Indeed, thanks.

I saw a commercial on Animal Planet last night that had new stuff in it. The thing I can remember was lightning hitting the roof of the house. I think Remey was up on the roof cooking. After the lightning strike Remey asked the other rat about the flavor... "lightningy".

I keep seeing commercials on television for "Ratatouille", and they are saying there will be a sneak preview this Saturday, June 16th. I googled it to see if I could find out where the sneak peaks would be at, but I couldn't find anything. I read that there will be sneak peaks in over 800 theaters this Saturday, but I couldn't find a list of participating theaters. Has anyone else heard about this and does anyone know where I could find out what theaters will have the sneak preview of Ratatouille this weekend?

Movietickets.com recognizes there will be a sneak on the 16th, but it doesn't list any theatres within 40 miles of me, and Fandango doesn't even recognize their will be a sneak, whatever anyone finds out, let us know.

Yay! I might actually go to see this during the sneak peek!

According to Movietickets.com, there is a showing where I live, on Saturday, the 16th! The theater is in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the Dickinson Starworld 20. The only showing they have listed for the sneak peek is at 7:15 p.m.

I'm going to have to see if I can get some friends together to go see this with me during the sneak!

The commercial advertising the sneak peek is very vague. It just mentions that it happens on Saturday.

While I was searching whether they will have sneak peeks around my place, I also saw that they listed the movie run time: 1 hour 50 minutes. That is a few minutes under The Incredibles and Cars.

Summer is just around the corner and it will be downhill from there for Ratatouille to arrive! :D

Did a search for tickets for the sneak preview. The only theater doing this showing is about an hour drive from my house. I doubt I'll be able to make it. I wished one of our local theaters was doing this.

I saw the movie tonight!!

It was great! The audience was laughing and clapping the entire time (granted, everyone in the audience personally sought out tickets for this preview, so they were most likely all die-hard fans).

**potential spoilers***

First, what I loved:
The art design for this movie is beautiful. The color palette and lighting just felt very "French" and gave the film a certain dreamy quality (as you could probably tell from the trailers). The character work was phenomenal, particularly with Remy. His character was able to say so much with the simplest gestures and subtlest movements. It was impossible not to love him, he was adorable. The animation of the scampering rats, the delectible food, the panoramic view of Paris--it was all just amazing. The movie was very funny, but I feel like I need to see it again to catch all the jokes, because the movie FLEW BY. I really liked that about it. It was sentimental and sweet without dwelling on those moments too much (sometimes I felt like Cars got boring because it took so much time during the sentimental moments). The action is fast and the story finds it groove very quickly. It didn't have as many laugh-out-loud moments for me the way, say, Finding Nemo did. But like all the Pixar classics, it was beautifully animated, funny, cleverly crafted, and endlessly entertaining. It had an endearing timelessness to it that I think puts it very much in the realm of the great Disney classics. I think it will still be adored years from now, where as Cars may begin to feel a little bit "of its time," as it gave way to pop-culture jokes a la Shrek (not saying that's a bad thing, just saying that, down the line, it may give the film a somewhat cheaper feel). Anyway, I won't dote on the good, because rest assured, it is another Pixar classic (if anyone has any specific questions, I'd love to answer).

the Bad:

Like I already mentioned, it didn't have as many clever one-liners and character inside jokes as the other Pixar films...but ultimately, this is ok to me, because it had great physical comedy and can be seen as more of a work of art than a long stream of jokes (though it would have been nice if a couple of the chefs or rats could have had quirkier individual characteristics--like Edna Mode, Rex, Heymlich (sp?), Mater, Dory, etc).

Sometimes, it was hard to understand what was said because of the accents (particularly the character Collette).

Besides those things, I really can't complain much. Although I loved Cars, this film was a breath of fresh air, as it steered clear of the puns and pop-culture references of Cars and the Shreks (again, not that they are all bad...I just think it is an acheivment that a film can be funny, endearing, and gripping without being entirely of its time).

I am glad to hear an overly positive review for the film. At first I was really excited about this film, and I thought the teaser looked really cute, and then we started to get more previews and trailers for the movie and I began to grow hesitant. Sure, it looks like a clever and new concept, but it doesn't look like it will have the same magic as some of the previous Disne/Pixar efforts. Don't get me wrong, I still think the film looks pretty cute, and I am really curious to see the film and see how it turns out. I am really glad someone here has seen the movie and had positive things to say about it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I will be able to see a sneak preview next weekend as it looks as if there are no theaters anywhere near me that are participating in that. I guess I will just have to wait until June 29th like most of America to see this film and create my own opinion.

My Experience At The Ratatouille Showing In Austin, TX!

Image

I was fortunate enough to attend an early showing of “Ratatouille” in Austin, Texas on Monday, June 11th at 7:00 p.m.

My dad, sister, and I arrived early to the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Austin because we wanted to get good seats and we knew all the seats were sold out. When we got there, we were surprised to be the first in line to pick up our tickets. After waiting 45 minutes, we got screened for recording devices. After getting screened, we went over to a table that was serving complimentary ratatouille. Of course, I had to get some and try it for the first time. It was pretty good considering that I don’t like cooked vegetables that well. My dad really liked it and got a second serving.

We were the first people in the theater, so we got to choose great seats in the middle of the theater. Instead of your normal theater that has rows of seats in front of you and behind you, the Alamo Drafthouse is seat up with tables in front of your seats so you can eat a meal. Waiters come by occasionally and get your orders. My sister and I got a pizza that was really good. My dad ate linguini. How cool is it that my dad ate ratatouille and linguini the same night as the movie, “Ratatouille”?

It was 30 minutes until show time after the waiter took our food order. During those 30 minutes, we ate our food and watched some old tv commercials on the theater screen. My dad said that he hadn’t seen any of those commercials since he was a kid.

A guy from “Ain’t It Cool News” introduced the audience to Patton Oswalt (the voice of Remy). Patton said thanks for coming and that this was the only way to get kids to come see “Hostel, Part 2”. Everyone laughed. Patton said that he would do a Q&A session at the end of the movie. Patton then said to enjoy “Ratatouille.” As the lights dimmed, Brad Bird was on the screen and said to the audience at the Alamo Drafthouse that we were one of the first people in the world to see the film and to enjoy the movie! Finally, it was time!

We watched the “WALL- E” teaser trailer first. It was really cool and looked very realistic. The short film, “Lifted” was next. I don’t know how this short film did not win an Oscar. In my opinion, this short film was the best and funniest short film Pixar has ever done. There was non-stop laughing in the theater as it was being shown.

After “Lifted”, it was time for “Ratatouille”. I don’t want to spoil the movie for any of you, so I won’t go into a lot of detail about the movie. “Ratatouille” began with the Pixar animated Disney logo, not the one that has been shown in some tv spots.

In my opinion, this film was probably the funniest Pixar film made yet. It had great animation, great voice acting, great creativity, and great everything else!!! This is the first Pixar film that I heard all of the audience laughing throughout the movie. Kids and adults of all ages were in attendance. My dad even said it was the funniest Pixar film yet. My dad and sister really enjoyed the movie also.

At the end of the movie, [spoil]2-D credits rolled[/spoil]. When I was watching the credits, I saw Patton Oswalt at the entrance/exit of the theater. My sister and I grabbed our Ratatouille flyers (that were given to us when we picked up our tickets) and walked over to Patton. I handed him my flyer and a marker and he autographed it! I was so excited that I was shaking. After that, just Patton and I were chatting for two minutes about how cool it was to voice Remy in the movie. Patton noticed that I had an “Incredibles” shirt on. I told him that I have been following “Ratatouille” for over a year and a half. He was surprised and said that was cool. After talking with Patton, I noticed that Janeane Garofalo (the voice of Colette) was standing next to Patton. My sister and I got her autograph as well. We then went back to our seats.

Next, the guy from “Ain’t It Cool News” introduced the audience once again to Patton Oswalt and special guest, Janeane Garofalo for the Q&A session. There were lots of neat questions asked to Patton and Janeane. My sister even asked a question. She asked if this was Patton’s first time to see the entire movie. Patton said that this was his second time to see the entire movie. He said that he saw it a couple weeks ago in San Francisco (I’m assuming that he is referring to the “Ratatouille” wrap-up party that Pixar held there a few weeks ago). During the Q&A session, Patton told us how he made his voice in the big water scene of the movie sound so real. He said that water was really poured on him while recording to make it sound realistic.

After the Q&A session, Patton and Janeane had to go to a different location in Austin to present the “Foot Fist Way” show. As they were leaving, someone asked Patton to autograph their “Ratatouille” poster. Being such a nice guy as he is, he signed it for them. Janeane walked out with the rest of the crowd to her car.

It was then time to leave and go home. I was so tired when I got home that I decided to wait until this morning to write about my exciting night.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

BigFish where did you see the movie? I saw it in Austin, TX.

Thanks, JV IS TIZ!!! PIXAR, for your post! It sounds like an "incredible" evening! I wish I could have been in attendance at that event! I am happy to hear another positive review of this film. From the few early reviews I've read, Pixar may have topped themselves with this film. At the least, people seem to really like it. That bodes well for good word of mouth.

Thanks, also, to BigFish for your review.

I just can't wait to see this. I am still debating if I should see it at the sneak peek, or just wait to see it with the rest of the crowds. Decisions, decisions!

Do yourself a favor and don't see the sneak peek! In the long run (just merely 2 weeks), you will not regret it; because if you watch it now, you will hate yourself later.
