Re: Mufasa: The Lion King (Live-Action)

It definitely reads to me like he was speaking to The Lion King as a larger mythology while still keeping the animated film as its face, the thing we are here to discuss. I spotlight his response here because it's a bit of a change of pace for the creative team of one of these remakes to build their...

Re: Mufasa: The Lion King (Live-Action)

I read a description that the framing device of the movie is Rafiki in the present relating the story of Mufasa’s youth to a young Kiara through flashbacks. So I am guessing that’s how Beyoncé and the rest of the cast from the first film will reappear here. I guess that makes sense. Can't decide wh...

Re: Kingdom Hearts (Animated Series)

Well, to get one thing out the way, Disney is developing an animated Kingdom Hearts movie. While years back I had heard the idea was to do something on Disney+, more recently I have heard the goal would be big screen adaptation, but as of now, these are just rumblings and nothing has been greenlit....

Re: Mufasa: The Lion King (Live-Action)

I would have much rather seen Lin do the music for Moana 2, but I generally like him, and I suppose this movie could use all the help it can get. Some of the snapshots of the trailer were interesting, but this whole movie still feels like Disney is just doing someone a favor. Anyways, Beyonce is in ...

Re: Hercules (Live-Action)

I'd imagine they've probably seen several scripts, they just haven't landed on one that Disney likes. What they're even looking for with this remake has probably been in flux over the last few years with Disney needing to rethink how they want to even handle their remake train. Anyways, didn't Ritch...

Re: Wish

People also just see Wish, and most of Disney's 2023 output, as an outlet for their general frustration toward the Disney company during its victory lap throughout the 2010s. Everyone who's been saying all along that Disney films are all just syrupy sentiment and no plotting are NOT missing their op...

Disney Scrapped Their Show. An Unlikely Champion Saved It. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/25/arts/television/the-spiderwick-chronicles-roku.html The series originated at Apple TV+ more than five years ago, with Barry Sonnenfeld attached to direct. When Sonnenfeld left in 2020, Coleite replaced him...

Re: The most underrated Disney animated movie of all time

I guess it depends on which crowd we're talking about. Underrated by fans, underrated by the general public, underrated by the Disney Company itself, etc. Disney fans have been rallying behind "Hunchback" and "Treasure Planet" as being underrated for years now, such that it doesn...

Re: The Spiderwick Chronicles

Finished the first season last night, and I think there's some good stuff here, enough that I'd be willing to follow it across multiple seasons. I enjoyed the books, and the movie, when I was a kid, but I don't think I was ever as obsessed with this property as I was Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or ...

Re: Most anticipated Disney movie of 2025

Sotiris and PatchofBlue, how come you're not excited for Zootopia 2 ? Not judging, just curious! I really loved the first one, and I think the potential for a compelling sequel is certainly there, I just don't have great faith in Disney's ability at the moment, particularly where sequels are concer...

Re: Wish

I actually kinda liked Asha defeating the villain through a song in concept, and even teared up a little when I realized that's how they were playing it. I think I would have liked it MORE in a stronger movie and with a stronger song, but I think this is one of those rare moments where you see the m...

Re: Is Disney's Revival Era Over?

Yeah, I don't think we're doing anyone any favors by rushing to brand the last two films of Disney animation as any new era. If Moana 2 and next year's animated film do gangbusters, we'll probably just revert back to "Revival Era round 2" or something. We'll need a few more entries to know...

Re: Wish

Strange World had a very strong green message, another thing that stoked the furies of the alt-right. I don't think the message was the problem in and of itself, but rather the way it was executed. Wall-E, Happy Feet, and FernGully also had strong green messages, but they were much more successful ...

overall agree with your points.   What makes Strange World way worse for me than Wish is, while Wish had a plot and a message, a very, veryyyyyyyyy vague and basic message, Strange World had literally no real conflict or message attached to it. Its as if they asked AI to make a scifi m...

Also regarding the mother, when I saw Enchanted again a few months ago, I was confused when Robert told Giselle about his wife, I always thought he said she died, but apparently she moved away or something, still not sure. :| I'll confess, I'm actually not sure either. He says "She left,"...

Re: Enchanted on Stage?

I'd love to see the story expanded with a stage adaptation, but the film has some specific devices that would make adaptation tricky. The jump from animation to live action would be lost, for one. Also, spontaneous singing is supposed to be a unique facet Giselle and Andalasia, so I have no idea how...
