Raven and my appreciation for her

Post by numba1lostboy »

First off, I'm not really sure where this topic went, but Raven is thoroughly involved with Disney, so I put it here.

Anyway...

From what I see from other Disney Channel (and Movie) Princesses (i.e. Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff) in the past, Raven seems to be the only one "keepin' it real." (only time in my life i have EVER used that phrase)

She has a funny TV show (yes, I DO think it's funny...but Suite Life is, admittly, funnier) that doesn't seem to have any plans of ending anytime soon, a fairly good music career (a second show soundtrack CD out this week), and a loyal fan-base.

She also promotes a healthy body image and is one of the few hollywood ladies that has made it big despite being...well, big. In addition, her personal life isn't plastered all over the media, which helps so that we don't hear about her flaws (cuz let's face it, everybody has 'em, and the paparazzi tends to focu on nothing else), and her music and the things she promotes are setting forth a healthy way of life, unlike Lindsay's scandalous (Recess shoutout!!) "Rumors" music video and her risque lyrics.

All in all, Raven is a great role model and person from what I can see. If anyone has any info contradicting this, please keep it to yourself...why rain on my parade? :D
:pan: Love It.

I agree with you. I think Raven is one of the only "tween" stars out there that has stayed totally true to herself. I would have said the same for Duff a year or two back, but ever since she went on that diet and got all anorexic looking (young girls should NOT be dieting), I can't relate.

Props to Raven for being a great role model for young girls and kids in general.
It's up to you and me, to face our destiny. The jury's here so let's take the stand.

I would have to agree with you as well. She is a great role model for young teens female/male. Not very many now a days. All songs are now are people sing of sex, drugs, violence, etc. Well it was always like that lol but it is WORSE now.

Anyhow, I think she is great. She may not be the thinnest person on the Disney Channel but she is healthy and keeps herself very attractive and she carries herself well. :)

Duff never went on a diet.. she had jaw surgery (to fix a dental problem that she had) and when you get a sugery like that... u cant really eat.. ergo the weight loss
anyways... i have always liked Raven. I think that she has a natural comedy talent and will be in the public eye for most of her life.

I, myself, quite enjoy Raven. She's not the most amazing actress or singer, but I enjoy the occasional episode of That's So Raven, enjoy seeing her in Cosby Show reruns, and enjoy the occasional song by her.

I agree with everyone. I'm very happy that we don't hear about Raven in the tabloid magazines and that she has a healthy body image. I'm tired of hearing of the same people every week in US Weekly. Its good to know that there is someone who we can all look up to and someone who appreciates her fans and like I mentioned before, has a healthy body image. It's very sad to hear about all of these young celebrities and what they're doing to themselves and then have tween and teen girls look up to them when they're making such poor choices not just for their career but for themselves.

wow. I really didn't expect this many people to share my opinion. I always hear about how people are annoyed with Raven, but I always disagreed. It's nice to see that there are other deep people out there!

PS has anyone seen her new video "Some Call It Magic"? Opinions?

I will say that I do like Raven, even if lately her show has been...let's put it lightly....bad. She is a good role model for girls and also, she does have good comedic timing (if that counts for anything). And I will admit (and it might not have even come from her) I have for some reason started sayin "o snap" a lot, and I can't seem to control it. grr...

While I can't stand actually watching her show (not being the target audience, I completely understand), numba1lostboy's points are good ones. She's certainly a more respectable individual than her fellow celebrities in the whole tween pop-culture group; the rest of whom are anorexic, skanky airheads.

I got to see Raven live last summer, and she's very funny. It's great to see someone who isn't afraid of being herself, has a great family, and just wants to have fun in a healthy way. But hey, I'm in love with her, so my opinion might be biased. LOL
