Ryan, a Disney Home Theater Mix is not a restoration, is a remixing :P

Hope they do it AND also include the preserved/restored original :)

Little Mermaid PE will be interesting to see how they do it cus if i'm not mistaken only the end was done in CAPS so the rest would have to be a Snow White type restoration/digitalization clean up job. So the Little Mermaid is an hybrid! half film half digital half grains half pixels half fish half girl!

ok i'll shut up now :twisted:
Look forward to it.

* A Pristine Transfer (like Deathie said, this should be interesting since the film is partially print and partially digital)

* A Commentary Track

* A Fact Track (I really enjoyed Aladdin's)

* An extensive "making of" (either branching together various video features ala Aladdin or something more straightforward ala Snow White) that has:
- Both recent and archival interviews (including the voice cast, which Lion King and Mulan were lacking)
- Footage from the recording studio
- Live-action reference footage
- Tests (color tests, pencil tests, etc.)
- Inspiration for the music

* Some sort of general Disney feature. Snow White had Disney Through the Decades, Beauty and the Beast had The Story Behind the Story, The Lion King had various clips on Disney and animals/Animal Kingdom, and Aladdin had Alan Menken: Reinassance Man. I like seeing features like these that cover Disney films or a Disney topic in general.

* Storyboard to Film Comparison

* Song Demos

* Deleted Scenes and Songs (Little Mermaid has a ton of these)

* Extensive Galleries (I'm hoping for the return of the Virtual Galleries, but that seems unlikely, though we could be seeing these again for the older films like Cinderella where an Art Review with the filmmakers just isn't possible)
- Concept Art
- Character Design
- Layouts and Backgrounds
- Ad Campaign
- Theme Parks

* Trailers and TV Spots (Snow White and Beauty and the Beast got this right; Aladdin only had a trailer and no TV spots, and Lion King had zilch)

And, of course, we'll be seeing some sort of virtual game along with a new music video or two. Making up dream specs is fun. :D

THis just about sums it up !!

I personally think the who movie should be redone in CAPS system, there are scenes that I think really need to be redone, I mean hey, they re-animated 40% of Aladdin, why not 90% of The Little Mermaid! Actually I realize that that is highly unlikely, but The Little Mermaid does seem to be Disney's most highly anticipated DVD, even more than the Lion King or Aladdin, or Cinderella. I truely can't believe how much this movie is ion demand. I predict when it is released it will out sell all the other Disney DVD's, if it does not, I will truely be surprised. I don't even know if Disney realizes what a gem they actually have... Seriously though, in regards to the picture, I really do think some scenes should be redrawn. I was watching Beauty and the Beast a few weeks ago, and just kept noticing scenes where things weren't drawn properly and it really annoyed me. It's a problem that all the movies, from Aladdin onwards, don't seem to have.

Really I just want a pristine picture, Amazing sound, Extensive Art Galleries (preferably animated), as well as an art review, and an enornous/extensive Making of, and much much more... oh and the alternate versions of Part of Your World and the Reprise...

- A pristine 1.66:1 anamorphic transfer
- A new DEHT 5.1 mix as well as the previous 5.1 tracks included on the previous DVD (English, French, and Spanish)
- Disney Song Selection
- Commentary by directors/screenwriters John Musker and Ron Clements
- Deleted sequences and/or songs (if they're still available)
- Theatrical trailers and TV spots
- Rough animated sequence comparison to finished scene
- An retrospective interview with Alan Menken on how he and Howard Ashman created the music for the film
- Interviews with Jodi Benson, Samuel E. Wright, and Pat Carroll
- A comprehensive making-of featurette (with index so that people can access a certain part if they so wish)

I think that's all I would like on the 2-disc set. 8)

Some people are posting that they want a DEHT mix for The Little Mermaid, but I don't think it will make a good use of the surrounds. Probably some of the music, and the climax at the ending but that's it. One thing I do agree, is that some scenes need to be redrawn. The movie looks great but it can also use some work in certain scenes, take under the sea for an example, if you really look at sebastian sing, he doesn't quiet follow the lyrics. Also Ariel looks a bit different at certain times, but nothing severe.
This is what I want the most- A pristine, beautiful, breathtaking restoration, it really needs it.

I'm looking forward to getting The Little Mermaid on Platinum DVD. I have it on video, but even the transfer of the film onto video is a load of crappy-crap-crap.

How about a feature about how this was disney's last film made using the ink and paint method. And looking at that method in depth and it's evolution since the 20s.

I definitely CANNOT wait for this release anymore. It's probably gonna have huge sales, given that:

1) It's one of Disney's most popular films ever.

2) It will be exactly 9 years since its last reissue in 1997 and that's enough time to rebuild the anticipation around it.

3) It's gonna be a Platinum release.

Personally I think the opening of TLM (where the film opens up with Prince Eric's ship sailing on the ocean) will make good use of the surrounds. And a DD 5.1 mix does much more than pep the movie with boomy bass and crisp dialogue, such as discrete surrounds and panning effects (like something flying from the right speaker to the left speaker). For instance, here were some nice discrete effects in the LE DVD of TLM, such as the explosion in Ursula's "Unfortunate Souls" sequence, where she throws something into the potion and it explodes and flows out.

But I do agree with you on the redrawn animation. Ariel does look slightly different in some shots, and it would be nice if the animators went in and properly redo it so that it won't be as obvious. But the movie does need a crisp and clean presentation, free of digital artifacts or print flaws. And the sound had better be better too. :D

I looked up the sound re-recording mixer for TLM, and like Mulan and Aladdin, TLM has the audio mixed by Terry Porter (who has done the sound for a lot of Disney live-action and animated films, including the Eloise and Santa Clause movies). And when the DVD is prepped for production, most likely with the aid of Porter, the DEHT re-mix will most likely sound good, if not great. 8)
