy cardboard but it is an excellent
set. Plus the recently released versions are still all 2 Disc!
Excellent value!
A must buy.
