High school students: How much homework do you have?

Post by Alan »

I currently am a sophomore in high school, and I HAVE A LOT OF WORK. I'm taking honors bio, honors precalc, AP WORLD, english, and spanish. AP world is really hard. On average, I have like 4 hours of homework a night
.
So how much homework do you fellow high schoolers have, and whats your grade?

I just started yesterday, and I am on an online homeschool. I'm taking Algebra 1, English 10, World History, Cinema History, Art and Music and Music of the 20th century. I have yet to complete any graded assignments but I usually take 2 hours to read everything, 3 if I have quizzes. Since it's homeschool, the only time I devote away from the computer is reading for English. Oh yeah, I'm sophomore too.
Cheers,
JM :thumb:

You're lucky to have AP classes. I've been applying for AP for 3 years. I never got accepted. Apparently, you need a 90 in every class. =/ I'm a senior now. I just started school today so I don't know how much hw I have. My schedule is short though. 7:50am-11:50am.

I don't have that much, and when I do, I usually finish it at school.

I miss being homeschooled...

Dang youre a super smart kid. I took honors bio but I didn't start taking AP course until I was a junior. Pssss, 4 hours of homework... you're gonna looooooove college. ;) I think your exagerating a little bit. I take 4 credit corses and they require atleast 10 hours of studying a week so that's about 2 hours a day not including the weekend. And lets see I'm taking about 3 plus one 3 credit course so about 7-8 hours a day I have to study. But I dont spend that much time.

It just depends on how much homework I get every night. Some nights I have as much as 5 hours while other nights I have 1-2 hours or even none. Doing 7 classes of homework a night is not easy (I wish I block scheduling!)

The classes I'm taking as a Junior: PreCalculus honors, Marine Biology Honors, Spanish III, AP English Language and Compostion, AP American History, Digital Design II, and Digital Design III.

PreCalculus and English AP would have to be my two toughest classes. AP History is easy for me and always has been easy for me (ex. AP Euro History as a sophmore).

Yeah, I skipped a year in math. This are the courses I'm taking next year:

1. AP Calculus BC (This is gonna be a party!!!!)
2. AP Bio
3. Honors American Lit.
4. AP Spanish
5. AP US History

I'm currently taking AP World. Its supposed to be hardest AP history course in my school.

Ahh...Its nine o clock and I think its time for me to write my AP World Paper on hero archetypes...

I've been out of high school for awhile now, but I never remember having 4 hours of work to do unless we had a paper or something. And that wasn't in one night. I took honors everytime I had an option and one AP class (AP Biology).

Not a lot of AP stuff offered at my old high school. I think they have a lot more now since they built a new high school and split the students between the schools.

And I agree with the classes your taking in high school you must be a great student. Congrats :)

I just started on Tuesday. I am a Junior in High School. I take Advanced Computer Animation, Advanced Computer graphics, Web Design, Spanish III, Math, American History, Chemistry, and English. I never had alot of homework. It takes me a half hour- to an hour each night depending on how much work I have. I can memorize very fast, so studyng has never been a problem for me.

Well, I'm not a high schooler but since I'm in eight grade, I'll post anyway.

Science: I don't have much homework in science but if I do, it's usaully fun homework so I don't mind.

Algebra: I get homework everyday in Algebra but so far it's esay(So far...)

History & English: I get alot of homework in this class too but luckily, history and english are my best subjects so it's not that hard.

Drama: I rarely I have homework in drama. If I do, it's either to find a monolouge or to write one.

Advanced Computer Animation?
Music of the 20th Century?
Cinema History?

Wow- those are awesome classes. I would have loved to have had those in high school! Luckily I can take them here in college (ok, I won't actually take advanced computer animation because it's too complicated... and I dropped 20th Century Music bc I had enough music classes on my plate.. but I'll be doing cinema history for sure! I definitely would've done all three in high school, though).

I'm also a sophomore in high school. I don't have a lot of homework, since I only have 4 classes (I have my remaining classes next term). 8) My 4 classes are:
Latin IV - This year we've been starting to get more homework..not too much, though, and not every day. Simple stuff.
AutoCAD (computer drafting) - Well, I didn't even want to take this class, but whatever. We do all of our work in class. No homework.
WAS 2 Honors (World and American Studies) - We don't get much homework..just reading assignments, which I never do. I do, however, skim through the chapters before we have a test or quiz.
Geometry Honors - (I took algebra in 8th grade, along with survey literature, but my high school made me start from the beginning, so...) We get daily homework in this class. Thankfully, our book isn't that large and the homework is actually pretty easy, considering how I'm terrible when it comes to mathematics.

All in all, I probably only spend 30 minutes on average doing homework..some nights I'll spend 90 minutes, some nights I'll spend none. I never overwork myself. It helps that I have lunch after my first 2 classes. That gives me about 30 minutes to do my homework. I like doing my homework during lunch, not because I'm lazy and didn't want to do it the night before, but because I feel like there's less pressure..like when I do it at home I'm rushing to get it finished so I can go to sleep.

I don't get great grades..it depends on how much I pay attention. I'm not a stupid kid, really. I went to Decatur (used to be the top elementary school in Chicago or something..I don't know) and I've done well on my ISAT tests and what nots. I don't think my high school entrance exam was all that great, though. I got like an 857 or something. That's like..a B-! I'm really bad when it comes to doing homework. My grades are usually an outcome of my the effort I put into homework and studying, rather than how "smart" I may be. For example, in survey lit. honors freshman year, I got an A the first term while everyone else was getting bad grades. Theeen I became lazy and my grade dropped to a D. That wasn't too pretty. I totally failed my finals. BUT I am also good at bringing up my grades. In biology in 8th grade, I had like..a 50% for the quarter, so I decided to do my homework and study hard and viola! I ended up with an A for the quarter.

I think I talk too much.
