Anyway... You know, looking at Aurora's dress like that makes me remember how, as a child, I always wanted to see Fauna suddenly be like: "........GREEN!!!!"

I think that that dress would have been really pretty in green.
I remember you saying that.

And I agree, green would have made a nice and unexpected change.

Disney Duster wrote:Divinity, yes, but Tiana looking like she's in rags doesn't make it any better/prettier, does it?
I also said I like the earthy colors. It's not my favorite of hers, but I'd hardly call it ugly either.

Also, several other people enjoy Cinderella's rags. When did the dress being/looking like rags have to be a bad thing (a problem you found with the dress)?
Disney Duster wrote:And I don't think Tiana's can actually be called very pretty. Unique and even stunning, sure, but prettiest...no.
That’s too bad. Seems like the poll disagrees.

Anyway, I've never really cared for any of Aurora's dresses. I'm not sure if I'd like the main dress in any color. Because it's a part of the film's style, it's unappealing as a real option. Too linear and pointed.

I do like Snow White's dress though, and I'm not a big fan of yellow.

I don't think Tiana's peasant costume was supposed to be that appealing. I mean, she's dressed like a peasant while Charlotte is the princess. It's brown because the artists wanted to make Charlotte's pink dress pop, so they made everyone dressed in blues, browns, and greens.

I like pretty much all their dresses, including Ariel's dresses, even though they're stitched together knockoffs of her former princesses' dresses. Except maybe Eilonwy's, her's is a little plain for a princess, but I'm sure it serves its purpose.

When I say "all men..." or "every man..." I'm not even pretending to speak for every *heterosexual* man! I know I'm not *literally* expressing the point of view of most men (I may have a gut feeling, but I could never back it up). That's because it's just a figure of speech. And it doesn't warrant any drama queen-ish replies from anybody.

Oh, and Margos, we were not fighting, we were just having a civil discussion. :)

Goliath, you have no right to call anyone on this board drama queens or to insinuate this in any way. It is a violation of the rules of UD.

I am going to say this flat out and hopefully I won't have to say it again: Do Not Lecture Me. Ever. I don't care what your excuses are and I don't want to hear it. I said what I said to Duster, you butted in, and if you didn't like my response to that, Do Not Butt In.

Obviously Ariel's "dress" that Scuttle helped make when Eric found her is the best. :P

In regards to Tiana's peasant dress, I agree with Dragonlion in the sense that it isn't supposed to be appealing. She went dressed in a peasant costume that was either a loan or just made with what she could afford/had on hand. It was just something to wear for the party scene.

As for my favorite dress.....I don't overly care. Now, maybe if we were talking about the Prince costumes I might care a bit more since it's something I could actually -wear- and stop to try and picture myself in. Trying to picture myself in a dress just isn't a pretty sight. ;)

I am one who loves Ariel in her pink dress. I LOVE pink on redheads, and her dress design is one of my favorites. It is quintessential "princess" in my book.

I also love Rapunzel's dress. It has a very old German feeling to me. I love the flowers and details on it and the puff sleeves. Hmmm...puff sleeves again, seeing a trend!

SnowWhite's dress is also at the top of my list. In fact, it might be my favorite. I love the colors. I love (again) the sleeves) and I think the design is very romantic.

I love Cinderella's wedding dress too.

I don't really prefer Aurora's dress. Too Medieval.
Belle's is pretty but I am a little tired of seeing it.
Jasmine's are not really dresses.
Cinderella's silver dress is lovely, but not a favorite.
Tiana's dress could be gorgeous, but I feel like it is more magic and less dress. That may not make sense.

Edited to add: Except for the wedding dress, I am commenting on the main "princessy dress" for each girl. Not all the other day to day dresses.

DDivinity, well, I'm pretty sure when talking about Cinderella's rags, me and those people meant when her pink dress, which wasn't rags, was ripped into rags. Meaning it had great colors and somehow, this stylish ripped look. Anyway, what I was saying was that if this is about the prettiest dress, not just favorites, then I don't think any rags can win.

And the poll has me questioning people's tastes and opinions of pretty! :P I'm half-joking, but on another note, I think Aurora's is pretty partly because of her film's style. They intended to make their most strikingly beautiful film, and the linear, symetrical, angular style is a beautiful thing. Myabe if her collar was just less high and far out, you know? So that Aurora wouldn't poke someone's eye out just by turning...

Chernabog, I actually think that dress is great! It's not the prettiest, but it's actually one of the great dresses if it was just, you know, not made from a sail and rope!

Rapunzel, is Rapunzel's dress really German? I heard they use a French renaissance style on the film...maybe I'm wrong... Snow White's is very German though, right? Her film was definately German styled. I think Snow White's dress would be good if the colors were just...fixed a bit. If her yellow was a less bright gold, or white, and if her blues and reds were deep and purplish.

As for Tiana's dress, I totally get what you mean! It's like it's a bunch of lilypads sewn together with magic than really a practical dress a princess would wear like the other princesses have!

Actually I forgot to say...I like Tiana's real royal wedding dress (the one she wore in the church) the best of her outfits. With the gold trim crossing over her skirt, it's just gorgeous (though I think the skirt should be fully down to the floor, but I'm picky like that!).

Enigmawing, you may have found at least one solution to the problem of Ariel's hair with the dress. The colors look great! I'm pretty sure her dress actually had a kind of trim or fold on the large pink round parts on the skirt, I remember details like that. But I could imagine the folds unfolded...or she just cut them off or something! How did you get that same charcoal/painting look in that background, it could have come straight from the movie!

I quite like her like this, with the browns and deep yellow.

Snow White was the only one of the princesses who never followed a particular color pattern.

I always found it interesting how Disney's Cinderella was entitled to wear such a clean dress, as a show of some dignity for her lowly status, when in other versions, she's reduced to rags to emphasize said status.

Semaj wrote:Snow White was the only one of the princesses who never followed a particular color pattern.
No she wasn't.

Cinderella had her rags dress, which featured several colours, in addition to the pink dress from her mother and the blue / silver ball gown.

Aurora had her peasant girl dress and the blue / pink dress the fairies created for her.

Ariel had a number of dresses of different colours, including pink, white and blue.

Belle also had a number of dresses of different colours including blue, red, green and yellow.

Just because they are more commonly seen in a particularly dress in merchandising, it doesn't mean they follow a colour code.

Enigmawing-- did you collect Disney Princess Zizzlingers a few years back (like me)? The Ariel-in-pink drawing is a dead ringer for one of them. Lovely!

I do think that pink looks lovely with red hair, but that it can go wrong easily. You're right in that there's an extra fold on part of the dress, but since this is a chibi version I tried to streamline her a bit. As for the background, I worked in separate layers after looking over some screencaps. One for the outside, one for the window frames, and one for the floor, all of which were digitally painted with a tablet and combined like a sandwich. I used yet another layer above them to add the texture which helps with the painterly effect. :)

Woah, you're right! I didn't collect them . . . unfortunately I didn't find out about them until they were only available via second-hand market. I always thought they were oh-so-cute though! I was only going for a chibi-version of her here, but that particular pose must have stuck in my sub-conscious mind. :D
