Pinocchio - March 2008
( Blu-ray exclusive starting 2008 ) :
Snow White - October 2008
Peter Pan - March 2009
Beauty & The Beast - October 2009
Sleeping Beauty - March 2010
The Lion King - October 2010
Fantasia - March 2011
Aladdin - October 2011
Bambi - March 2012
Cinderella - October 2012

Lady & The Tramp & The Little Mermaid are not listed, though expected

Thanks MonsieurJackSkellington! That's a very interesting list. We've seen similar lists before, usually based on what's been posted at the Disney UK website.
http://www.disney.co.uk/
Your list is slightly different, though. And it also includes some future re-release dates that I don't think were commonly known before.

However, you left out one very important piece of information: What's your source?

I have a feeling "Blu Ray Exclusive" means that the titles won't be on HD-DVD too. There's no way Disney wouldn't put out a "normal" DVD, considering they're still releasing VHS now!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Does anyone know- will the Disney Treasures ever be re-released for those of us who didn't start collecting them at the beginning?

So Disney isn't going to start releasing Blu-Ray until 2007? That's dissapointing.

I imagine they'll be re-released on Blu-Ray eventually; but I wouldn't count on it happening very soon. Perhaps future Treasures releases will be on Blu-Ray, if they get as far as Wave 7 or 8; though personally I'd rather they finish the line on DVD for the sake of continuity. Would many of the older from the 20s and 30s even be eligible for High Definition enhancement? The newer stuff, like Runaway Brain or Mickey's Christmas Carol would probably be good in HiDef, though. Even the stuff from the 40s-60s too, I guess.

What's the point of that? Any Blu-Ray release would have everything the DVD edition had, except better picture quality and perhaps even more extra features in some cases. Why spend another $25 or more on the redundant DVD release?

Well if this list is acurate, I'm not too happy. I don't want to wait that long for Peter Pan or Fantasia.
Best Movies of 2009:
1. Moon
2. Inglorious Basterds
3. The Hurt Locker
4. Coraline
5. Ponyo

This is the Jan 5, 2006 BuenaVista Home Video official list of Blu-ray launch date titles :

Armageddon
Dark Water
Dinosaur
Everest
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Hero
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Ladder 49
The Brothers Grimm
The Great Raid

These ten titles mark "the first wave on format launch".
This list of course doesn't include any titles to be released in the folowing months after launch month, like the (actual photo) that currently graces my avatar. Or the list in Monsieur's post. Sony for example without revealing any more title's names, said it would be releasing 5 more catalog titles per month for the first couple of months, then afterwards 10 a month for the year 2006. You also have to remember that the BuenaVista Jan 5 list was done before the Pixar adquisition, so Pixar titles wouldn't be announced at the time pending the outcome of the negotiations, nor it was released before the favorable current "wave" of support Iger (who has publicly said he's bullish about the new format) has gotten lately :-P

Yes you have, cus otherwise the Blu-ray police will come to your house and spray paint you and your DVDs red and therefore you wont be able to play them anymore even if you play them in the Blu-ray DVD/BD players and you'll follow Ringo and be sacrificed at dawn to the goddess Kaili!

j/k Lion711 of course ;)

I wonder whether the Blu-Ray release of Dinosaur will port over the extra features from the original 2-disc CE, or just the bare bones edition.

the Source?

Post by MonsieurJackSkellington »

A beautiful lady named Tracy whom is the Entertainment Liason between companies for Walt Disney Company Limited in London.

I had the pleasure of working with her at a company meeting this past month in London.

Her job this year is to begin advertising and marketing with a man named Andrew Parsons, the senior vice president of Pioneer Electronics (the company who are creating new Blu-ray players)

Her prime objective is to spread the word of products in the Blu-ray revolution for the United States of America.

Australia & Europe will be at least 3-6 months behind the Americas so I know you will feel very lucky.

Keep in mind that Disney is just one of the new companions to Blu-ray, not to forget that Sony is along for the ride, with their new PS3 being Blu-ray compatible.

Though Sony only really seemed to be offering such films as Stealth as an example of Blu-ray at the time of the meeting, just imagine the possibilities of live music concerts becoming available on this new medium.

Exciting, fresh, the future.

Blu-ray exclusive & Fantasia...

Post by MonsieurJackSkellington »

Shed a tear for Australia as they only received a straight video copy of
Fantasia when the DVD was released, with no extras whatsover.

Luckily I was able to import the 60th Anniversary Edition from the United States and it is beautifully restored & the music brilliantly remastered.

And yes it is a long wait, but imagine the Australians who have never had the chance to see the 60th Anniversary version on DVD. The Blu-ray release will be quite exciting.

As for Snow White being the first Blu-ray exclusive...
That simply means that Snow White WILL ONLY be available
on the Blu-ray format in 2oo8, as by then the world will have these new trendy systems.

I'm assuming those who can't keep up with technology may chance upon a DVD release, but that'll be like buying it on a VHS....obsolete.

Bonjour a tous.

the only real complaint i have about all this is that the platinum series will not be finished on dvd until 2011 when i think disney could easily end the series in 2009. i think we all could handle Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and Snow White on blue ray in 2008, and Sleeping Beauty, Fantasia, and Beauty and the Beast in 2009. that's jsut my personal opinion.

and yes we could settle and buy these titles on ebay and so on, but why do that when we can have a better edition soon!

I admire your faith in Disney's long term comitment to producing Platinum editions. I hope that this faith is well placed.

Well I'm happy! That list is identical to the one I worked out last week using Disney's UK site and an old thread in these forums (Pinocchio used to be listed as March 08 now it's not for some reason).

Still think it's interesting that they used the new additions to fill the March slots on the first 4 years releases rather than just add another 2 years on the end. Though I guess Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and Aladdin all in 2 years gets through too many of the biggest films too fast.

Can you clear up one thing for me? You say Blu-Ray exlusive starts with Snow White in Oct 2008, does this mean that the 2007 and March 2008 releases are DVD only or on both DVD and Blu-Ray?

I'm guessing (hoping) that it's the latter, though part of me really wishes that if they're starting Blu-Ray this year (with Chicken Little, POTC, The Incredibles, etc.) they may consider using The Little Mermaid as the first Blu-Ray Platinum. Guess I was just hoping for too much.

On a related note, does anyone know if the Blu-Ray Platinums will be just 1 disc due to the extra space, or will we be treated to even more special features to make them special 2 disc editions again?
