singerguy04 wrote:musicradio77 Can you imagine if this release was supposed to be Hunchback or Hercules and then pulled this crap? For the sake of keeping this a family show, i'd rather not say.
Are you suggesting that Hunchback and Hercules fans are more hardcore than Dumbo's!?

It's musicradio77, it's not meant to make sense. You could start a thread called "Walt's Frozen Head Found and Thawed! He's Angry at CGI Haters!" and have it go for ten pages, then he'll chime in one day, six months from now, with a post saying "I just found this article at a website, you have to make sure we all read it. It's important stuff because it says that Walt who started the Disney company in 1928 is actually alive! Let's all hope we all will read this exciting article that I found."

Holy cow, the new restoration from the Blu-ray looks amazing. It's leaps and bounds above the VHS tape I had (which I sold a year ago in anticipation of the Blu-ray). Lots of new details (you can read every word on the newspapers). On par with Pinocchio, thats for sure. If these two movies from the 40's can look so pristine, then I'm really excited to see Fantasia.

For reference, I watched it in 1080p HD on YouTube. I did this just to satisfy me until the Blu-ray comes out (I can wait now), but for those of you who can't wait, I'd catch it while you still can as Disney really doesn't want the US to enjoy this movie.

BTW, everything is intact (the crows, the pink elephants, the RKO title/credit cards), so no worries on edits. Hopefully they'll pull through here on Fantasia.

Gah, why does the rest of the world get to experience this before us? Well, I guess it's only karma. It's usually either us (U.S. haha) or Japan (mostly true for anime and popular video games) that get the first hand on everything. Still, I want my hands on a blu ray of Dumbo. Pardon my french, but what's the effing hold up?! This only agitates my passionate hatred of corporate Disney apart from their promises on the other Platinum/Diamond titles.

Is it worth the $42 to import? I'm seriously debating buying it or not. I REALLY want it. I watched some of the transfer on YouTube and it is STUNNING! But $42 is a lot!

Do you need to see it RIGHT AWAY? Are you impatient to the point that waiting for the U.S. release is like asking you to go without oxygen for several months? Or can you wait for the release to happen?

I paid 26.42 shipped for my copy. look around on the web you can find people on high definition sites who have gotten togeather to do group buys to help offset the shipping cost. since that company charges 18 flatrate for shipping to the us(doesnt matter if its 1 or 20 copies its still 18 bucks total for shipping) and in mind thats about the same as it would cost at bestbuy after taxes if there had been a us release at this point.

My copy will be arriving to me in the next day or so. :)

It's an obsession here. Do you expect anything less?

I wonder how many buying the import will end up double dipping on a U.S. release.

No plans to rebuy, but if bestbuy does follow through on giving this a free steelbook with pre order then i will definately be picking that up.
as for the spanish language cover art, I will find someone on one of the custom cover websites who has(or will) make up a english language version or just wait till the rumored free steelbook when you pre order from bestbuy

Well then I'll sell my Spanish/Mexican import copy and use the inevitable upgrade coupon! Problem Solved! :D

Just ordered one for $26.50. As far as I know he's got one left. Should have it in about a week and a half. I wish I had more patience but I remember how long I waited for the Lilo & Stitch SE. If there is any difference in the US blu ray combo pack I'll just ebay this whenever Disney decides to release it.

I decided to wait it out. My friends and I decided to go to Disney World for a senior trip (2013, but whatever, Haha) and I decided to start saving now since it's gonna be pretty expensive...

The fact that the movie isn't my favorite, and that I keep hearing "Walt was Racist", the restoration is about as good of an effort as Snow White and Pinocchio, meaning excellent. They even fixed the disappearing/reappearing ear in the scene where Mrs. Jumbo tucks Dumbo in for bed. The audio was great too, with slight activity and musical presence in the surrounds, but nothing more. If there was any scene that didn't get changed as much as the others, it's Pink Elephants On Parade.

I haven't checked out the bonuses yet, but the menu on the BD is a 2D small town BG with animated clouds and characters, and a prominently-featured, nicely-done CGI Casey Jr. The animals in the train are also shown, and it's set to the Casey Jr. Theme, as opposed to the menus of the old dvd.

Found a review of the Mexican blu ray/combo & I am so glad I have it coming. Just wish the person who I'm buying it from got them with slipcovers. http://blu-news.com/index.php/2010/02/d ... o-version/
