A great insult to Jackie Gleason!

The television commericals for this movie make it look like Barbershop. And why is it that when I add a emoticon, it erases my message?

It doesn't even look like Honeymooners. It's just another lame comedy movie.

I don't mind reinventions (Bewitched), but this is just sad.
See thats my point. The outrage is because it does not look like the Honeymooners. ie they are black. As long as some white people are remaking Bewtcihed it is Ok though right?
No I think Bewitched looks unappealing too. But The Honeymooners looks worse! I said my reasons above!

Never asume. I never said it was because they are black, so please do not make it look like I don't like the movie because they are black. FAR from it. It is because it looks like another lame "comedy". Far from being funny. Barbershop, that had some funny moments. Barbershop was fresh and new. While then they came out with Beauty Shop, which was Barbershop all over again, but with girls.
When I saw it doesn't look like Honeymooners, I mean, look at what they did to Jackie Gleason's character? He's just not the same. Not to say he isn't a great actor, but he can't pull it off from what I see on the previews and sneak peaks. None of the characters are the same. You have a fat guy, a skinny guy, and their two wives who nag them. That's as close to the Honeymooners as I can see. I just can't imagine him saying "Straight to the moon Alice" and it being as funny as Gleason.
When I first heard they were making the movie, I figured John Goodman would get Jackie's role. It was only natural. Flintstones were the Honeymooners in B.C. and John played Fred in the first movie. So he could have pulled it off. But they rather have updated it TOO much with flat comedy. I bet you $10 it has at least one fart or burp joke too.

Also, I never said I was excited about Bewitched. I said they did a total reinvention of it. Trying something new. And frankly, it does look amusing, but it ISN'T the Bewitched I grew up with.

Even though I grew up on the series (it was my dad's all-time favorite TV show) I think this might be funny. Am I the only one that thinks so? I don't really have an opinion on it yet, but a new take on the idea might be interesting. And who knows what Jackie Gleason might have thought. . . maybe he would have gotten a kick out of it. After all, he played other roles that involved sexual humor in which he cussed like a sailor. Television was very different back in the fifties.

I know Siren's posts enough that she probably is no racist. I was challenging that it could be interpreted that way and certainly someone who was unaware of her prior posts could have interpreted it that way.

I am still not quite sure where all the venom towards this particular remake is coming from. I think almost all of them in the last ten years have been horrible. The only one I can think of that I liked was the Addams Family.

I agree with Siren too. Like I've said before I hate when they remake classic t.v. shows because they can never be as good as the originals. The Hooneymooners looks bad because just by looking at it it took all the classic humor and fun plots people have grown up with. It would be alright if they had a fart joke or a sex joke here and there but this looks like it has those jokes nonstop! As for Bewitched it looks a bit better but doesn't look great because I don't like Will Ferrell. But I've never been a big fan of Bewitched anyway.

I kinda enjoyed "Guess Who" (the GWCTD remake). Of course, I never saw GWCTD, so I couldn't really expect GW to be really bad.

And I guess I'll give the new Honeymooners a chance. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Frankly, I think I stated what I did just fine. If someone didn't know me, they would now. So that changes nothing.

I agree. Addams Family was one of the best remakes...if not THE best...But why? Because they stuck to the forumla. In all truth, nothing changed. In the series, you hardly saw the outside world. Just their dank and dark home. But with the movie, they stuck to the same formula. They didn't make it hip or new even. They didn't reinvent. They stuck to what the show was always about. A spooky family who thinks they are normal and the world is too colorful.
While Honeymooners new movie is bringing it too much into this era. Honeymooners originally was a different kind of show. It was real. All that Donna Reed stuff of "Yes, Dear" didn't exist in that show. Alice might have been making the meals, but she threw it down in front of him with gusto and sometimes disgust, not a smile and a kiss. That's what made the show such a success. It was honest and funny and different. Unless they set the movie back in that time and not now, I don't see how it can be as funny and honest and different.
