I didn't notice the typos but I'll be on the lookout for them now!
Well, you've convinced me to buy it anyways, and I can't stand sitcoms. I always had a soft-spot for the Golden Girls, and this brought all those memories flooding back in a floody sort of way.
The Monkey's Uncle wrote:empty nest was, of course, the spin-off of the golden girls. they lived in the same neighborhood. blance even dated richard mulligans character. and if i remember correctly, sophia was made a cast member of the show during its last season. I miss empty nest.
Yes, and don't forget
Nurses, which spun-off from Empty Nest.
The three shows played back to back on NBC, and resulted in various theme nights, such as "Hurricane Night", in which the three shows crossed over.

"Empty Nest and Golden Girls initially aired back to back and as such the characters from each show would drop by the other on a regular basis. Eventually a third show named Nurses was added that took place at the Hospital where Harry worked. All three shows would air on the same night and elaborate theme nights started airing with characters from all the shows hopping from one to the other. One was a moonlight madness night where a full moon made people act crazy. Another one was a hurricane night where everyone became stranded in different areas, leaving some at the Golden Girl's home, some over at Empty Nest and other unable to leave the hospital on Nurses."

Well Between the two of you, Awallacenc and Loomis, you've pretty much sold them to me! i never realised the three shows were intertwined like that! I just thought they were spin offs from one another!
Great review aaron btw.

Thanks, Loomis and ichabod! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that I had typos after all.

Glad to see that you've now decided to get it, though.
Good job, Luke. I very much agree with what you've said here. I'm in the middle of the season now and was just thinking about how the "omg: GIRLS!" theme was a tad excessive (still not bad though)- glad to know it's going to pick up. I watched the show from its very first episode, but it's difficult to remember the sequence of these less prominent episodes nine years later.
One question, though. What bonus feature were you referring to when you said "It never topped the ratings chart, but nonetheless it was a reliable and much-liked staple of ABC's "TGIF" programming. (This would have made for an excellent bonus feature, but alas, it's not included.)" A featurette on TGIF or something along those lines? I'm intrigued!

Oops, I tagged that onto the wrong paragraph. It should go on the next paragraph, about when the show returned in May 1994, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel hosted. That would have been neat to see.
Thanks!

It''s too bad it wan't on the DVD, Seinfeld has done such a great job with their dvds especially showing stuff like that. All DVD's should have extra stuff like that.

I just heard Danielle say that she looked up Lily Niksay on IMDB. I found that really interest. Also, is it just me, or does the coffee shop set look just like Chubby's with different furniture? I know they were wrong about when Chubby's started, so maybe they've forgotten that as well? Too bad the chain dream was never realized- I would have gone there all the time!
