Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Well, I saw the movie today and let me tell you it was so good. Everyone MUST see it. Johnny Depp was excellent as always. I love the Oompa-Loompa songs, all the kids played their parts very well, the visual effects were amazing. The movie stayed true to the classic book and yet it contained new story elements that kept me interested throughout the whole thing. So Good!

Saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", and I liked it, mostly. The first twenty minutes and the last half hour are absolutely mind-boggling. It is the middle hour that I had a hard time staying awake during. Too much talk, and lame talk at that. I think the critics are wrong when they say that Johnny Depp is doing an almost perfect imitation of Michael Jackson with his speech pacing, his makeup and of course his walking. I didn't see that at all. Tim Burton has another masterpiece on his hand and I look for this movie to get nominated for quite a few Oscars next year.

I have seen both movies. I LOVED Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (05), but I also LOVE Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory (71). The visuals to the new 05 version was just jaw dropping. I loved the visuals!!! Then you have a werido Jonny Depp, playing a werido Willy Wonka (which was the best thing in this movie). Also it's a Tim Burton movie. Then you have the classic 71 version which is more like musical than this new version. The umpa loopias were a bit more darker in the 71 version were SCARY!!!! I like the music in the 71 version because you can actually hear what the umpa lumpas are saying. The 05 version you have a really hard time listening to the dialog!!! Which is kinda of annoying!!! I thought though the 05 version was a little more FUNNY!!!! 71 version is a classic (should get a better DVD version (2 Disc)), and this 05 will be a classic. The young generation will like this one over the 71 version. And I think the older genertion will like the 71 version over the 05 version. I was born in 83....I think I will lean more on the 05 version, but as I said before I LOVE BOTH
71 version 9.0/10 - better musical, a little darker
05 version 9.5/10 - better actors, awsome visuals
71 version 9.0/10 - better musical, a little darker
05 version 9.5/10 - better actors, awsome visuals

Usually I avoid remakes like the plague, but I can't help but be receptive to words like "darker" and "edgier than the original." I doubt it will be in a sense, but with Tim Burton, as long as there's a good script, which there is especially him following the template of a very dark children's book. Just so long as it is better than Monkeybone, which I'm sure anything would be! I adore the 1971 movie, seen it 10 times or more. But this remake has my attention, especially since Tim Burton was my first favorite director as a kid.
I could see why they compare Jackson with Wonka, but I don't agree with it. First off...Wonka seemed disgusted by the children, LOL. He was a bit sadistic as each child was cast off. He reminded me more of a Pee Wee Herman type of person and Johnny said he watched some old children's shows to get a feel for the Wonka character. Perhaps that was one of the shows. Which the Pee Wee's Big Adventure was of course one of Burton's films.
The child actors were fantastic! Normally I can't stand child actors, they seem too scripted and cardboard, but these kids hit the it on the mark with each character.
The flashbacks were interesting. The whole boat tour should be a real ride!
I liked the oompa loompas myself.
I will never look at squirrels the same way again, LOL

Love the orignal, and love the new one just as much for different reasons!
Johnny Depp was awesome, and it was an interesting take on the character. They do a great job in explaining why Wonka was such a social misfit and why he was so inept at dealing with people. There were some great one-liners!!!
The children were cast perfectly. I liked how they updated Violet and turned her into the horrid child of a soccer mom. I also liked Mike Teavee's character a lot; he actually reminded me of some snotty kids I know.
I didn't care much for the songs the first time, but they really grew on me at the second viewing and I'd *love* to get the soundtrack. I've been a huge fan of Danny Elfman's voice ever since Nightmare came out and I think it's awesome that he sang all the Oompa Loompa voices! And it's cooler than hell that they were able to use some of Roald Dahl's original lyrics!

Saw it last night with a couple of friends, and I was just wowed by it. It's much truer to the book, but with such a dark-but-more-comical-at-times tone to it. The OompaLoompa songs were taken directly from the book, and they are kind of catchy when you first listen to it, but trying to recall 20 minutes later what it sounded like at all would be a problem. It didn't have the kind of beat to it that makes you remember it easily, like in the 1971 version (Ooompa-Loompa-doo-pa-dee-doo, I've got another puzzle for you...).
Overall, I would recommend the 1971 version solely for the camp of it, but if you want something closer to the book, go for the 2005 version.
I wonder if it'll be successful enough that they go forth and make Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. Course, I have to reread that one to see if it's movie-worthy, I think I fell asleep last time I read it.

If Tim Burton directs the movie, with the boy that played Charlie (Freddie Highmore), it will be a hit!!!Escapay wrote: I wonder if it'll be successful enough that they go forth and make Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. - It was more true to the book... it added the scene with the squriles and Charlies dad.

- I really love this movie... my only problem were the kids who played Mike Teave, and Augustus.
Thoughts
Let Me Just Say I love The Original.. Willy Wonka film.... I love everything about it and I think it is one of the greatteset classics.... it wasnt really true to the book but it was still good.... When Around 1999 I heard they were making a Wonka film.. I was really happy. So I saw the film Friday which was opening night and All I can Say is I love this Film.Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors.. he was great as Wonka... he was more funnier and alot less serious then Wilders chracter. Freddie Highmore was a great Charlie.. He was better than the original... The Kids who also played Violet and Aruca were alot better than the original ones IMO. The Sets were great in this film... This film is alot more true to the book than the original was and I like that since I love the book. Danny Elfman added great music to the film from the begging score to the oompa loompa songs were all fantastic. It was also very interesting to see Wonka as a kid and how he found the oompa loompas and u met wonkas dad. The Only thing that really bothered me were the kids who played Mike TV and Augustus.. I thought they werent that great compared to the original chracters.
