What happened to the Masterpiece Editions DVD's???

Post by Disney Villain »

I was browsing my DVD's and I came across Alice in Wonderland Masterpiece Edition. I opened the case and saw ads for Pocahontas and Mary Poppins Masterpiece Editions DVD's. We know that those have been bumped to Anniversary Editions. So what the heck happend to the Masterpiece Editions DVD's??? :?

You answered your own question. They were replaced by either an Anniversary title or an SE title. But does it really matter?

first they tell me the Dodo is gone, now this! where does it end!... honestly, I don't care about the title. I find it funny Alice is now the only masterpiece edition out there. as if that film is the masterpiece of all Disney animation. Kinda weird :P

I have no qualms against that! ;) We do still have the possibility of Lilo and Stitch become a ME, though, since this year doesn't mark any special kind of anniversary (and so far only Sleeping Beauty and Brother Bear are simply called SE's).

Totally. Outside the US, we've never really have a consistent set of names anyways. At least the US has SOMETHING resembling a line (Gold Collection).

Regardless, as long as the DVDs are good...

I love that name though I wish they could continue. I have a question, why do some DVDs have a SE title when there never was a regular, because then it doesn't make the name special anymore (Ex.Heartbreakers: Special Edition, I love the movie but I don't know what's so special about the DVD)

ouh! I think people should start not to be thinking about edition labels, cause Disney does´t care about that, today they say we´ll get bannana split editions, and tomorrow they´ll change it, and we all freak out

Does anyone remember the Masterpiece Collection for VHS? They were the Disney classics in white clamshells with new coverart with Masterpiece Collection for the title. This came after the Black Diamond Classics and before the Gold Collection. How many DIsney classics made it into the Masterpiece Collection VHS line? I also recall they had a set of McDonald's Toys for the Masterpiece Collection.

I believe most of the Disney animated classics were released under that line except:

Fantasia
Saludos Amigos
Make Mine Music
The Rescuers Down Under
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin

I think it started with either Snow White or The Lion King and ended with either the re-release of Alice in Wonderland or the re-release of The Great Mouse Detective.
