HI GUYS DISNEY IS PUTTING THE SWORD IN THE STONE BACK IN THE VAULT ON 2-18-08. I GOT THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE MAIL FROM DISNEY CONSUMER RELATIONS ON THE DISNEY DVD AVAILABLITY LIST. WE ALL KNOW ABOUT ALL 3 ALADDINS AND CINDERELLAS WENT INTO THE VAULT ON 1-31-08, BUT THIS ONE IS ON 2-18-08 WHICH WAS NOT MADE PUBLIC!!! ITS GOING AWAY QUIETLY!!! I BELIEVE THEY ARE RETOUCHING THE FILM AND RELEASEING IT NEXT YEAR AS A SPECIAL EDITION, JUST LIKE ROBIN HOOD AND THE ARISTOCATS. JUST GIVING EVERYONE A HEADS UP ON THIS ONE!!

I'm willing to bet that this might actually be released on Blu-ray as well, if it is to be released a year from now. It'd be a good follow up to Sleeping Beauty.

The official "animated classics" link on the Disney DVD website (which merges the Pixar films with the established "canon" of WDFA numbered classics) seems to confirm this, as it is stating "not currently available" for Sword In The Stone.

It looks like Sword will be the next DAC to get the "out of print Gold Collection/new 2nd edition with slipcover" treatment.

Sorry guys I'm boycotting the Aristocats because it didn't come on Bluray and that's a big turnoff for me !
I'll be doing the same for the sword in the stone if it wasn't in bluray !
Hope you reading this BV !

Good. I just hope they do the same with Black Cauldron and all other Gold Collection versions still out on the shelf.

I wonder when the new version will come out though, it is a wonderful movie. I might double dip if it has some good special features. I agree that the Gold Collection's need to go away and be re-released!

Assuming that a new release will come from this, I'd say that it would come out about a year from now or a little bit longer. My guess would be close to Easter/Valentines Day. If not then I would definately say next summer.
On another field though, I feel that Disney will want to release another classic soon after Sleeping Beauty's PE release. They'll really need to puch the whole animated classics on Blu-ray thing, and unless the company has another release planned for around late fall/early winter then The Sword in the Stone might be it.
Another note should be that Finding Nemo is also being expected to be released on Blu-ray after Sleeping Beauty, so I'm going to stick to my first prediction.

It is NOT going to be a platinum edition, I can guarentee that.

This is old news. Best Buy broke this in December along with Alice going into the vault. They did list all going in on January 31 though.

They also still have to realease Pinocchio and Fantasia on PE along with Alice at some point (if Alice is a PE, as far as I know this still hasn't been clearly stated by the Disney company yet.)
Also, sadly, The Sword in the Stone in no way meets the requirements to be a platinum. We'd have much better luck seeing Pocahontas or Lilo & Stitch as a PE before The Sword in the Stone. By the way, I highly doubt Disney will add more Platinums, and I'm still in doubt about Alice even.

Maybe the Lilo & Stitch 2 disc edition will finally be released? I'd love to know the official reason for the delay now.Hunchback and Hercules might get special editions as well ala Mulan and Pocahontas?

I suspect we The Sword in the Stone will take this year's random November release (ala Robin Hood and Return to Neverland). I doubt it will be released on blu-ray, and I suspect it will be called the "Higitus Figitus" edition or some sort of crap like that.
Either way, unless it's 2-disc (with real bonus features, not just stupid games and read alongs) I wont double dip on this title.

It could be the 45th Anniversary Edition?
Sword deserves it!

I have the Gold Collection DVD and I must say it is one of the better "Gold" releases. Unless the image is much better (it doesn't have the best restoration) and it is filled with new bonus features, I probably won't double-dip. I mean it is a great film, one of my new found favorites, but I don't think that Disney will do anything special with it, even if it has it's 45th birthday (I mean, just look at FatH's 25th Anniversary DVD, it's hardly an upgrade).

Anyone know what's been cut from the Dissneyland episode on this disc as it runs just over a half hour and most episodes are 50 minutes? I've always wondered what is missing and why.

I don't know why Disney inculded the 1957 All About Magic special, the special has nothing to do with The Sowrd In The Stone, just a random piece to throw in to make it interesting Im geussing.
Didn't Walt host a special about The Sword In The Stone?

I have all the three "Cinderella" DVD's I own after it went back to the vault. "Sword in the Stone" is going to be back into the vault soon. I have my DVD-R copy recorded off of Toon Disney last year since I have the "Masterpiece" copy on VHS.

I think they included it because it had to do with magic and Merlin and Mim perform magic in the film.
Did Walt ever do a Mary Poppins episode? I find it hard to believe if he never did.
