Re: Pixar's Gatto
So Pixar's going a hand drawn route (or style)? Interesting.

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
Agreed. Even Tony Bancroft admitted that there was no source.
That said, the 2D cleanup internship is still a small step.
BTW, Light of the World just issued an all new music video. It sounds like your typical pop ballad from the 90's, but it fits very well IMO.

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
There WAS a recent article which stated Disney MIGHT bring back hand-drawn, but that was all just a rumor, and according to Tom Bancroft, currently not in the pipeline. They are doing the 2D cleanup internship, though, so that's something. Realisitcally, though, Iger has to go, and more importantly,...

Re: Bob Iger is Back!!!
At this point I'm pretty much done with Iger. They need to get better executives who believe in creativity, and not just bean-counting. This is getting so damn tedious, and the fact that they are so out of touch with their audiences is something that needs to be called out. Also, jettisoning 2D anim...

Powerline concert 360° experience.
Technically not by WDFA, but this is still awesome. It's very refreshing to see a 2D tribute to this underrated classic. A Goofy Movie is a fave. And the "I 2 I" song is still very catchy.

Re: Sean Bailey Left Disney
David Greenbaum could be alright, let’s wait and see. Calling Fox Searchlight ‘indie’ is a bit of a stretch though. I guess it is by Hollywood’s definition of the term, but this studio churns out nothing even remotely independent. It’s a standard legacy studio. And Greenbaum has overseen some stell...

Re: Pocahontas Discussion
I'm 50-50 on Pocahontas . On one hand it DOES take a lot of liberties with factual history and anyone who knows the real story will obviously know that nothing that happened in this retelling is accurate. I also think that on the spectrum of the Disney classics, it's kinda inbetween. I also felt the...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
It's lovely. It should have been made. Speaking of which, I did do a bit of a dig into what's going on with that 2D Cleanup Training Intern Disney's doing this year, and it sounds like, from what the head of the project, Rachel Bibb, says that this is a case of them "testing the waters." h...

Kindly seek professional help, thedisneyspirit / Lavendergolden / ameneth. Oh yeah, who ARE these guys and what the heck are they doing bringing such ghastly topics into these threads? I find their comments disgusting. I also agree with PatrickvD and Kyle about the way things are now. I'm not at al...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
I think we need to wait a bit more for more of the trailer before we can truly be the judge of that, but I honestly had a different reaction. It might be somewhat different from The Prince of Egypt , but in many ways The Light of the World carries much of the same qualities as that movie. Its animat...

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
Agreed. If we want 2D to be mainstream again we need to support it whenever we can. More importantly, the film has to be GOOD. The Boy and the Heron proved it could be possible because it WAS a good movie, and from an acclaimed director. Both of those worked in its favor. War of the Rohirrim, howeve...

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
That's why it's ultimately on other animated films to bring back hand drawn animation. Again, The Light of the World is a good candidate.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
Like I said, the only way for that to happen is for 2D animation to be a trend again. Again, there are features coming out this year which have the potential to do that.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
On-topic: I have mixed feelings about the interview. It's unfortunate that there isn't a lot of 2D animators left at Disney, but on the other hand, if they really do wanna start it up again (like Goldberg said they wanted to back in 2022), then of course it's going to take time. It takes years to bu...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
The only way things can change at all is for 2D animated movies to start becoming a thing again. The Boy and the Heron proved that it could be done. The Day The Earth Blew Up and The Light of the World as well as Aang: The Last Airbender are also in the pipeline. On the other hand, War of the Rohirr...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
Trailer for Light of the World is out. https://www.instagram.com/p/DCR1msEvVit/ The reactions to it on YouTube are quite positive, which is reassuring. The concept of a Jesus animated feature is something that has yet to be done. I do have Prince of Egypt vibes from this, although of course not as ...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
The execs need more than one or two hand drawn movies doing well to bring it back, it has to be an ongoing trend. Exactly, it's not just gonna be a one-shot deal. It's gotta be constant. The Boy and the Heron was very much successful for a Ghibli release. But not just The Day The Earth Blew Up , bu...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
If it helps, I did find a video with Jennifer Lee being interviewed about that question. She did say, "Never say never." That said, she also doesn't reveal anything that we don't already know, but... take it as is.
