If I am right... I imagine MadonnasManOne will be ticked..... as If I remember MM1 wasn't too happy about the Cars Blu ray and Ratatouille Blu Ray getting an extra deleted scenes and additional features...
If the commentary does not appear on the 2-Disc release, but, appears on the Blu-Ray release, that will be the last straw, for me. I won't pick up any version of this release. Disney has disappointed me, extremely, with their DVD releases, lately. They've gone from releasing elaborate, well done DVD releases, to just going through the motions, and putting less effort into each passing release. If they keep this up, they will end up losing the standard definition DVD consumers, but, not in favor of the HD releases. There is a recent report out, about consumers either cutting back, dramatically, on buying standard DVD releases, or just not buying them at all. The reason? They have decided to wait until a clear winner emerges from the HD format war. Consumers figure that they will end up buying these films on an HD format, at some point in the future, so, they have decided to skip buying any of the releases, until there is one format. I don't see an end to the format war, any time soon, so, I may just stop buying the standard definition releases, myself, no matter how much I want the movie.

By the way, Timon/Pumbaa fan, you need to watch your language. I'm referring to this post: "The fact Disney's reading this is unlikely, and clearly the princess fags here don't care what happens to the franchise."

That is EXTREMELY inappropriate of you, no matter how you intended the word "fag"!

SFX in the UK have reviewed the normal DVD and say it has 2 commentries. One from Gore and Johnny, the other from Geoffry Rush solo. It appears these are on the single disc only.

Thanks for the heads up, Netty. I'll mention this in my review of the R1 2-disc (which I'll have done in a couple of days). BVHE's logic (or lack thereof) baffles me.

From the reviews I've read so far a lot of people say the DVD gets soft and muddy looking in some scenes. It has to be a space issue on the DVD... I guess. However LOTR was long and on 1 disc (Theatricals) and it looked fine.

No word on the Blu-ray transfer, although I'm sure it will be great.

I know Best Buy has a gift set, and Wal-mart probably will have a bonus DVD. Are there any other exclusives for At World's End?

Woah, Woah, Woah there Tiger!

Given SFX is a monthy magazine, and it came out recently (I'm not sure of the date) it was probably "print ready" say two weeks ago. And the "review" was probably written a month before that.

I'm not saying it was, but all/part of the review could be from the Press Release and publicity rather than from the actual disc itself. Especially as we (in the UK) don't get a single disc at all.

But it shows, if anything, who were on the commentary tracks. It also indicates to me that commentary tracks were recorded, but held back. You don't just throw J Depp's name about willy nilly on publicity unless its in the can or 100% confirmed to be happening!

The Beaver is not happy. At all.

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRevie ... ds_end.htm
The video bitrate is an astonishingly low 4.82 Mbps. The low bitrate may explain why the picture looks so miserable. I realize that there was a lot of digital processing due to tweaking and the addition of computer effects, but the overall quality is highly disappointing. Much of the movie is very soft, very blurry, and washed out. Dark scenes are problematic, too, with either excessive grain or little detail. On the whole, this is a dull, lifeless transfer.

Well it didn't look that great either in the cinema. Too grainy and muddled. So it's no surprise the dvd looks the same.

the beaver isn't happy.. and neither am i.
why take off the "limited edition" from the shelves? ever?
that's ridiculous.. i'll probably try and get two copies.

the look of the dvd is also really dissappointing.
and that never usually bothers me.. but it's pirates!

other than that.. wish they'd have a feature on the ride.
more deleted scenes. more about the characters.
there really isn't a single bonus feature i'm looking forward to.
except the deleted scenes.

this sucks..
oh well. at least the movie is amazing.

Why is everyone up in arms about the commentary being on the single-disc edition -- Disney's press release did clearly state that the single-disc DVD edition being the only one (aside from the 2-disc Bluray edition) having the "feature audio commentary"....

*checks the press release*

Oh, I see it now. I think this is a monetary ploy by Disney to get fans to double-dip on the movie in order to get all the extras and the commentary. I hope Lighthouse Mike gets his hands on the single-disc edition early and confirms whether that edition will have a commentary. If it does, at least those hunting for a version with a commentary will know which one has it. Still, it's ripping off the consumers.

And as for people complaining about the low bitrate, it doesn't exactly mean the picture will be bad. I've seen a few movies with low bitrates and they looked perfectly fine to me. The stills look sharp to me, and the movie has to be in motion to determine whether it really looks bad. The picture quality of the film when I saw it in the theaters was stunning -- not surprising since the theater I usually go to has reverted to DLP Digital Projection and relying less on regular film projectors.

Sounds pretty unbelievable, but Pirates 3 are going to be released in my country on december 1. Three days before its US dvd premiere. I cant believe it. If you lived in the Czech Republic you would be surpriesed as well... :o

It was released here last week, which is unusual since usually we're like 1-2 months behind the US.

Well, DVD Empire has posted up the back covers for all the releases of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Sad to say, none of the editions have the commentaries -- not even the single-disc edition or the Blu-ray release. It's safe to say Disney will double-dip on this title in the near future -- probably on both formats.

The only Blu-ray exclusive extra on POTC 3 is "Enter the Maelstrom" -- no filmmaker's commentary. Unless the commentaries aren't mentioned but are included on the Blu-ray, I have to say the movie is on even footing with both format releases.

HighDefDigest have reviewed the Region A World's End on Blu-ray, as as with the Region B, there is NO COMMENTARY

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1018/pi ... dsend.html

It seems he echoes my view. The supplements are much to light and short compared to the other two films.

Blockbuster here in Canada has some bonuses. If you buy At World's End, you get a choice of one of the following:
Pirates Chest (tin)
POTC Poster
POTC: AWE Playing Cards
Compass Tin

I just checked the Future Shop website. they have the 2 disc steelbook for $28.99. Along with Pirates, they have some other Disney movies on sale:
For $7.99:
The Three Musketeers
Flight of the Navigator
Treasure Island
The Rocketeer
For $12.99
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The Black hole
National Treasure

I checked Walmart's website, they have the same bonus here in Canada, the PC game.

Does anyone know if you get the best buy bonus disc if you order POTC from bestbuy.com? I don't have a BB any closer than 40 miles away.

I'm confused now. Do we know for sure that the single disc DVD has a commentary and the 2 disc one does not? I'll be sending someone out to pick mine up so I need to know so they get the right thing.

Also, does anyone know if the action figure in the Best Buy gift set is the same one you can buy in stores or if it's painted differently or something? It will help in determining my purchase.

Thanks!

No release (single disc, double disc, or blu-ray) of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will come with a commentary.

jrboy, Thank you very much. Best Buy has screwed me several times out of bonus discs & movie cash when I bought online. I feel much more secure now. :D

I'll be getting this, probably Tuesday or Wednesday, at Best Buy. The 43-minute bonus disc sounds good, especially since the 2-Disc set (which I'll be getting) sounds kinda skimpy compared to the bonus material on the "Curse of the Black Pearl" set. I can't wait to own this, especially since I have yet to see it.
