Is $120 a Good Deal for the 4pak Tin Disney Treasures?????

Post by jayaraiza »

I'm trying to figure out if i wana spend $120 actually a few more bucks even more than that including shipping, for the multi-pak Disney Treasures that DMC is offering. I only learned of these DVD's a few months ago. I've never actually watched one before though. Is it just a kinda medley of Disney Shorts from way back when. Also i realize that this multi-pak is a collection of the i guess discontinued DVD's. Oh and the cover are also tin. I guess what i'm getting at is that i kinda would like to hear what these Disney Treasures DVD's are about before i purchase this rather expensive collection. Any input or advise would be greatly appreciated :D [/b]

I think it is. MILC is going for about 80-90 dollars on e-bay at the moment. the others not so high, but if you really want them, especially for their collector's value, I would get them. 120 is not bad considering they run, when they are in the stores for 25 or more each.

$120 is by far the best you can do on the set of all four. "Mickey Mouse in Living Color" alone is going for around $75-$90 on eBay, and cannot be found in any firsthand stores at this point. "Silly Symphonies" goes for at least $40. And the other two are around $25-$30 on eBay and Amazon. I suspect a lot of the interest in these sets is the rare factor/collectibility of them.

As for whether they're something you'll like and want to watch again and again, that really depends. The Silly Symphonies and Mickey Mouse in Living Color are collections of shorts, very old shorts. Some might find them an acquired taste, but their historical importance is undisputed. Davy Crockett was a very popular TV series in the '50s, and people seem to have very fond memories of it. Disneyland U.S.A. is a collection of TV programs aired on the building and progress of the Disneyland park.

I'll let others comment on the quality. Funny enough, we're ALWAYS talking about Treasures, yet doing a search for them doesn't turn up too much on what's on the non-animated discs or if people watch them often and like them.

Thank you so much Luke. You pretty much answered my question. I kinda figured that these Disney Treasures were a collection of all that old school stuff i use to stay up and watch since i was a baby , i believe it was like every Sunday night on ABC at 7pm. Is anybody here old enough to remeber that? LOL... oops showing my age here huh? Gotta take a low blow shot here and say i rather enjoyed Walts little personal camera time on those Wonderful World Of Disney nights, as opposed to Eisner :P

Just to chime in ....

It's DEFINITELY worth it for a number of reasons, but here is my rationale.

I already have all four tins. My goal is to sell the MMiLC tin for around $80 (I'm out $40 for the Tins), then trade the other three for three of the new Wave 3 releases. Then I'll spend $25 to get the 4th at The Disney Store. (OR -- I could probably get my $$ back by selling both MMiLC and SS.)

That comes out to $65 out of my pocket for the four Wave 3 Discs, or $16.25 per Tin. That's my main motivation. And if I can get a bit more for the MMiLC Tin, then my cost goes even lower. I was fully prepared to spend $100+ for the Wave 3s, so this helped me lower that amount substantially.

Why would you sell MMiLC if it is so worth buying the DVDs? I would save them, if I was you. I wish I had actually bough some of the Treasure sets now....

Well, I did say it was worth the tag for a number of reasons and illustrated one of them. Another reason would be the fact that you would have a copy of MMiLC (for around $30) that you could save watch as its value rose even higher.

Okay... I guess. I keep all my DVDs, and I've never bought something I plan on selling, except my Star Wars Kit Fisto action figure :)

I haven't either so this is unchartered waters for me too.
But I've been kicking around the idea of joining the Disney Movie Club and this offer was what did it for me.

I was almost going to buy the set off someone here on the forum, but the price for me was too high (even though the offer was actually quite generous, I should add, I couldn't afford it at that time).

It is a shame that these things command so much money. The Living Colour tin at $80-90 US is just ridiculous market price IMO. These are things that should be available everywhere as they are part of Dinsey history.

I sincerely hope they get rereleased, or someone just gives me one (like a mystical fairy of some sort granting me three wishes).

I'm sure that they will be rereleased. All Disney movies will be re-released (except perhaps Song of the South).

OMG! That is a ton of money for a tin! Then again I suppose Amazon merchants are STARTING their prices at $104.
Absolutely ridiculous!

Loomis it IS ridiculous, however if people are willing to pay that amount ....

I actually have a 2nd FULL set of all the Tins (well, almost all -- just need a 2nd Goofy). The first set was bought for enjoyment, the second based on what's going on in the market with these things. If I can invest, say $175 on these and possibly turn around and sell them for $400+ in the next month or so, I will. That money would be used to fund my future Disney and DVD purchases, especially concerning the HUGE list I have for through December.

It just means I'm less likely to be getting the first Color set anytime soon :P

But I suppose if people are willing to pay that much.

I can't talk really. I'm an avid comic collector, and the prices I've paid for individual issues...ouch. I cringe thinking about it now, but still...

One HAS to have a complete collection, doesn't one? :P

Hopefully they will be re-released somewhere, and I can fill in my two gaps (Symphonies and Color 1).

And after statements like that last post, Loomis blames me for talking him into buying discs? His mind was pretty made up before he even started conversing with me.

Oh as Loomis you didn't Davy Crockett after all did you? I see it's not mentioned in your 'gaps'. You can't blame me for that if you did!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I'm Australian! I have to keep blaming the English for something. :D

As for Davy Crockett - it wasn't mentioned in my 'gaps' as I'm not THAT keen to get it. Maybe if I really NEED it....

Holidays ARE coming....hmmm.....
