I think there is something odd about the whole feel of the first photo but I can't quite put my finger on it. Hope it looks better in the actual film... I actually expected something quite different from "humans with pointy ears" but oh well.
Also, in Brazil the movie was titled Two Brothers: A Fantastic Journey which is, uh, interesting

The teaser is here and it's really adorable! Much better than the stills and the poster imply.

Sotiris: Generic was the word I'm looking for, regarding the designs of the leads. The elves looks just like characters in Planet 51 (first thought right away) and Lifted. Take away the ears and they can fit into any movie.

The movie looks great! I loved that teaser, it reminded me of the first Pixar teasers, which were like little shorts that gave us a glimpse at the world of the movie but didn't reveal anything about the plot.

Exactly. I'm still not too fond of their design, but I think I understand why they made them look just like blue humans with ears. Like in
Planet 51, it was probably to make this imaginary world resemble our modern world as much as they could.

Yeah, that was cute. The raccoon-esque unicorns were the best part.

The teaser was OK. I was more interested in the fantasy world shown at the beginning than anything from the modern world. Why can't Pixar do something more epic like that? In any case, while the concept isn't exactly original, it has potential. It all depends on the execution. I can't muster much excitement for this yet. Maybe that will change when the theatrical trailer comes out. Chris Pratt's character sounded unnatural and stilted. I hope he won't be doing that 'ye olde timey' voice for the entirety of the movie.

I don't know... I want something epic, something serious. It seems like the same generic road trip buddy comedy.

I just realized that Dan Scanlon is the director. He directed Monsters University. I don't have any expectations from this film now.

Isn't the existence of unicorns and elves and mermaids evidence enough that there's still magic left in this world? Or do they mean that life just became too mundane for them? I'm not sure I get the premise; perhaps it would work better with humans?
Also, is the logo using Frozen typeface?
EDIT: Edited for misspelling.

Only if those creatures are magical themselves. If a mermaid is simply a girl with the lower half of a fish, she is not magical. Unicorns sometimes have horns that are magical, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
Fantasy elements, like a secondary world, trolls and dragons, doesn't have to be magical.

Another buddy comedy. Same cake, different frosting. For the past 25 years. I’m bored.

Mermaids, trolls, dragons, etc. are all mythical creatures that are likely normalized in this world, so seeing them isn't magical for the characters.
Honestly I think this movie is just a set up for the moral that's "
friendship family is magic" or thereabouts. Two brothers on a journey to find the meaning of their lives, learn of their history, all that jazz.
Interestingly enough it seems that this movie will be the narrative opposite to The Good Dinosaur. TGD (I believe?) is supposed to take place in a modern day and yet the dinosaurs look juvenile and humans are implied to be feral. (How dinosaurs were able to become farmers and yet humans stayed in a neanderthal state I don't know.)
Here in Onward it seems that the "animals" (the unicorn that acts like a raccoon, that snake like dog...) are subservient to the "humans" (elves, but same difference.)
Also: yes! The main characters in Onward look like the aliens from Planet 51. I think those aliens were brothers too.

I saw the trailer, and....it doesn't seem like a Pixar movie. Coco's first teaser was least able to give me that Pixar essence. I'm trying to piece together those elements that stick out to me when I think "Pixar," for trailers and, no, it's not "This is going to make me cry."
1. WITTY jokes- the jokes in the Onward teaser seem too stationary, on one train of thought.
2. A small character trying to understand a big world. The character doesn't have to be literally small but at least contrasted the power of their world. Even the first Monster's Inc. teaser had that with Mike and Sully entering the wrong room and arguing with each other.
3. Diversity in cinematography- we need those shots. So far what we see in Onward is too boxy.
So that's my breakdown of my "meh" reaction to this trailer.

I wonder if more famous people be announced for the voice cast later or if the only stars are the four we know ?

There must be more characters in the film, so I guess more members of the voice cast will be announced later.

In Spain it has the same title as in the US (for now at least, sometimes they change it later), but I've seen that in Latin America it has been titled "Unidos", which means "United".

I agree, that was simply the best part of the trailer. It looked really beautiful and appealing. I hope really that will be a part of the movie.
Anyway, the trailer was fine, though. I liked the designs and the settings, but disliked the song at the end.

heh, cute ...but yeah artistically this is still pretty generic looking, hopefully they'll wow us more when they get to wherever it is they're going to find magic.
for those of you wishing for more "epic-ness" yeah Pixar hasn't really done epic since Brave. "Epic" often means long silent scenes of pretty eye catching or striking scenery and you know that could bore kids (don't wanna bore the kids!) Dinosaur could have been epic if they hadn't chosen such awful character design and cartoonish portrayal of dinosaurs(dinosaur cowboys ughhh.)
btw those unicorns have wings, technically they're alicorns.

Honestly, from the teaser, this doesn't even feel like a Pixar movie. It feels like a generic CGI film from almost any other studio. I agree with those who said that Chris Pratt's voice is incredibly annoying in this. I really hope that shtick was just for the teaser and select scenes in the film because it's already gotten old fast.
Even Brave, while it came off as epic in the teaser, was quite underwhelming for most viewers at the end. It's pretty foreboding then that this teaser by itself is already underwhelming.

I didn't realize that he's the director for this film. I already had low expectations but they've dropped considerably more now and that's coming from someone who actually liked MU. I've always wondered why Pete Docter didn't work on that film.

I vaguely remember him being asked that and saying he was more interested in new ip, that he already told the story he wanted to tell with the original.
I think they saw university as a way to give someone new a chance without risking putting the responsibility of creating a new world onto him. And honestly I dont get the bad rep university got, I enjoyed it a lot. My main gripes were what felt like retcons. Plus the fact that they saved some of the more interesting parts of the story for the end credits.

I felt like Monsters University was a typical college film with two groups competing etc... And that idea is dated, it was dated even back in 2013. Those films were prominent in the early 2000, then they devolved into being released direct to dvd. This concept is not something I expected to see in 2013, especially not in an animated film, especially not in a PIXAR animated film.
Dan Scanlon seems to have outdated ideas an concept. The teaser for Onward seems cynical about a fantasy setting and elements. Yeah look there's a Mermaid in a plastic pool... It's something DreamWorks did 18 years ago with Shrek. Not something you'd see in a Pixar film in 2020.
