Is there a problem with my dvd?

Ok i got my Sleeping Beauty Collectors Edition R2 in the post this morning....when it starts and kind of throughout the dvd player makes ALOT of noise when playing it and sometimes the menu goes abit weird etc.
Did anyone have this kind of problem?
Is it my dvd player?
Or is the dvd faulty?

I would say that it is your DVD player. Mine used to do that (DVD player I mean) My DVD player used to freeze in the middle of things, or just stop. Sometimes it made odd sounds too. You might want to have someone look at the DVD player if it keeps up. Check with other DVD's and see what happens.

I've had that problem too with dvd's. I first clean the dvd, new or not, and then clean the player as good as I can and then play it again and see what happenes. Usually it clears it up.
The dvd player could be getting warm, it's happened to me before.

You should clean your DVD player. And your DVDs. Then try again; and that should do it!

I have never had any problems with mine ever thank god or else I would scream... I use to have trouble playing dvds on my playstation2 but then thats why I went out and bought a seperate dvd player. I highly recomend any panasonic dvd player. That all we have in our house and they work great. I definately do not recomend any JVC dvd players... man do they suck.

When I watch Sleeping Beauty I will let you know if anything like this happens. It it turns out to be the Dvd, Disney will replace it for you.

Ok this morning i watched the dvd, the dvd player makes a load noise throughout the menu until you click on watch the film and then the noise goes away.

Also i kept playing the menu a little bit and it seems now that it isnt freezing at all in the menu, i'll clean the dvd player somehow as i think its got something to do with its trying to hard to read the dvd if you get me. It cant be the disc and its brand new and the film is fine and the bonus features are also fine.

Just tried disc 2 and that works fine, no load noises.

I have some discs that do strange whirly sounds as the DVD players laser tries to read the TOC or other parts.

I also have 2 DVDs that clicking on the menues dont send them to the selected movie or short and i have to input the direct acces number or play Jedi mind tricks on them.

Some DVD discs might be a little bit near to the border of manufacturing tolerance, and some DVD players might be too, or getting out of alignment (ya know the laser's servo focus and other neat-o teachie stuff) or both things could happen at the same time. You should check how the disc plays on other machines, going to a friend, etc. to make sure whenever a disc acts strange it doesn't warrant an exchange

DVD's don't always agree with all players.

My old, old player seemed to dislike "fancy menus," and acted in a very similar way to what yours did. My eventual answer to that was buying a new player. The price of them is getting more and more reasonable anyway.

I haven't had any problems since.

Andy, in order to clean a DVD player, all you need to do is buy a DVD cleaning disc, which you'll probably find in a supermarket. They're like the video cleaning tapes of long ago...

This is probably the worst advice you could ever give someone regarding "fixing" a DVD player's loader/drive. Those tiny bristles on the cleaning disc scrape away at the laser's lens to clean it!

No, I would (in this order), either: 1. upgrade the DVD loader/drive's firmware (the easiest thing to do), 2. take out and disassemble the loader/drive and clean the laser lens with isopropyl alcohol and a clean swab of cotton (difficult to do, but it can be done if you have good mechanical skills), or 3. sell it and get a new (better) DVD player.

Of course, if you're up to option #3, then maybe "cleaning" your lens with a commercial cleaning disc (AAARRRRGGGH! -- imaging fingernails scratching a blackboard here) is an option if you don't plan on selling your player to anyone (like pitching it into the garbage, for example).

It kind of sounds like a player problem. As the technology involved in building DVD's rises, the older players get left behind and have hard times with new fangled discs. I'm not sure what make/how old your player is, but it may be on the borderline.

If you are to get a new one, stick with some of the bigger names (Someone here mentioned Panasonic, I would second that and add Pioneer (makers of the amazing DVD/DVD-A/SACD/VCD/SVCD Player the DV-356A) to the pile as well, as their manufacturing quality is very high

Im not sure what it is, i still havent played the disc on any other player so tomorow i'll put it in the one downstairs and see what happens.

If it does exactly the same thing then i know its not my dvd player which means its the dvd. TBH if it is the dvd i dont think i can be bothered to send it back to play.com recorded delivery and i wouldnt get a new one probably for 2-3 weeks. It doesnt affect the film or the special features it just makes a very loud noise on the menus which is strange....

Anyway do i or dont i buy one of those cleaning discs? Some say to then others say they are not good ahhhhhhh help lol!

Andy I am not saying to send it back to the place you purchased it from. On the disn there should be a tol free number. Disney itself will replace the Disc for you, but its up to you. As for cleaning the player I rather just wipe it with a clean cloth then spening money on a disc that cleans it. I mean heck Dvd player are so cheap to buy now a days that I can just by a new one if it goes bad.

I rather spend $200 one time and get a whole new Dvd player that will be better than my old one " they keep on getting better " Then to kept on buying cleaning disc for $20 and kept the old player which even with the cleaning disc will not last forever I guess. But the choice is yours. I purchased one of those cleaning disc and wished I had not, it did not seem to do much for my old Dvd player, I don't even want to put it in my new one I would say the best thing to do though of course would be to ask someone around where you live who knows a lot about Dvd players, someone you can trust. I would not try asking the store if those Dvd cleaning disc are good, because they might just want to sell you the product

I just tried the dvd downstairs on a different dvd player and i noticed that that player also made a slight noise throughout the menu, but no where near as loud as my dvd player when viewing the menu, heck if you wernt listening out for the noise you wouldnt hear it, but on mine damn you can!

Flowers Friend, thanks for the advice, i dont mean to sound rude but i dont think us in the UK get that sort of thing from Disney we dont really get a number or anything that you can call and nope we cant request slipcovers are stuff either grrrrrrrr.........

Well i dont think im going to send the dvd back to play.com as i cant be bothered, it doesnt do it when the films on so im not to fussed. But thanks for all the advice!

I did not think you where rude at all. I am sorry since I guess they don't do that for you in the United Kingdom, but as long as you are happy with the Dvd that is cool. I really like that movie, have you watch that bonus feature about the person who directed the music it was really awesome, I think its on disc two, my mind is blank so I can't think of his name ?

Sometimes DVD's on my machine make a whirring noise during the menu screens, but this stops when I start to play the actual film.

The DVD player in the living-room sometimes freezes up (I find this is due to overheating, hence when I want to watch a long film uninterrupted I move my bedroom machine into the living-room).

Different machines react to certain discs. There are some DVD's that play up on one machine, but are perfect when played in the another.
