Re: Tiana's Bayou Adventure

The "years of public" outcry thing is a bit of a hard sell for me. I obviously can't account for everything anyone has ever said on the internet, but I tend to follow Disney Parks dialogue pretty closely, and the "Song of the South" connection was never more than an auxiliary pie...

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)

But part of the reason it hasn't being raking in cash is the lack of compelling original content. Their back catalog alone hasn't been enough on its own. They did say early on they would be operating at a loss for a while anyway, but they do expect to be profitable as early as this year is what I t...

Re: Modern day references in Disney features

I wonder also if movies are more likely to feel dated if you live through the period yourself and then look back on it years later. Like, watching "Princess & the Frog," I'm taken out of the movie for just a moment every time I get to the part where Facilier tells Lawrence, " Fun ...

Re: Wish

I think that’s deliberate. Disney thinks the streaming service is cutting into their box office, so they’re going to begin widening the gap between theatrical and streaming. It’s a shame they didn’t do this before— it would have been much smarter to have started this with Elemental which got better...

Re: Iwájú (Disney+ Series)

The animation still looks more plastic than I want, but seeing it in movement reminded me of a slightly more fluid "Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous" on Netflix, which I liked, so that's a reasonable starting point.

Re: The new Princesses being excluded from the lineup

Glad to see Ariel representing as usual, though kind of surprised to see Moana so low given how she's arguably the most popular princess of the new age (maybe Elsa?)

Re: Disney Princess Criticism - What's Your Opinion?

Well, it makes sense why there would be studies since the films are aimed at children and film for better or worse does play a role to some degree in a child's life. I think that's the same reason conservatives get angry about LGBT characters or whatever, that they're afraid a LGBT character might ...

Re: Is Disney's Revival Era Over?

I always had the feeling the Revival era ended once they had their movies that failed in every way with both Box Office performances and critics, starting with Strange World and later on Wish. Sure, it doesnt automatically make the movie good, but Raya has a 93% and 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes fro...

Re: Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV Series)

Deserved, in my opinion. Even as I thought some parts of the show worked better than others, I still enjoyed the first season and would love to see this cast go all the way.

Re: Moana 2

Wow. Disney literally waited right until I was on my double-shift to drop all the big announcements. I'll have to take some time to wade through this all. For now, though ... No part of me is buying the "we shoved this tv series into a movie slot because it was JUST THAT GOOOOOOOOOOD," cha...

Re: Turning Red

I just stumbled across the fact that this movie's re-release is coming up this weekend. Didn't learn this from any of the advertising. Was looking up possible showtimes for something else entirely and saw that Turning Red was technically on the menu, even though Pixar has done NOTHING to promote thi...

Re: Mufasa: The Lion King (Live-Action)

Still wishing the Aladdin sequel had been allowed to gain steam. That was a cast I would have loved to have spent more time with, which ... that shouldn't be an issue with The Lion King given just how tediously it followed the animated film.

Yeah, I think a lot of the direct-to-streaming films will be better off long-term for having tasted some kind of theatrical release.

Re: Rank the "Experimental era" 2000-2008 movies

I also love the magical sequences! :) but what do you think could have been slightly improved? My guess would be the reindeer things as they were fun but didnt really serve the plot. I think Rut and Tuke could have maybe been fine tuned a little more, but they don't really bother me that much. I wa...

Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2023

I would have happily taken Suzume over Nimona, but I'm just glad that Elemental made the cut. Don't need it to win, I just would have been fuming if its detractors had been given more ammunition.

1. Lilo & Stitch 2. Treasure Planet 3. The Emperor's New Groove 4. Atlantis: The Lost Empire 5. Fantasia 2000 6. Brother Bear 7. Meet the Robinsons 8. Bolt 9. Dinosaur 10. Home on the Range 11. Chicken Little 10 & 11 are the only bad ones, I'd say. Dinosaur is just kind of bland. Beyond that...

Re: Raya and the Last Dragon

Yeah ... this kind of reads like a bunch of half-truths being weaponized to kick Disney when it's down and/or create sympathy for Lasseter, which we have continued to see even through established and prominent outposts. I suppose Lee is as liable as anyone to be a tyrant behind closed doors, but for...
