The Hunchback and Hercules: Will they ever come out again???
I am really furious with Disney at this point! Why won't they give us a good (scratch that out) fantastic 2 disc release of these wonderful movies?
Well they're wonderful to me. Anyway, I really do need these to come out again. I missed them the first time on DVD, I got them on VHS, and I'm really hoping that they will come out of the Disney Vault. I mean really, why can't they do this we these two movies like what they did with Tarzan and TENG? Except they need to have WAY better bonus material!! I'm losing patience because my Hercules tape is looking kind of grainy and at the top of the screen there's this fuzzy line that distorts the picture (I don't know if it's the tape of my TV). My Hunchback tape is also looking a little grainy. Come on Disney get these out of the Vault! We've been waiting!!

'Sokay. Most likely you'd only find it in video stores like Sam Goody or Suncoast, and there you'd have to pay SRP. I haven't seen them in a Wal-Mart or a Target in ages...TheSequelofDisney wrote:Oh..........sorry!Escapay wrote:Um...they're not in the vault. I'm kind of curious that there's been no word of a Hunchback of ND 10th anniversary edition...could this be yet another clue that Disney is waiting for hi-def before they upgrade previously released films?

If you read the reviews on this site, they say that there will probably be a better 2-disc re-release of these two movies. I hope that they do this. Maybe, just maybe, Disney is holding out on telling us about Hunchback's 2-Disc 10th Anniversary Edition DVD!

I agree! It's one of my favorites. I would love to see if get an upgraded edition. Who can I write and complain?Finchx0rz wrote:Oh, I hope so! Yeah, and maybe Disney is also holding out for the 2-disc Special Edition of Hercules. Maybe it'll come out next year!
I do hope so, my VHS copy is pretty bad!

If you want to complain or request a Disney DVD you can call (800) 723-4763.
I think you guys need to remember that it is only a minority of Disney animated films that have been treated to a 2-Disc version. It isn't like they have picked on Hunchback and Hercules. There are many other good animated films with few extra features; this includes films like Winnie the Pooh, Robin Hood, The Aristocats, Oliver & Company, The Mouse Detective, and the list goes on. Sometimes you just have to be happy with what you got. I think some of us have become spoiled with all the 2 Disc versions of the more recent animated films. The main thing is that you have the movie and it looks and sounds half-way decent. And remember: 2-Disc sets are not normative--they are the exception.
Note: it is important to be familiar with the reviews before commenting in the forum.

It's worth again pointing out that <i>Hunchback</i> got a nice 16x9-enhanced transfer, the Disney Channel's making-of documentary, a DTS track and an audio commentary, to boot. While we all know the studio scaled it back from a 2-disc package and thus there is room for improvement, <i>Hunchback</i>'s first DVD release gave the film more respectful treatment than the majority of works in Disney's canon. At the time of my review, there had been just one Platinum Edition and <i>Hunchback</i> was almost definitely one of the ten best animated classics DVDs (regardless of what one thinks of the film). There are still many works which are in far greater need of an improved re-release.

ANOTHER Hunchback & Hercules thread? Is it that time of the month already?
Was Hunchback's transfer really that good? I read the UD review, and I know it's anamorphic, but the other reviews I read all said that the transfer was full of grain and wasn't enjoyable at all. It's the main reason I've stayed away from the current DVD for so long.
To copy/paste my responce for the countless other threads, my guess is that Disney's waiting for Blu-Ray to re-release them.

I have found that Luke's reviews are consistently very reliable. I watched a good chunk of Hunchback today to investigate what you were talking about. I think that whoever through the picture was grainy had something stuck in his contacts. There are a few instances when the background is supposed to look like it has texture like the statues in the church. Maybe someone thought these should look smoother but the Disney animators were looking for realism. I did find that there were white specks that appeared from time to time. They aren't terrible but as we know Disney is capable of slightly better. When you read Luke's review on this particular movie you have to consider he didn't have a lot of reference material to determine precisely what an animated film should look like.
If you like the film, you might want to wait a little while to see if Disney will re-release this DVD but it just doesn't seem likely. It is easy to see why this film didn't do well at the box-office and probably wouldn't do well as a 2-Disc DVD. The animated films have always been aimed at both kids and adults but Hutchback is way too adult. The movie is too intense and serious--it is likely to scare kids. Please understand I am not saying I don't like the film. I think it has some of the greatest music of any of the Disney films and many of the backgrounds are beautiful. I also notice today that they use heat distortion which is pretty impressive-I don't remember that being used in other films but maybe I have just forgotten.
Anyway, the point is there is some minor imperfections in the picture but overall this film looks and sounds great. It has been treated better than many other animated films.

Does that mean that they will only come out on blu-ray? Or will there be simultaneous releases? I'd rather have the DVD...Pasta67 wrote: To copy/paste my responce for the countless other threads, my guess is that Disney's waiting for Blu-Ray to re-release them.
I don't know about everyone else, but the blu-ray thing has me worried. I do not want to spend the money to replace all my movies with blu-ray editions. I JUST started seriously collecting DVDs.
...not to mention that the packaging for blu-ray discs is hideous...

I would also rather have the DVD, because I'm now collecting the DVD's of Disney Animated Classics, on the Classics list that UD has, and some other Disney movies.numba1lostboy wrote: I'd rather have the DVD...

I don't see any 'sticky topic' at the top of the general discussion section. Just one for upcoming releases.PatrickvD wrote:there should be a Hunchback Hercules 'sticky topic' at the top of the general discussion section.
and yes.. we need a new release of Hunchback THIS year.

I'm sorry I didn't phrase it correctly, what I meant was that someone, like a moderator or Luke, should make a sticky. Since every other week a new person creates a Hercules and Hunchback thread. But it's really none of my business, I'm no moderator.TheSequelofDisney wrote:I don't see any 'sticky topic' at the top of the general discussion section.
