Assuming that the walt disney company was still making Vault Disney titles what would be the next 4 (2 - disc sets) that you think were worthy of a vault disney (now special edition) label?

I would pick
1- Song of the South
2- The Ugly Dachsund
3- That Darn Cat
4- The Shaggy Dog

i am bored, sorry if i wasted your time.

1. Song of the South
2. Mary Poppins
3. The Absent-Minded Professor
4. The Shaggy Dog

"Professor" was, I believe, the first all-live-action comedy Disney produced, and its success had a huge effect on the studio's future live-action output. As such, I'm surprised they gave it the colorized/no extras treatment.

My knowledge of the old Disney love action films is limited (I was always the animated film fan, still am), but there are a few I'd like to see Vaulted/Special Editioned:

1. Song of the South - just want it out on DVD in Widescreen! SE would be icing.
2. Darby O'Gill and the Little People - ditto above
3. Treasure Island - unlikely given the recent release, but this deserves better.
4. Mary Poppins - would just like to see a good SE that this crowd pleaser deserves. Bedknobs and Broomsticks deserves the same.

And goof ball - not a waste of time! This board lives for speculation.
And no post could be a bigger waste of time than the stuff I put up :P

Ahh - so you don't think the similar live-action/animation musical Pete's Dragon does? Sorry, just stirring it up!

I think that Bedknobs is a much better film than Poppins, but I accept Poppins is the most popular. So I would like to see both.

1. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
2. Mary Poppins
3. Honey I Shrunk The Kids (is there an age requirment on Vault titles?)
4. Something Wicked This Way Comes (which was actually a Touchstone release - but until just before release was supposed to be a Disney release). An excellent film - grab the Anchor Bay release if you can.

Song of the South - I already have a bootleg, but I'd very much like to have a clean, official release.
Mary Poppins - Great film, needs an upgrade on features.
The Shaggy Dog - And none of this colorized crap.
Babes In Toyland - only thing holding me back now is that it's in Pan & Scan.

Uh, Loomis, Song of the South came out original in 1946, which was still the days of plain old 4:3 ratio theater screens.

1. Song of the South
2. The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band
3. Follow Me Boys!
4. Summer Magic

But you know I can't stop at four.....

5. The Gnome-Mobile
6. Darby O'Gill and the Little People
7. Mary Poppins
8. That Darn Cat!
9. The Happiest Millionaire
10. Lt. Robin Crusoe USN
11. Bon Voyage!
12. The Absent-Minded Professor
13. The Shaggy Dog
14. Toby Tyler
15. Johnny Tremain
16. Treasure Island

Oh heck, they ALL deserve a special edition and I'll buy any 2-disc dvd disney puts out! (well, let me rephrase that: "i'll buy ANY dvd disney puts out")

it's a sickness i think, I just have to own them all!

2099net:

here in the states Something Wicked This Way Comes got a disney release to theaters AND to video all the way up until like 1994 or something when Disney sold the distribution rights to Anchor Bay. Was there a different release in the UK? If disney was afraid of tarnishig their name abroad, then maybe you'll be getting a Touchstone Pictures release of Pirates of the Carribean......

Sulley:
i think that the fullscreen is the original aspect ratio for Babes in Toyland. I'm not sure, because I don' know where to look for that info, but here's a few clues that make me think that.
1) The back of the box has NO small print saying this film has been modified from it's original version.
2) The titles display appropriately without any cutoff (this was a big hint that there was a cropping done on the blackbeard's ghost dvd....you couldn't even read everyone's name!)
3) This came out in like 1960 or something when very few movies from disney WERE widescreen.

my guess is that if it isn't in it's original aspect ratio, that it was only a 1.66:1 aspect ratio which doesn't make the film suffer that much. honestly the picture is the best it's looked and it has a dolby track. in my opinion the only reason not to get it would be to boycott the lack of features this dvd deserves including theatrical trailers and the walt disney presents episode devoted to this film. would it have been too much to ask for even an animated menu?

It's probably open-matte. By 1960, most movies were in widescreen, and from Disney's proper releases of their live-action titles, one gathers that most of their live action films were framed for 1.75:1. So, even if it's cropped, it's losing about 25% of the picture. And if composition looks okay, more likely it's simply a case of mattes being open.

But that still doesn't make it in the right ratio. But so few of Disney's older live action films do get presented properly on DVD, so it's either accept it or don't own the film. :(

I'd pick these for vault status or whatever it currently is...

1. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
2. Mary Poppins
3. The Absent Minded Proffessor (non-color version preferred)
4. The Shaggy Dog

and i would also like Apple Dumplin Gang to be a vault title.

1.Bedknobs and Broomsticks (Best disney live action film ever!)

In the Snow White "through the decades" feature, it was said that Shaggy Dog was the bigging of the live action comedy series. I would like to see this, as well as the 1994 remake on DVD, I have only ever seen the remake, and years ago, but it was funny and good.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a 2 disc SE Honey I Shrunk the Kids. I know it is too young to be Vault Disney, as that was a certain time period, and no movie theat came after that period would have that banner, if they were still doing it.
I too am an animation fan, so beyond that I really don't that much more about this genre of Disney. BTW Marry Poppins is suppose to be getting a 2 DISC SE this January.

My choices would be:

1. That Darn Cat! (Halley is great!)

2. Treasure of Matacumbe (watched it last night, and my VHS is dying!)

3. Holes (way too young, but I wish it would get a better release than just standard)

4. The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (to go with the Apple Dumpling Gang's first DVD release. I hate the Pan and Scan DVD I have!)

I would also want The Island at the Top of the World, The Happiest Millionaire (didn't get either of Anchor Bay's editions and the VHS tapes are wearing out) and a new Blackbeard's Ghost (not Pan and Scan this time!).
