At any rate, I'd advise staying away from Showgirls like the plague. Well, unless laughing at really bad movies happens to be your thing.
What's Showgirls? lol

I saw an R-rated version of The Scarlet Letter starring Demi Moore.

Ja! I still haven't seen any NC-17 movies yet. Does The Lion King count? Simba and Nala... lol Somebody please lock that thread by MickeyMouseBoy. hehe

I didn't want to post the URL to that thread, but Luke did. Ah, the irony. You folks are weird!

I think I saw Friday the 13th, but I don't remember much. Jason wears wearing a hockey mask and carries a chainsaw. I think?

Oh come on, I saw Showgirls, I didn't really enjoy it but I wasn't actually mortified by the content. But I also saw the edited version on MTV.

It's not the content that I found so objectionable, the story was just really bad. It might have been worth watching if they could have made the main character somewhat sympathetic and relatable, but instead she was b*tchy and alienating. How could I care for the film when I couldn't find any way to relate to the main character?

Has anybody here seen the JPN porn videos with the girl in the Mcdonald's uniform? There is even a KFC one. I've seen clips from them. I would like to see a US porn company try to do this.

That stupid whore named herself after the daughter from Bewitched. I never realized it before.

and:

What do I like about porn? Lets just say I got a thing for naughty Asian schoolgirls. I will just leave it at that.
So if she's a whore for doing porn movies what are you for watching little asian girl ones?

Judgement Day!

Before most of the younger members here were a twinkle in their parents eye we only had 4 ratings for movies in this country, G,PG,R,X. A lot of movies that would be rated PG-13 back then were rated R.

Sorry SunsetGirl. I was responding to Luke's post. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I'll drop the topic about Simba and Nala.

I don't have much to say about R-rated, NC-17 or UK:18 movies anyways.

[2099net gets on Showgirls high-horse again]

Given Paul Verhoeven's previous films, its not a huge leap-of-faith to assume that Showgirls is also a satire (although, I'm sure scriptwriter Joe Eszterhas didn't actually intend to write one - I understand he was upset by Verhoeven's interperation of his script).

But viewing it as a satire on both society today and entertainment, it works perfectly well. Noami wants to become famous, and being set in the late 20th Century, she figures the easiest way to do so is by, metaphorically, selling her body as a showgirl. She also finds out that she is expected to physically do so as well in order to get ahead. After a traumatic "wake-up call" she finally realises what she has been denying and decides it's not worth it.

While I wouldn't go as far as to describe it as a comedy (it features rape) it certainly is a satire in the true sense of the world ('A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit.'). Hopefully by viewing the film, the message will be absorbed by the viewer. Don't get me wrong, it's no masterpeice, but it's not even close to being one of the worst films ever made.

Showgirls is one of the few NC-17 films i've seen on a theater (A coworker girl invited me to it :-P) (She also invited me to Heat. Was she trying to tell me something? )

I think it's like theater of the absurd so if you take it seriously you miss part of the point, just like people see Starship Troopers and don't get the violence. Want to know more? Click here

I've also seen the X rated version of Kubrick's Clockwork Orange (not the one on the DVD) and the uncensored Eyes Wide Shut (not shown in most of the US); the violent Robocop and Blade Runner versions before they came up on home video, and a couple more elusive unrated cuts that didn't make it to home video, and Henry and June which I think was the first NC-17 rated movie or one of the first.

As for R-rated movies they number legion and i really don't pay attention to the rating system so i don't even know which are G PG R A B or C :-P I just watch them

The NC ones etc i kind of noticed cus there was hoopla surrounding them and it was interesting to note "so this is what's considered adult". I don't see any difference between Showgirls and a million other films that aren't NC-17. Maybe it was the sheer hedonistic theme or sumethin'

Or cus the main actress had been a Teen TV gurrl in a previous life..

 I can't believe it, you guys are still talking about porn.

I take full responibility for this whole mess--it got out of hand when I wrote that statement about X-rated films. It wasn't meant to start this at all. I'm just going to sit back and warn you until this turns into a big mess, then Luke or one of the mods will shut it down.

I've seen movies beyond R. NC-17 and those that were never even submitted for an MPAA rating. Hell, my collection is peppered with them: Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, Zombie Holocaust, Jungle Holocaust, Zombie, Pink Flamingos... I got most of them when I was 16.

Starion- Don't worry, there isn't anything you've said here that's bothered me; you're not the person I'm referring to. What's freaking me out is the fact that someone here is seemingly admitting an attraction to underage girls. . . I'd really like that to stop. . . :shifty:

And as for all the talk about Showgirls, I'm not trying to purposefully put down anyone's favorite NC-17 movie. . . I'm not much for the NC-17 rating (or even the R-rating, for that matter). Hell, I'm not even the biggest live-action fan around, so I guess I'm just weird.

And I never said that it was the worst movie ever made, but I did feel I completely wasted my time when I tried to watch it. And yeah, my boyfriend owns the movie so I've been exposed to it many times. Satire or not, I still have to be able to relate to the main character, so I don't know, maybe I still have too much of a feminist left in me or something. And it's not as if I even find it offensive or anything, I just think it's incredibly boring. I'm sure you'd find some of *my* movies boring.

Yeah, and I noticed how well Elizabeth Burkley's career took off after that.

Don’t be jealous Mommy. 8) I like girls of all ages and colors. I also like girls that are dressed as teachers, office workers, nurses and doctors. All the porn I look at is legal. I’m not stupid enough to look at the real illegal stuff. I would say the majority of male anime fans are perverts.
