This movie is made for the big screen, and if you watch it on a computer screen or anything smaller than 32" widescreen television set you aren't getting all the effects and grandeur of the film.
If I had a choice, I would watch this movie, and I do, in its non-anamorphic glory, rather than a chopped from the sides and top 'square' screen.
Billy Campbell and Jennifer Connoley are an amazing couple in the movie, and with its setting in the late 30's, it is perfect for some of the goofiness that comes with that era. The opening car chase is amazing in widescreen, and the opening of the movie itself is even better.
I will agree that it does get a little over-hyped, but it is still a movie worth having in your movie collection and the Blu-ray will mark the first time that we will get to see a full anamorphic widescreen version of the film.
