Good viewing, needed popcorn. It was my old, wonderfully reliable VHS, and I watched it very closely. It didn't get up and walk away once during the entire viewing. I've liked the movie ever since I was young and it's one of the sources I blame for my desire to understand more about women's lives and experiences that men don't get naturally. It's a powerful film and Julia's hair looks great the whole time. I think the fact that it's coming out now in a 15th Anniversary Special Edition DVD is what made me watch it again.

I saw The Sword in the Stone, which I got from Best Buy for $14.99. Am I right in thinking that this is one of Disney's lesser-known animated films? I haven't heard nearly as much about it as some of the other animated films from that same time period.

This weekend I watched That Darn Cat, The Shaggy Dog, Three Lives of Thomasina, and The Apple Dumpling Gang. I was feeling nostalgiac for good old live action Disney...as well as looking for this old trailer they used to put on all their video releases...so rented them all on VHS.
I definitely remember Shaggy Dog and Thomasina, but I'm not sure I had see That Darn Cat or The Apple Dumpling Gang before...both were good...I have to go return Apple Dumpling Gang now and maybe pick up some more...out of all of those 60's-1980 live action movies, which are everyone's favorites? I mean Mary Poppins is of course the best...but I kind of count that in a class all by itself...

I just finished my first view of Snow White since I was 8 years old!!!
I was impressed. Honestly, other than some pacing issues, this movie lives up to its name. You can tell the animation has progressed leaps and bounds, and the story is as fresh as ever. And the restoration, WOW! It looks fresh and clean, like it was made only a few years ago!

The Black Cauldron:
I'm starting to like this movie more and more everytime.
Some story issues, character development and instances where the animation looks rough.
But I do think the movie is not half as bad as people say it to be.
It still impresses at this date.

Snow White:
I always disliked this movie. I mean, of course I knew about how important it was but I never found that just because of its importance it had to be good by today's standards.
But now I learned to appreciate it for what it is.
The movie is truly lovely and the animation amazing. Extremely fluid; even most animation today is not that fluid. And since the story is so simple and the characters full of personality, it is a movie that can be seen any time just for the pleasure of it.
The things I didn't like:
1) The voice of Snow White was hard to listen at times because of the high notes; the exact same thing can be said about her songs, too loud and too high.
... I know the song part has to do with the style at the time but still. In Sleeping Beauty Aurora sings the same way but it is much more understandable.
2) Snow White movement's where unbelievable. They were great, but to make her "fairy" she didn't have to move that way. So perfect, sooooo delicate...
3) Certain scenes where badly paced:
- they should have given more time for the Queen to think on killing her and not just jumped right to her decision.
- when the hunter tries to kill SW, it should have been a longer.
- when the dwarfs dance and wash themselves where too long.
- the ending was way short. And it deserved longer . I mean, the dwars watched after SW for so many time and as soon as she wakes up she goes?

B. She took on a sort of mother role the dwarfs were missing. She helped clean, prepare food, and in return se requested certain things.
Also, many of the points you make are taken for granted because it is a simple, straight-foward fairy tale (example; her almost perfect movement, the quick ending etc). Where The Little Mermaid / Beauty / Aladdin tried to make a fresh, modern story, Walt's fairy tales told the story, plain and simple.

Most recently: Ice Princess & Snow White. Snow White with my niece who will be 4 soon. And Ice Princess with my niece who will be 6 soon.
Other than that, non disney television series dvds like Simpsons and Garfield and Friends.
Oh and I turned on National Treasure but then I got distracted and forgot to finish the end of it. Oh well, I can watch it again another day.

My mom claims she's sensetive to the smell of popcorn... I see bulls**t... Oh well, I learn to live with out it!
