The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning

You know, this is why it was a really good idea to make Athena look like Ariel: There's less chance that they designed Ariel's mother wrong. Ariel is a design from the original movie. If they're making a new character, they have to be sure she doesn't veer too much from how the original designers would make that character, if they had designed her. So by making her look like Ariel, basing her off a design they know the original designers wanted, then there's less chance Ariel's mother looks wrong!

I wonder if they tried to make her look a little like Ariel's sisters, too, because she does look different from Ariel, especially in the face.

Personally I think Triton should have the red hair, as he did in the series, and Athena's hair should be black, dark brown, or blond, like Ariel's sisters. It could be dark brownish blond. Also, Ariel, her sisters, and Triton all have blue eyes, but Athena has green ones! And, sorry, but I think her green eyes are a gross shade, and they look really bad with her red hair! But Ariel seems to have slightly brighter, greener eyes than her family, so maybe that brightness and greeness is supposed to come from Athena's bright green eyes.

As for their tails, I can accept that their tails can be completely different colors from either parent's tail, like maybe the tails reflect their personalities or something, but If they wanted to make Athena a little more different, and if they wanted to have Ariels' sisters' yellow and red tails come from somewhere, why not let Athena have an orange or red tail? Then we could see how some of Ariel's sister's tails have red in them in addition to the blue and yellow that comes from blue-green. And it might be neat to see a red tail match that red hair! Though no one in the family has an orange tail at all, so maybe she could have orange, which also would go with her red hair (red hair looks orange sometimes).

Not in this movie!!!

I know that in the original movie they all have blue eyes, but in this new movie all the sisters have different eye color:

Aquata has brown eyes
Andrina has green eyes

etc.

Well one month to go till Mermaid 3 hits stores and personally I cant wait. In Australia we arent getting it for a few more months which frustrates me to no end. Ive decided to just buy it internationally from Amazon cause I know my DVD player plays region 1 dvds. I've already waited a number of years for this title and I dont want to wait anymore. I havent been able to get 'I remember' out of my head for days!

Thank you Old Fish Tale for everything! I'm glad you like what I thought about Athena. And yea, I know Ariel's eyes are blue, but sometimes they look greenish blue.

Is there still going to be a music video on the DVD? Or Disney took that off? I read a music video was gonna be on the DVD but I don't see that anymore on the official website. Also will we get a soundtrack to this as well?

Old Fish Tale: Thank you for the links! I will drool as I watch these clips. Seriously . . . I will!

Wow, only a month more to go, and I finally have money to buy my copy when it comes out! Hurrah!

Anywho, the plot that I'm getting so far seems rather weak, but I sense it's leaning towards the whole father-daughter relationship similar to the original TLM. However, I'm loving the fact that Ariel's sisters are getting some more screentime this time around (and at least they look better than they did on TLM2 . . . GAH. It was horrible.).

Oh, did anyone else notice that Triton's daughters almost make a rainbow with the colors of their fins? (or is it their little mermaid shell bras? I can't remember . . .)

But yeah, I'm beginning to slightly doubt the Marina = Ursula theory now. Marina seems crafty based on what I have been told about her (and found out via the storybook and this thread), but it's becoming more of a chance that she's nowhere related to being Ursula, Morgana, or anyone else that we have met. (However, if she's another one of Ursula's sisters . . . HAH! That's would be interesting.)

And too bad Melody's not in AB - I really liked her character and personality in TLM2 (agreeing with a comment that someone else on here said - she was off-model most of the movie, most especially in the climatic scene against Morgana . . . what were her animators smoking when they drew her in those scenes?), but maybe she's just there in pictures, not in a speaking role . . . *crosses fingers* That would be nice to see, since it would be nice to have Ariel tell Melody about her mermaid heritage and all . . .

I love Ariel's song :D it's not Part Of Your World but it's wonderful :D.
Looks like Flounder is going to be annyoing :( they turned him into Thumper :(.
Marina is going to be really great (I can't say if her motive is good yet but she's great,Maleficent doesn't have a good motive neither).
I loved Ariel's animation, she looks really great and moves well and I loved how her hair moves when she talked to Flounder and when she asked Sebastian if he's sure that the place they"ll be.
The place where they were is the same place where Sebastian sang Under The Sea.
The Blowfish,Octopus and the Ray looks annyoing.

I agree with the thing about Flounder - I'd really like to know how this somewhat cowardly yet cute fish came from this music-loving rebel in the clips!

Now, comparing Flounder to Thumper in their respectful sequels/follow-ups/etc.: Thumper was cute in Bambi2, but more annoying because of the voice. Flounder, however, seems to only be a bit annoying in the one clip with them traveling. (ARGH, could someone slap him? He's like that annoying kid in the back seat of your car during a long road trip.) No offense, but AB's Flounder is an improvement from TLM2's older Flounder . . . he was weird-looking during the 12 years later scenes.

Oh, I just watched the clips - Ariel is lovely as always, a much needed improvement from "Return to the Sea," in which she looked like Ariel, yet didn't age as her daughter did. (She still looked 16-ish when she should have been near 30! *sigh* If only we all could do that . . .) Her animation suits her young vibrant personality, and could almost be superior to the original animation of her in TLM (the first one - but note, I only said "could almost" - that doesn't mean it is). I do agree that her singing voice is more matured than in the first, but it's also an improvement from the sequel.

As for the band, they're supposed to be annoyingly crappy - they're only minor characters that help with continuing the story's plot. (If you've read the book, you'll get what I mean.)

And as for Athena, is it just me, or did she sound more like Ariel than some new voice?

Of course, that's just what I think.

In the part where they"re going he's espically annyoing in the end of it but it was cute how he was hiding in the sand but the "Are we there yet?" was annyoing, also before Ariel talked to him.
Athena actually sounds like Attina and not like Ariel at all.
