No, it was never meant to be seen in 1.66:1, only 1.75:1 ratio. Umm... at least 95% of the Disney theatricals presented in 16:9 are matted in 1.66:1 format. Here's a side-by-side comparison from "Bedknobs & Broomsticks." http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u227/kresblain/bedknobs-133.j...

Of course I would rather watch them in there correct ratio, but for some reason with with those Disney films, I prefer the Open Matte versions, as there is more picture, and for some reason with animation, i hate the idea of someone's hard work, being chopped off to make a widescreen print. ;) That...

There's no need to fear, tooniac. And there's also no need to re-buy? Why? Because Bambi , like many films from the forties and early fifties was made before widescreen was introduced into film making, so you don't have to worry about what's missing at the sides, as nothing is!
