Question for those who imported the Region A Dumbo Blu-Ray:

I'm currently on vacation in Brazil and considering it's un-certain when exactly Dumbo will be released in North America, I was thinking on buying the Dumbo Blu-Ray while I'm over here. Is it worth it, do you think? Especially since converting the Brazilian Real to Canadian dollars, it comes out as the same price it will likely be in Canada.

I say go for it. Besides, when's the next time you can say, "I bought a Blu-Ray in Brazil"?

Pssst, Escapay, check out that criterion sale thread in the General dvd discussion (end of first page) and respond there.

As for the relevant stuff.
What is the explanation for the US still having no information whatsoever about a Dumbo release that was supposed to come out 10 months ago?

I haven't been keeping up with these foreign releases. What is supposed to be on this release?

I expect the US release to be identical except for the previews and possibly the art gallery. Fantasia and (seemingly) the upcoming Alice in Wonderland have a new interactive type of gallery that lets you sort and categorize the images, flip them through them either as a smooth slideshow or via thumbnails, and you have the option of playing musical score (which never breaks up) as you do all of this. It's pretty nifty, and it's possible that Disney might implement that for Dumbo.

Who knows? Maybe Disney will give us the full Reluctant Dragon film in HD as a supplement. That'd very cool, would add a lot of value to the set, and would explain why the release is taking so long.

Now that we're 3 days into 2011, can anyone speculate as to what time of year you think we'll see this released?

The first half of the year is already pretty heavy with releases (Alice, Bambi, Tangled), so do you think we're looking at a Summer or Fall release possibly?

It's really neat to think that by the end of the year, we'll have the first 5 DAC available on Blu-ray! 8)

Is Dumbo coming out in April?

Film archivist Robert Harris said the following on HTF when discussing the the number of Walt Era DACs we've received on Blu-Ray:
Robert Harris wrote:Since the advent of Blu-ray we've been gifted four. The 1951 Alice in Wonderland will make five, and very shortly in March and April numbers 6 and 7, Bambi and Dumbo, will follow."

Three Walt Era DACs in a row, sounds too good to be true, but I'm hoping it is. If they delay Dumbo for Rapunzel, as they did for The Princess and the Frog, then it will just be a never ending cycle of getting delayed in favor of the latest DAC.

I hope so. While I hated the VirtualVault part of Fantasia, I loved the new interactive art gallery (except the load times).

That would also be nice, since the movie is soo short it doesn't take up much space on the disc and it would be a welcome payback for the delay. I'm just happy to have Cine-Explore back, since I don't care for regular commentaries.

I'd love to see Dumbo in April. I am a little new to following these re-releases, but does Disney ever release DAC on home video during the Summer? I know there is logic to their Spring releases, and then Fall in anticipation of the holiday season, but I am not sure if anything has ever come out during the Summer months?

The preview on AIW Blu-ray is not giving a date at all...not even a season.

I am really looking forward to Dumbo being on Blu-ray. It is my all-time favorite Disney movie!

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw this in September-ish. It would be kind of like how AIW was a month before Bambi, then Dumbo would be a month before TLK.

I found a link to "Color Me Mine" that it must be true, "Dumbo" will be release on Blu-Ray/DVD in August 2011. Tell me if it's true if "Dumbo" will be consider for an August release. I will give you a link to it, it's on the bottom of the page.

I guess that last week, they release "Alice In Wonderland" the "60th Anniversary Edition" on Blu-Ray/DVD, but I hope "Dumbo" is not be ready until sometime in August. It was originally going to be release this month, but they'll have a few months left. Don't worry folks, just to be very patient.

Aww man I want Dumbo to be released already. I can only imagine how irritated you guys are since most of you have been keeping up on the releases for a while! I've only been in the loop since 2010! I think Dumbo has been giving people in America the slip since 2009 or something. I feel dumb now for not buying the 60th Anniversary release. It's been at this dvd store I go to for ever now but I haven't been there in a month or so. I was used but it was only 17 bucks, can't beat that haha I read on the dvd reviews that on the Bambi Diamond edition they have the Dumbo preview again so I think there is still a chance!

I am a little bothered right now. I finally got this, purchased it from eBay for 15 dollars. The seller had the picture of the Blu ray case , but ended up getting the DVD case version.
Definitely not okay with.

Contact the seller immediately and tell them you are NOT OK with this, as the image was misleading. It is their responsibility to make everything alright with this issue, and if they don't immediately seek a refund on grounds of a misleading listing, and if you are really bothered by it leave negative feedback. As an eBay seller myself I cannot fathom why somebody would think it's ok to send an item that is not the same as the image in the listing.

This was the response I got:
"I see what you mean. I'm sorry, when I listed the item I did not realize that there were 2 different packages for this product. It was not my intention to mislead you. Aside from the packaging, the actual disc contents are exactly the same regardless of the packaging. Is this product acceptable?"

I don't understand how he didn't notice the difference since the blu ray packaging is different from the DVD. I don't like making a fuzz, but it is my money and I didn't get what I payed for. If I wanted a DVD packaging I would of payed for that instead, regardless if the content is the same inside.

Definitely tell him that. It sounds like the seller is most certainly not any kind of DVD collector, and do doesn't understand the idea of wanting one over the other when the contents are the same. Im sure its just innocent ignorance in this case. Just explain to him that your collection consists of bluray cases an for consistencys sake, you were looking for that version. Ask for a return and refund.
