I just received the Jungle Book collectors DVD gift set via amazon.co.uk. Although the book contains no texts (thats bad) the packaging looks fine and makes this platinum edition look cool in my DVD collection. My all time favourite is Cinderella Colletros Gift set... :)

Wow, this is the most recent Jungle Book discussion thread I could find?

Anyway, I watched it again last night and there was something I'm surprised I didn't notice before. When we first see Shere Kahn, he is hunting what appears to be Bambi's mother. I don't feel like going through the other 30+ pages of this thread, but has anybody else noticed this? I guess she didn't die after all, she simply wound up in India. I think it's even the same animation.

Speaking of which, do they have that type of deer in India?

The "Bambi's mother eating grass + looks up" animation has also been reused in Sword in the Stone (Kay misses her near the start when hunting with Wart) and at the very beginning of Beauty and the Beast when the camera pans up to the Beast's castle.
So what you're telling us is that Bambi's mother has actually appeared in more animated classics than any other Disney character. She's kind of an unspoken for superstar! Now I have new avatar ideas lol.

She also appeared in Animaniacs. Well, sort of. :p

Perhaps this explains all the cameos.

Haha! Yeah, that could be for sure.

I love that episode. SPOILERS: Especially when Slappy says; "Co'mon Skippy, let us go and see Bumbie's mom." Skippy: "Bumbie's mom? She's..." (start crying).

Yup. Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale even mentions it on the Audio Commentary.

However, I think it's cute and funny that she actually appears on several movies.

@estefan: Bambi's mom must have traveled to India for this role because White-tailed deer are native to the Americas.

When you're as big of as star as Bambi's mom you can travel anywhere!

I think she was in The Rescuers swamp, too!

I find it rather...disrespectful to their own films to re-use Bambi's mom eating grass (in what I'm hoping isn't from a scene just before she was killed!), but if they at least made it into a different deer, then maybe that's less bad. Did they change her into a differently designed, natural to India deer for The Jungle Book?

Looks exactly like Bambi's mother.

I think re-using animation was a Wolfgang Reitherman trademark. Then again, he wasn't the only director to do it. When the crew was pressed for time at the end of Beauty and the Beast's production, they re-used the final dance from Sleeping Beauty.

A deer's gotta make her money!

I think Bambi's mom is my new favorite character.

This conversation comes up again and again. I find no problem at all with Disney using Disney animation for their films.

If another went and took a piece of Disney animation, or vice versa, then it's a problem. But a Disney animator did that animation, so why not use it in Disney movies? It's not like they've ever made Bambi's mother into a main character again and just reused everything. It's called a cameo because it's just a quick nod to the film.

In this thread, Every single female deer you see automatically means it's Bambi's mom....

"A doe's gotta make her dough" would have worked better.

Yes, but in Beauty and the Beast they did not look exactly like Aurora and Phillip. ;)

If it's just before she got shot in the original film I find it distasteful. Also, depending on how they re-use the animation, in some ways, they aren't making completely new characters, as the new characters' animated actions are pretty much exactly the same as past characters. This is why it can be viewed as a problem.
