Wow, that is an awful cover. I don't even think slipping Gromit in there can save it.

The 1st dvd edtion had the same cover art as the UK personaly I think Disney should've reused the orignal vhs cover

The cover art reminds me of droopy master detective. And the "Mystery in The Mist Edition" is on a banner, not even with the logo. Pretty bad.

Oh nice, I don't own this one yet. It's been a while since I got a new DAC.

You'd think disney would hire a cover artist that could actually DRAW the characters on model and not look like some cheap FHE cartoon movie to keep the kids busy, but its whatever considering this was one of my favorites growing up and I'm most certainly picking it up.

It's not so bad. Obviously designed with children in mind...bold, bright colors and a font framed and brightened to a level impossible to miss.

In any case, most people who love this movie have the previous release and can put the new transfer/restoration in that case of the new art is too much for them.

This Is sad.....coudl they at least change the position of the ghastly Mystery in the Mist Editoni like underneat the Magnifying Glass...maybe that would help....but.....this name edition is gotta be the worst name since The Big Top.....good god all they add is game?? and a Restoration?? This is my favorite Underated Disney Film......I use to watch this on VHS when I was little....ooh I loved that as much as I did dancing around the house to opening of Robin Hood....

I don't even wanna think what the Black Cauldron might have attatched as a stupidly named edition.....when its re-release comes.....and it better be 5 times better than this in the special features deparment......

At this point I just hope they will finally release the damn thing; I don't even care for the stupid subtitle they will attach to the new edition.

I don't hate the cover. It's okay.

I still don't plan on buying it, but whatever.

I have the old DVD, so I'll only get the new one if the UD review convinces me to, ha, since I'm too lazy right now to go check if the old DVD is in fullscreen or not. If it IS, then I'll definitely upgrade for the widescreen. The quality of the restoration and the new bonus features is what I'll be checking for besides that.

Incidentally, I never got the newest release of Aristocats and I forget, was that an upgrade from fullscreen to widescreen between the two DVD releases? I have the first, but I don't watch it too much. I like it, but it's not one of my top faves of the DACs. Still, I do need to get the newer one if it gives an aspect ratio upgrade. I have been trying to be careful about double dipping though, especially since Blu-Ray came out. I'm pretty glad I didn't double dip for Dumbo now that it is getting a Blu-Ray release. Didn't double dip for Robin Hood or a few others yet either. I DID eventually double-dip for Lilo though, and yet I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to Blu before a lot of others...

Then to your delight, the new special edition iis in widescreen instead of full screen which the Gold Collection Edition was. It was also confirmed in the aspect ratio thread that only the Special Edition presents the film in it's Original Aspect Ratio:
"The Aristocats" 1970 Premiere Release Information

"Mr. Exhibitor The Aspect Ratio For "The Aristocats" For Best Screen Quality Is 1.75 To 1."

(NOTE: Only the 'Special Edition' DVD release of "The Aristocats" presents the film in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.75:1)

I just pre-ordered on Amazon.com for $13.99. For that price, I can justify double-dipping, even for just one new bonus feature and a new transfer.

OK, not worth it. I'm not even going to bother wasting my money on a double-dip here. The old version wasn't perfect, but it was good enough, and this isn't too much of an improvement.

Olivia is apparently a chipmunk, on the cover, and Basil's actually doing the limbo, while Dawson thinks that he shouldn't have eaten those magic mushrooms..... And don't get me started on the editon name.

Oh boy. Now I'm really excited for "The Black Cauldron: Munchies and Crunchies Editon."

I think the new cover is just okay. I personally prefer the original 1992 VHS cover, maybe because it shows Ratigan. The same thing with the original 1998 VHS of "The Black Cauldron", which shows the Horned King, unlike the 2000 DVD.

I'm not too crazy about that title either.

At least that title would make some sense. I mean, I guess there is mist in The Great Mouse Detective and there is a mystery also... lol

All I'm going to say about this release is that I wish Disney would start making quality releases again. Releases like this and the upcoming Alice release are almost embarrassing.

Okay.... so how does "Zombies in the Acidic Green Smoke" Edition sound? Because it it's terrible, then it's probably what they'll go with.

"Mystery in the Mist" just sounds like a bad horror film. Why can't Disney just go back to the days of just simply labelling their films with "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" or "A Walt Disney Classic"? Then again, it'd be less cringe-worthy and thus we wouldn't see Gromit, Enigma or various sweet delights so often.

If the Black Cauldron's new DVD is released this year and is called anything but a "25th Anniversary Edition" I'm going to slap someone in Disney's home video division. Come to think of it, why can't GMDs new DVD come out next year with that title?

As for the cover, why must Basil wear green? Even on the one good cover from the black diamond line of VHS/laserdisc releases he wears green too.
