Re: Kilala Princess
Did the original release sell that well for Tokyopop? There's no way the original Japanese artist will be involved in this when she moved from Kodansha to Shogakukan over four years ago.

I'm...fine with the angular designs. It's the poor color design that bothers me.

John Oliver cast as Zazu. John Oliver Joins Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Lion King’ (Exclusive) http://www.thewrap.com/john-oliver-joins-live-action-lion-king-zazu-bird-exclusive/ I was excited to learn about this but it looks like most of the rest of the cast is comparatively questionable. Rhet...

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
kiseki, what is the backstory to that video? Was it a school production filmed ("Mulan Jr.?")? Was it a tv special? Did they do the whole film? No idea. That YT channel has (re)uploaded a number of film reproductions exclusively starring children. They filmed their own musical take on the...

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
It doesn't make sense to me. There are already a fair number of serious, live action Chinese Mulan adaptions, so why remove everything unique to the animated Disney film in the live action remake of the said film? Where's the appeal in another Mulan adaption that doesn't stand out in that mainland C...

Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2016
Makoto Shinkai has a problem, a big problem. His mystical teenage body-swap movie “Your Name.” has become such a massive hit it’s beginning to worry him. “It’s not healthy,” the boyish director says. “I don’t think any more people should see it.” Every week it gets closer to being the biggest Japan...

Re: Kilala Princess
Tokyopop is releasing a new manga series by the same artist of "Kilala Princess" called "Magical Dance!". It consists of two volumes with the first one being released on June 06, 2017. What the heck. This doesn't make any sense. This is an 8-year-old tie-in manga for an arcade g...

Re: What's the biggest cheap Disney rip-off?
That reminds me of how the Go! Princess Precure musical included a Snow White and a Sleeping Beauty (and a Kaguya). Snow White's design deviated a little from its Disney inspiration, but the Sleeping Beauty pretty much had the exact same design as Aurora. Also not sure if relevant, but everyone look...

I know that the focus is on Lin-Manuel Miranda, but Mark Mancina was truly the winner of the soundtrack here. His score is exquisitely peak 90s-Disney while still fitting the setting perfectly. It met my expectations from his excellent work on Tarzan . I also forgot how much I missed backing choirs...

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
Also the animated Mulan did take place in the Tang Dynasty. It was confirmed in the audio commentary and also in an article that labeled it in the 7th century which is also like this new film. The actual movie takes elements of so many dynasties though so it's a medley. That's interesting. I know t...

Re: Disney Announces Live-Action Mulan Remake
I would've preferred it to be closer to the animated movie since serious live action Mulan adaptions already exist. Fantastical elements can be removed, sure, but I definitely care less without the songs.

Of course he won't. We already saw from TP&TF that he did not take responsibility for his own interference with M&C by forcing them to follow the buddy roadtrip structure and use Newman. He blamed hand-drawn animation, fairy tales, and Randy Newman. They would've followed the buddy roadtrip...

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney
Or at least, "the next Miyazaki" should only apply from a western perspective where he's the only anime director embedded in the mainstream conscious, but you make a fair point. It's just that it sounds as silly as "the next Disney" does. Will there only be one "next Miyazak...
