Mulan becomes Platinum!

Post by 2099net »

From the animated-news forum
Disney Netherlands revealed that after the well-known platinum releases (Snow White, Beauty and Beast, Lion King, Aladdin, Bambi, Jungle Book, Little Mermaid, Cindrella, 101 Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp) there will be 3 new movies released in the serie. Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Mulan will become platinum releases!
Odd that they should confirm Pinocchio - I assume the Netherlands have the single disc SE released over there.

Of course, Platinum is only a label used in the US, so I would just take this as news of a 2 disc Mulan coming. However, it indicates this will be after the other, pre-announced titles are released so it will be a few years yet.

This is great news, but does it mean that we have to wait untill after 2007 to get it? or are they gonna release it as part of the special edition collection in europe, or as a masterpiece edition in the States? i dont wanna wait that long :o

Why don't they just do the inevitable and make every animated classic part of the Platinum Collection? I can't wait for the day when the Disney Channel stars do a music video for things like "Ichabod, Ichabod Crane" and "Why Should I Worry?"

Well I always thought that "Mulan" would be re-released as a 2 disc anyways so whenever it comes out I'm sure I'll be happy.

What about Sleeping Beauty and Fantasia? Could Mulan have been mistaken for one or both of those? I mean, I think Mulan deserves a two-disc set and will get one sooner or later, but it's hard to believe that Disney would give it a Platinum distinction. It was successful but it was not as successful as, say, the Fab Four of Mermaid, Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King. I thought it would get a 2-disc Special/Masterpiece Edition simmilar to the current U.S. Sleeping Beauty and January's Alice in Wonderland release.

If it is Platinum then it's likely to be fluffy and even have a new song or other enhancements (if they go the IMAX route.) So to be honest with you I'd rather it be a Masterpiece Edition like Alice with no new song, no other enhancements and substansial extras.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Platinum thing - honestly you lot make more of it than Disney does. Especially for the Netherlands - they, like the rest of the non-US world, don't use Platinum as a label anyway.

Just take it as being a Mulan 2 disc set. Technically most of Europe has already had a 2 disc Sleeping Beauty (and a 2 disc Fantasia). I'm surprised that they "confirmed" a 2 disc Pinocchio - presumably this will be Pinocchio's third all-new release, when it arrives.

If they put any more on Platinum they all should go platinum. It would be very unfair not to put all the animated classics on platinum if the other half is.

Couldn't agree more.
I'm looking forward to having A copy of Mulan on DVD, and anything that isn't barebones is a bonus for me.
Shame to think we might have to wait a bit longer than expected for it, but even so, it is good news.
Can't wait.

I think it's unlikely that "Mulan" will be a Platinum edition, but very likely that it will get 2-disc treatment. I think that, if Disney had to choose any other of the 90 movies to go Platinum, it would be "Pocahontas" or "Tarzan".
But it doesn't really matter... what matter is that almost all of the nineties films are going to get SE treatment... and that is great!

I tink so. I don't care the name of the collection, I just want special editions of all classics with interesting bonus features. Disney has material for doing that.
