I knew, i just KNEW Disney was going to pull off something like this, i was just hoping they would prove me wrong.

Unless Dumbo's "remastered" picture quality is comparable to that of Bambi or Cinderella, then i won't be buying this pointless double dip.

I have an uneasy feeling that this is the fate that will befall Peter Pan, now that it's no longer a Platinum

I might (big might) rent this when it's released to see if the "new transfer" is really all that it's supposedly cracked up to be, but I ain't buying. I haven't double-dipped on a single Disney DVD yet, and this certainly does not merit one, even if Dumbo is one of my favorite Disney films.

Hehe... ugly cover art, stripped of many original (not to mention substantial) extras, and no notable new features. Just a "better" transfer that buyers will have to take on blind faith. I wonder how many of the obsessive Disney fans will bite for this one?

Hey, if it's got a shiny new slipcover - probably a lot! *sighs*

Why do they have to do this!?!?!?!?!??!?!

What next for a Dumbo Re-release
Oh boy, I can see it now:

Dumbo!

Coming to you in a new:

We Finally Got It Right 2-Disc Special Edition DVD

After two useless releases!

CAN WE MAKE SENSE HERE DISNEY CAN WE?

Oh this edition IS going to do HUGE!

Seeing that Pals is going to buy at least 5 copies to put between his 5 copies of the 60th anniversary edition of Dumbo and his 5 copies of Bambi: Platinum Edition, this DVD is GUARANTEED to sell well!

I give up.

Anyway, I'm worried about the other animated classic releases now. I mean, if this is the treatment they give Dumbo, one of the fab five, then I don't even want to think about how Fox & the Hound's new edition will turn out. Geez, I imagine we'll be lucky to get the full movie on there!

Can't you just imagine the childish edition name?:

The Fox and The Hound - EXTREMELY FOXY EDITION

I know you guys will be disappointed in me when I say this, but I kind of don't care about bonus features anymore. There just isn't a point in trying to get Disney to give us a good rerelease because they've become cheap.

But I do care about the restoration! It better be amazing or this will be the lowest Disney has gone.

I just wanted to say that I think Disney thought they could fool us and we won't notice the missing disc or the lack of features.

by so it goes
With the lack of decent features and the horrible cover art I am most definitely not going to be getting this. I will stick with the older 60th Anniversary edition.

I am seriously disappointed in this release. I was really hoping for something better. With Pinnochio coming to Platinum in the future and Fantasia's Anthology and upcoming Platinum, this leaves Dumbo the only of the first five without a really good, or multi-disc set. Granted, it is a short film and there really may not be enough material to make two discs worth it, Dumbo just deserves so much better. Plus, it's going to look kinda silly on people's shelves in it's crappy new edition next to all those nice Platinum and special editions.

I'm really kind of angry about this. It just seems us fans who are not under 10 years of age are getting screwed on this release. I agree with Pasta67, Disney DVD's just aren't for families anymore, this sad re-release and the fast play on Lady and the Tramp are just proving the kid-ification of Disney DVD. Thank goodness we adults still have the Treasures to look forward too.

Well even though disappointing (although not espescially surprising) news, I live in hope that maybe a decent transfer will be present on this new upcoming disc!

Uncle Scrooge syndrome...

Is it me, or are Disney now just plain lazy with DVD releases? I mean, there is nothing on here that would have taken a fair ammount of time to actually produce. Even things such as the ESPN crossover and the Virtual Wonderland Party would have taken time to produce; do a likely studio based music video and a Disney Pedia thingy most probably using stock footage seem elaborate. Nope. I'll be keeping my current Dumbo DVD. At least it has the commentary and a better cover art.

I'm just hoping that The Little Mermaid will be a 2 disc edition now. Imagine popping the case open to find one disc rich in bunly goodness (and by the way, bunly goodness is essentially stinginess).

Ugh, what a horrible downgrade this is.

It ain't a Big Top Edition, it's a Dumbed Down Edition...

I can see the advertisements now...

FINALLY, RELEASED FROM THE DISNEY VAULT...

after being in there for 2.2 seconds since we discontinued the better edition

WALT DISNEY'S CLASSIC...

yet not worthy of a better edition

DUMBO! THE BIG TOP EDITION!!

the dumbed down edition!

BONUS FEATURES AS GOOD AS A DELICATE SOUFFLE!

light and empty...

STUNNING NEW RESTORATION!

We're just kidding, it's the same thing!

AND AN ALL NEW COLLECTIBLE SLIPCOVER!!!

I weep for trees...

Honestly, if all that's truly worth double-dipping here is a restored picture, I'd seriously consider buying it, sticking it in the old case, and calling THAT a two-disc edition.

That's what I'm hoping, since Disney didn't mention HotR's commentary anywhere in its press release, but it seems unlikely that they'd do that again. I can dream, though.

Yeah...like how they seemed to "forget" the second discs for Tarzan and The Emperor's New Groove.

After hearing about what Disney is doing (or not doing) with this new Dumbo release, I ordered the 60th Anniversary Edition from an Amazon Marketplace seller. The seller was a company, and the DVD is new, but I'm not sure if Disney will get any money from the sale. If not, I won't shed any tears.

Dumbo is a classic of animation, and it does not deserve to be disrespected like Disney is doing with this new release.

Disney won't get the money from you, but they already got the money from the company whenever they ordered it from Disney.

Well, the company won't return the disc for credit or cash, so it's like I paid Disney their percentage.
