Jungle Book 2 - a Classic?

Did you notice that The Jungle Book 2 is released as part of the Walt Disney Classics in Europe?
What is the logic behind this?

Yes it's a shame that it has the word "Classic on this piece of unimagination. But in Europe yuo got to differenciate the classics which regroup the sequels and others productions and the "Grands Classiques" which regroups the real classics form WDFA like Treasure Planet, Lilo and Stitch. The Platinum are called "Chef-d'oeuvres" in France.

I never bother about the Disney titles myself - not all of their masterpieces are... er... masterpieces in my own opinion. It's all just studio hype. A Goofy Movie has no labelling but is superior to lots of films which do. All the labels mean in actuality is that Walt Disney Feature Animation worked on the film.
No film is automatically a classic, a masterpiece or anything else. And it has nothing to do with who made the film. Just ignore it.

I was mainly surprised by this because until now, the title Classic has referred to the numbered, "official" animated features (with the exception of the five live action/animation combination films). The Jungle Book 2 is not one of them, is it?
I don't think most of them are classics in the actual meaning of the word, but some are.
(Before someone asks, the five live action "classics" are The Song of the South, So Dear to My Heart, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks & Pete's Dragon.)

I think by the time its actually released the "Classics" logo will be gone and replaced with a walt disney pictures presents one instead. The same thing happened with Lady and the Tramp 2.

This should not be called a classic. If I ran Disney I would be ashamed to have anything to do with this monstrocity.

I agree with Kim, I watched it for the third time today. It keeps little kids entertained, which is what it's meant for, and I enjoyed it too.
And frankly, no one ever thinks of "The Aristocats" as a "Masterpiece" or "Classic" do they? Because it was made to be Lady and the Tramp meets 101 Dalmatians cat style.

Disney's 'classics'/'masterpieces' are self proclaimed - which might be true of many of them, but it is fairly arrogant of Disney to proclaim that their new film is their latest 'classic' or 'masterpiece'.
Having not seen JB2, I can't comment on its quality. But there is no reason any film can't be considered a classic - as long as Disney wants to call it such, so it is written - so shall it be!

Loomis, I love Aristocats also, don't get me wrong! I just never think of it as a "Masterpiece", it fit under "Gold Collection" much better in my opinion.

Oh I dig that...Aristocrats isn't one of my all-timers either (still love it), but all i'm saying is that the whole Masterpiece/Classic/Gold Collection/Platinum thing is a self-proclaimed thing by Disney anyway. Oh, sorry, I wasn't trying to criticize it. I really love it a lot. It's a great film. I never think of it as a "Classic" that will live on forever, like I do of Snow White or Beauty and the Beast. Hmm... well, maybe JB2 really is a Classic... of course that's only Disney's thinking. Frankly, I only think of the Fairy Tales as true "Classics"... but I love the rest of them.

This is ridiculous... now [cheap] sequels are labelled "Classics"!! 
Here in Brazil too! Just look at the cover arts!
Yeah, I know that not all the "classics" are real classics, but at least this trend used to refer to the A-list of Disney films... now, any film that the company release is labelled a "classic"! Shame on you, Disney!

The use of the "classic" label has changed.
In the future (starting with The Junglebook 2), all disney movies shown in cinemas will be a "classic" when released on DVD.
The real classics will (at least in Denmark) also have a classic number on the spine.
