"Lilo & Stitch shows that Disney can be contemporary without having to
stray too much from the accepted "Disney Formula". I actually think it has
more in common with films like 101 Dalmatians or The Rescuers than most
people seem to notice. All feature strong central stories and don't rely on
the traditional musical sequences or staging. Lilo is
retro-classic with a modern edge. What more could we ask for?"
"When you watch Lilo & Stitch, you can feel that the film was a labour of
love for all the artists and animators who made it. It doesn't have a
very complex outline or dazzling special effects (compared to Tarzan and Fantasia 2000), but the film doesn't need that. Lilo & Stitch never tries
to be what it isn't - it is simply a story about a little girl who adopts an
alien as a friend. Lilo & Stitch proves that you don't need moving
backgrounds or fancy computer graphics to have a great movie - it has all
the ingredients that made Disney films of the past like Dumbo and Bambi
so special. And most important of all, it has lots of heart."
"I love it for its warmth (of the watercolors, the story), the lush, simple
visuals, the energy. And the unique characters, both Lilo and Stitch, and how
they deal with their loneliness (and their differences), to become a family in
the end."
"After two disappointments, it was incredibly refreshing to see Lilo & Stitch - a film that dared to go against the Disney formula while remaining faithful to the spirit of the studio. The title characters and their relationship is what really drives the movie and gives it its emotional force. You find yourself caring for and understanding them, their moodiness and imperfections. Its a testament to the films emotion that I simply cannot watch it without crying at least once. Lilo & Stitch is a wonderful film that reaffirms that Disney can still capture the magic when they want to!"
