Well it's been a Disney day at my house!
The Island at the top of the world 
Well I had been wanting to see this for a while. I was pleasantly surprised. Very similar to Disney's earlier film "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", it was a solid adventure film and definitely one of Disney's high points. The effects and direction were great, but what else do you expect from a film with both Peter Ellenshaw and Robert Stevenson in the credits! Also the killer whales were surprisingly realistic! (although not quite at the free Willy level
). I would definitely watch this again and may even pick up the R1 DVD if I should find it at a satisfactory price.
Make Mine Music
Well I may as well do each section separately!
The Martins and the Coys:
Well I really like this piece, the animation all though not a technically brilliant, not as much shading and highlighting and detail as earlier films, the quality of expressiveness is brilliant. The ending may be a bit predictable but It's nice enough. At least they keep the feud going! It was especaially nice to see the multiplan work in this segment, which I believe was it's first outing since "Bambi".
Blue Bayou:
Well being a hang over from Fantasia, the animation is faultless. The multiplane work is second to none. Not a lot happening may mean some could find it boring but I like this segment. I feel that it is a little short though, I know there is more animation on the cutting room floor, so Disney probably just edited the animation to fit to the length of the song.
All The Cats Join In:
This short has a great concept, a pencil drawing the onjects and characters as the actions are happening (and years before Warner Brothers did it annoy Daffy Duck
). I like the simplicity of the animation in this segment. I do however dislike the way it ends do abruptly, it just seems to stop.
Without You:
Well I love the opening shot of this segment, the dark room with the light coming through the window. There are also a few other shots that I liked such as the wavy lines becoming the tree shadows. Very artistic and fantastic qulaity animation, but it just has no point to it other than that. Unlike the "Toccata and Fugue" segment in "Fantasia" which I feel really showcases animation and builds upon itself, this just seems to go nowhere and it is far to short to do so. Also Andy Russell's singing is just dreary!
Casey at the Bat:
Some may be surprised to here that i find this the most boring segment of Make Mine Music, but I just find it dull. It is very similar to the Goofy "How to" shorts, but I just don't like it. The animation is good and I like the watercolour stills at the beginning, but all in all it does nothing for me.
Two Silhouettes:
It's far to short to really do anything but it has a nice artistic edge that I don't think has been done in animation before or since. I guess the figures are rotoscoped, probably more for ease than anything else. But again it was to short to have a story and is pointless.
For me from this part on the film really goes off and is amazing!
Peter and the Wolf:
Brilliant, simply brilliant. One of Disney's highpoints of all time for me, I love it! I love the animation and the backgrounds espescially the Multiplane work which instead of looking like oil paint has the same soft quality as the watercolour backgrounds, giving it a nice warm, soft look. The use of the music is perfect and all without a word from any of the characters, a true sign af fantastic animation. I always used to cry at the scene when I was little
After You've Gone:
I really like the sequence, not sure why but I just really like seing the musical instruments running about and sliding up and down the keyboards. Very bizarre, great animtaion.
Johnnie fedora and Alice Bluebonnet:
I'm not sure why, but I love the animation in this section. It is such a sweet story and the song is actually really good to, it is actually relevant to the actions.
The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met:
Well what can you say, this section is faultless in terms of story, animation, humour and music. It is again one of the pieces of animation I would class amongst Disney's greatest. Also a great moral and a brave end, not just for this segment but also for the whole film. Also I love the fact that the villain is trying to help, yet doesn't realise what he is doing! Absolute genius! I am against remakes, but if Disney were to make a full length animated fetaure based on the section I am sure I would absolutely adore it!
Plus the songs were great too! My favorite songs were "Be Our Guest" 
and the mob song! 
Overall this is a great movie that I reccomend to people aged 3-203! Grade:A
The music was surprisingly dull(and I'm a huge Alan Mecken fan!) the gargoyles weren't that funny compared to Lumiere/Clogsworth, Genie/Magic Carpet, Timon/Pumba and the story itself was just rather boring. The only cool parts were Judge Frollo 
I couldn't stop laughing. I swear I could've died from not taking in some air!
